STEELEVILLE - Jeffrey Michael Salger, age 41, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Jeff was born August 24, 1982, to Michael C, & Tamara S. (Fedderke) Salger. He was their pride & joy being the 4th generation Salger son. Jeff loved his job at Casey's, his co-workers, & the customers! He greeted each and every one with a smile, kind words and sometimes a hug! Jeff would be surprised to see how many people cared! Jeff attended St. Mark's Lutheran School and was confirmed in the Christian faith on March 31, 1996. He graduated from St. Mark's in 1996 and was a 2000 graduate of Steeleville High School. He attended Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration-concentration in Economics finance. Jeff also had a love for the theater and was very talented. He performed in numerous musical productions for the Sparta Community Chorus, the St. Mark's Dinner Theater and at various Theater Companies in the St. Louis area. Jeff loved to sing and share his love for music too. He performed at several weddings and was a member of St. Mark's Adult Choir. Jeffrey is survived by his parents Michael & Tamara Salger, a sister Jennifer Cole and 2 wonderful nieces Gracelynn & Lyllian Cole all of Steeleville. Aunt Darlene & husband Scott Wittenborn of Ruma, Aunt Diane & husband David Niemeyer and Aunt Sandra Fortner all of Steeleville. Jeff is also survived by several close cousins, their families and many friends and coworkers who will miss him greatly. He was proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents Carl & Grace Salger, maternal grandparents Donald & Marilyn Fedderke and Uncle Clay Fortner. Visitation is Sunday, October 8 from 5:00-8:00 pm and Monday, October 9 from 7:30-9:00 am at Wilson's Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, October 9 at 11:00 am at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Harriss officiating. A college fund account has been established at 1st National Bank of Steeleville for memorials to be for Jeffrey's nieces whom were his pride and joy, Gracelynn & Lyllian Cole or memorials can be made to donor's choice.

STEELEVILLE - Sondra "Sonnie" Fae Mahnken, 66, of Steeleville, Illinois, returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, September 1st, 2023. Sondra was born in Murphysboro, Illinois, on June 15, 1957, to A. C. and Margaret "Peggy" McLaughlin along with her twin Ron. She married Dennis Mahnken of Steeleville on August 23, 1980, and together they operated a dairy farm for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, Illinois. She loved the farm, animals and playing piano. But most of all, she loved her family. She befriended everyone she met, no matter their background, and she loved hard and fierce. Sondra is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dennis, and three children-Curtis (Amber) Mahnken of Arden Hills, MN, Christa Mahnken of Murphysboro, Ill. , and John Mahnken of Steeleville, Ill. She is also survived by her dear sister, Beverly (Roger) Connor of LaCenter, KY and three brothers, Thomas McLaughlin, Ronald McLaughlin and Gregory (Charlotte) McLaughlin all of Murphysboro, Ill, sisters-in-law Myrna (Wayne) Eldridge of Sparta, Ill, and Lois (Myron) Dudenbostel of Steeleville, Ill, and many loved nieces and nephews. She is joined in Heaven by both of her parents, and her mother and father in-law (Ernst & Oneida) and all of her cherished pets who preceded her in death. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, with Rev. Mark Harriss officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. STEELEVILLE - Dorothy F. Seemann, 87, of Perryville, MO, formerly of Steeleville, IL, passed away at 2:43 am, Friday, September 1, 2023, at Independence Care Center in Perryville, MO. Dorothy was born in Chester, Illinois, on April 22, 1936, the daughter of Martin and Dora Hartmann Rurode. She married Harold Seemann on June 8, 1957, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1996. She was retired from Gilster Mary-Lee Corp. , Steeleville. Dorothy was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville. She was an avid Quilter and also enjoyed sewing. Dorothy is survived by her children, Dinah (Roger) Kaempfe of Frohna, MO, Anita (Donnie) Zoch of Giddings, TX; 5 grandchildren, Kaity Zoch (Allen Ach), Kayanne Zoch, Robert Zoch, Carrie (Samuel) Clifton, Jared (Courtney) Kaempfe; and sister, Mildred Kingsten of Coulterville. Dorothy was preceded in death by her Parents; and three brothers, Ernest, Clarence and Edward. STEELEVILLE - James Arthur "Jay" Taylor, 87, of Steeleville, IL, died at Three Springs Lodge in Chester, IL, on June 10, 2023. Jay was born on December 21, 1935, at home in Carterville, IL, to Clyde Remmel and Pauline Cagle Taylor. He married Mary Clifton Ware on June 26, 1961, at the North Beach Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, TX. Jay was a proud Navy Veteran who served aboard the USS Frank Knox, in pacific waters from 1954-1958, during the Korean Conflict and in the reserves for four additional years. He reached the rank of Boatswain's Mate. Upon returning home to Carterville, IL with his bride, he was employed at Olin Mathieson. A manufacturer of small arms and blasting powder explosives that supplied the midwestern coal fields. He started his coal mining career at Forsythe-Carterville Coal Company and worked 37 years at Captain Mine, later known as Arch of IL. Jay's last years of mining were spent as the operator of the 5761 shovel and an oiler on the largest cross pit mining wheel in the world. Jay was an avid reader. He enjoyed camping and canoeing with his family and friends, but most of all he genuinely enjoyed playing his guitar. His music echoed through our home and will always be in our hearts. Jay loved sharing his love of music with close family and friends and was always a humble soul wanting to strengthen his musical knowledge. His prowess for storytelling will be sorely missed, he could always keep you on the edge of your seat and make you laugh. Jay is survived by a daughter, Lucile Elaine Eaton (Jeff) of Steeleville, IL; granddaughter, Alyssa Anne Stolze (Alan) and a great-grandson Adler James Stolze, all of Victorville, CA; twin brother Charles Ray Taylor of Arcanum, OH; three nieces: Susan Newnum of Pine Bluff, AR, Christine Robinson of Arcanum, OH, and Leslie Pruitt of Heber Springs, AR; sister-in-law, Marsha Elaine Brock (Paul) of DuQuoin, IL, nieces: Sara Smith (Clinton), Weston & Ellie, and Stacey Brock; nephews: David Brock (Arial), Kane and Nash, all of DuQuoin, IL; brother-in-law, Terry Frank Ware (Sherry) of Iola, TX, niece, Kathryn Ann Ware, and son, Aidyn of Colorado, uncle, Freddie Ray Strickland of Ellisville, MS, and his dachshund buddy, Starboard. Jay was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. His soul is at rest in Jesus Christ. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. STEELEVILLE - Kenneth "Kenny" Weber, 71, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, IL. Kenny was born on June 29, 1951, the son of John and Katherine (Koerber) Weber. He married Ruth Buss on February 9, 1973, in Perryville, MO. Kenny had retired from Arch of Illinois/Captain Mine, Percy, IL, and had worked at First National Bank, Steeleville, IL, in the maintenance department. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Sparta, IL, and U. M. W. A Local #1392. Kenny loved spending time with family and friends, playing Uno cards, wood working and seemed to be always tinkering with something. Kenny is survived by his wife, Ruth Weber of Steeleville, IL, his children: Sherry Weber of St. Peter's, MO, Joseph (Jessica) Weber of Columbia, MO; his grandchildren: Nickolas, Celena, Joseph Jr. , Cordelia, Amelia; and his sister, Violet Schneider of Glen Carbon, IL. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers. STEELEVILLE - Carl G. King, 66, of Steeleville, went to his heavenly home, Friday, May 19, 2023, at 10:08 am, at his home surrounded by his family. Carl was born on November 9, 1956, in Sparta, Illinois, to Clifford and Ella Mae (Snodgrass) King. Carl married Lisa Irwin King on January 31, 1981, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Sparta. She survives. Carl was a coal miner for Peabody Baldwin Underground for 16 + years. He then continued his education to earn a Technical Degree in Industrial Electricity. He worked for Gilster May Lee as a maintenance electrician until his cancer diagnosis. Carl and his wife met when he was riding his beloved Harley Davison. He continued to be passionate about the motorcycle life as a whole. Many memories were created as Carl and Lisa rode through the beautiful country God created. Carl was an active member of Grace Church Ministries in Chester, IL and also a member of the UMWA. Carl was a devoted family man who used his giftings to bless his family on a daily basis. He was a one-of-a- kind man, irreplaceable! He will be missed by his family, friends, and anyone who had the pleasure of ever knowing him. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post 480, and the Steeleville Eagles Auxiliary Aries 3960. Jim married Zelda June Tope on September 4, 1954 at the Steeleville Baptist Church, Steeleville, Illinois. Jim was a US Navy Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from World Color Press in Sparta, having worked over 40 years. Jim was a member of Steeleville Baptist Church in Steeleville; BBK American Legion Post #480, Steeleville, and the Steeleville Sportsman Club. He was an avid coon and deer hunter.
