Mr. Jeffery L. Bakner, 66, of Mont Alto, PA, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 in WellSpan York Hospital from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident. Services will be held at 11:00 A. M. , Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro with Mr. Terry Ulrich officiating. Burial will follow in Quincy Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Tuesday morning, in the funeral home. A full obituary will be posted later.

Mr. Donald L. Garling, 93, of Mont Alto, PA passed away Friday, May 26, 2023, in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 28, 1929 in Zullinger, PA, he was the son of the late Senator L. and Sara E. (Jacobs) Garling. He and his wife, the late Dixie Elizabeth (Small) Garling, were married on December 10, 1949, in Winchester, VA. Mrs. Garling died on May 26, 2009. Mr. Garling worked as a heavy equipment operator for various companies in the local area and retired from Fort Ritchie, Cascade, MD. He was a member of the Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Department for over 75 years and the Mont Alto United Methodist Church. Mr. Garling enjoyed hunting, tinkering in his garage, mowing his grass, helping with the Mont Alto Firemen's Carnivals, and Sunday family get togethers. He is survived by three children, Donna C. Henderson (Rick) of Mont Alto, Micah S. Garling (Lauri) of Waynesboro and Mark E. Garling (Tina) of Mont Alto; eight grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gary Garling of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa M. Henicle; one grandson, Jordan Garling; one great-grandchild, Madison Garling; and his siblings, Ronald Garling, Larie Garling, Virginia Byers, Joanne Willison and Peggy Gingrich. Services will be held at 2:00 P. M. , Wednesday, June 21, 2023, in the Mont Alto United Methodist Church, 10 S. Main St. , Mont Alto, PA with Rev. Kraig Faust officiating. Mrs. Beverly E. (Fahrney) Wile, 85, of Waynesboro, PA and formerly of Mont Alto, PA, passed away Tuesday morning, May 9, 2023, in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 28, 1938 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Floyd F. and Margaret (Bryan) Fahrney. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro and Mont Alto areas. Mrs. Wile graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1956. She and her husband, the late Edward I. "Eddie" Wile, were married on August 24, 1957. Mr. Wile died on July 31, 2002. Mrs. Wile worked as an insurance agent at several local agencies in the local area. She was a lifelong member of Delta Y Gradle. She was also a member of the former Otterbein United Methodist Church - currently Mont Alto United Methodist Church and the Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. While at Otterbein, she sang in the church choir for many years. Mrs. Wile loved all music, especially country, gospel and bluegrass. She and her husband enjoyed boating on the Potomac River and at Deep Creek Lake for over 40 years. Mrs. Wile loved all animals, especially her cat, Toby. She also enjoyed flowers, crafts, ceramics, painting, visiting with her classmates and music friends and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Steven E. Wile (Teresa) of Waynesboro and Thomas E. Wile (Toni) of Mont Alto; three grandchildren, Kerry Snyder, Tyler Wile and Derrick Wile; three great-grandchildren, Brooks Snyder, Max Snyder and Jett Wile; one expectant grandchild on the way; and her cousin, Carolyn Kiddy of Littleton, CO. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two aunts, Doris Jones and Shirley Eck. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P. M. , Friday, May 12, 2023, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. , Waynesboro with Rev. Dr. Carol Kipe officiating. Burial will be private in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy, PA. Wayne Fitzgerald Broome, 42, of Mont Alto PA, passed away on March 3rd, 2023. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic accident leading to his sudden death. Wayne was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Dolores and Walter Fitzgerald, paternal grandparents Naomi & Carroll Broome & beloved Aunt Cheryl Fitzgerald. Wayne was born on September 10th, 1980, in Hagerstown Md. The first and only child born to Alicia Marie Fitzgerald & Harry "Kevin" Broome. Wayne was a happy child who loved all things fun and making people laugh but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, which included but not limited to, Mamaw & Pap (Dolores & Walter Fitzgerald), his Aunts Cindy Rowe, Donna Fitzgerald, & Cheryl Fitzgerald. His Uncle Randy (Husband of Cindy) who taught him to wrestle in his teenage years & his favorite Uncle Wally whom he shares the love of The Indianapolis Colts football team. Wayne also loved music even teaching himself how to play guitar. Wayne later in life became a big brother to first Brandon Trumpower and then later to Breanna Nuckols whom he loved very much. He shared a special and unique bond with each of them. In his adult years Wayne became a father to 5 beautiful children that he loved dearly. Wayne was survived by his Mother Lisa, sister Breanna, oldest son Tyler, brother Brandon, many other family members and childhood friends. Mrs. Helen T. (Ruppert) Miller, 92, a resident of Paramount Senior Living, Fayetteville, PA and formerly of Mont Alto, PA passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023, in the nursing home. Born August 19, 1930 in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late W. Frank and Edith (Good) Ruppert. She was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1948. She and her husband, the late Lawrence W. "Larry" Miller, were married October 28, 1950 in Waynesboro, PA. They lived most of their married life on Reynolds Ave. , Mont Alto. Mr. Miller passed away June 29, 2004. After high school, Mrs. Miller began her career as a secretary at Landis Machine Company, Waynesboro. She then went on to work at the Pennhurst State School and Hospital and Samuel G. Dixon State Hospital, now known as the South Mountain Restoration Center. She ended her career as a secretary at Penn State University Mont Alto Campus, retiring in January 1991. Music was always a large part of Mrs. Miller's life. She sang and directed the Mont Alto United Methodist Church Choir for almost 50 years, she directed the AARP Chorus, Southern Aires, Waynesboro for 14 years and sang with the Sweet Adelines for 20 years. She is survived by three children, Carole A. Shetler (Denny) of Waynesboro; Eric C. Miller (Marsha) of Mont Alto; and Scott A. Miller (Gracia) of Waynesboro; 7 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Ruppert of Center Valley, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin "Bud" Ruppert and two sisters, Anna Beam and M. Margaret Bercaw. Services will be held at 11:00 A. Mrs. Anne Noelle (Kline) Smith, 73, of Mont Alto, PA passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, October 27, 2022, in her home. Born December 14, 1948 in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Fred Leroy and Anna Mae (Ridenhour) Kline. Mrs. Smith graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1966. She and her husband, the late John Emmert Smith, were married on April 30, 1967 in Mont Alto. Mr. Smith died on January 21, 2002. Mrs. Smith worked at McCrory's, Quincy United Methodist Home, Fayetteville Antique Mall and she was last employed at Savage Family Pharmacy, Waynesboro. She was a member of the former Otterbein United Methodist Church, Mont Alto and enjoyed traveling, needle work, quilting, flowing gardening, and music, including playing the piano. Her greatest joy was being able to spend time with her family, friends and her dogs. She is survived by three children, Aaron John Smith of Quincy, PA, David William Smith of Mont Alto and Amanda (Smith) Breon of Arnold, MD; five grandchildren, Jenna, Luke, Hunter, Ava and Flora; one great-granddaughter, Noelle; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Poe; and three brothers, Ronald Kline, Gerald Kline and Larry Kline. Mr. Donald L. Eberly, 78, of Fayetteville, PA and formerly of Mont Alto, PA passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 5, 2022, in his home. Born June 14, 1944 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Crawford C. and Margaret E. (Keefer) Eberly. Don graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1962. He later attended Penn State Mont Alto Campus. He and his wife of over 57 years, W. Kay (Cluck) Eberly, were married in January 1965. They lived in Mont Alto from 1965 until 2016. Don worked at Mack Truck, Hagerstown, MD from 1962 until 1999. Following his retirement, he worked at Abraxas in South Mountain, PA for 5 years. He was a member of Acacia Lodge #586, Waynesboro, Harrisburg Consistory, South Mountain Fish and Game, Bucktail Rod and Gun Club, Marine Corp League, Chambersburg, Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, Waynesboro, Waynesboro Fish and Game and The Redmen Club, Williamsport, MD. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Mont Alto Cemetery. Don enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, trips to Tennessee and Myrtle Beach and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by two children, Todd A. Eberly (Emily) of Chambersburg and Kristen D. Swope (Dennis) of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Jenna Perry (Justin) of Chambersburg, Tyler Swope (Michal) of Mont Alto, Cory Eberly (Jess Clark) of Brooksville, FL, Sean Eberly of Chambersburg and Jade Swope (fiance - Steven Ridenour) of Waynesboro; six great-grandchildren, Emma Swope, Noah Swope, Layla Thorsen, Luke Swope, Paisley Perry and Layken Ridenour; one step-great-granddaughter, Kylee Perry; his sister, Donna Bonebrake of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews. Denise Ann Harr, 58, of Mont Alto, PA, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. Born August 15, 1964 in Greensburg, PA, she was the daughter of Patricia A. (Nichols) Barnett of Mont Alto and the late Gary D. Harr. Denise was born with cerebral palsy. She really enjoyed school and her therapies, horror movies, watching river dancing and Dancing with the Stars. Music was her most calming. In addition to her mother, she is survived by sister, Terri L. Cook; brother, Robert F. Harr; two nieces, Shannon and Cortney Cook; great-niece, Kaylee Cook and great-nephews, Kameron Ashwell, Malakai McNair and Benjamin Keck; and aunts uncles and cousins. Denise was preceded in death by her step-father, Terry W. Barnett; and grandparents, William H. and Rosella Nichols of Mont Alto.
