Jeffery Hufman Obituary

"A Memorial Service for Jeffery will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Monday, October 9, 2023, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva. Kim Dunker will preside over the Memorial Service. There will be a private family inurnment at a later date at Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to York Adopt-A-Pet. Jeffery Lewis Hufman was born to parents Judith (Caskey) Hufman and James Lewis Hufman on December 12, 1970, in Council Bluffs, lowa. He passed away at CHI Health - St. Francis in Grand Island, Nebraska on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the age of 52 years, 9 months and 13 days. He was one of two children born in the family. Jeffery attended Hartley Elementry School, Lincoln High School and Lincoln North East High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. He joined the Navy after high school and was stationed in the Great Lakes. Jeffery was briefly married to Tonya Fae Stevens. Jeffery spent much of his life fighting major health problems. Starting at age 29, he spent 7 years on dialysis before receiving a kidney transplant in 2006. He also suffered from clinical depression and anxiety issues and many physical issues which plagued his short life. Through Mental Health professionals, he was able to almost conquer those issues through modern medication. The stigma of mental health is slowly lifting for people with these issues. In the future, they will never have to fight this lifelong disease if they can be diagnosed properly and cured by prescription and proper counseling. Jeffery was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2022. He had surgery and started chemo and radiation which was cut short with an internal infection of which he was unable to overcome. Jeffery succumbed to the infection on September 25, 2023 due to effects created by his kidney transplant. Jeffery was preceded in death by his sister, Carrie Michelle Hufman; grandparents, Lewis \u0026amp; Virginia (Stanton) Hufman, Marjorie (Joplin) Caskey-Liston \u0026amp; James Howard Caskey; step grandparent, Richard Liston; aunts, Marian (Hufman) Hansen and Nancy (Hufman) Filbert \u0026amp; husband Kenneth. Jeffery is survived by his daughter, Breanna Hufman Windsor \u0026amp; husband, Jon of Everett, Washington; granddaughter, Adira Fae Windsor; step-son, Dillon Stevens of Omaha, Nebraska; parents, Judith (Caskey) Hufman of Geneva, Nebraska and James Lewis Hufman of York, Nebraska; aunts and uncles, Ed \u0026amp; Colleen Caskey of Crescent, lowa, Juanita (Caskey) Bruening of Crescent, lowa, Louis Hansen of Sutherland, Nebraska, Joyce (Liston) Steppuhn of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Janelle Liston of Missouri Valley, Iowa; along with many cousins.
