"Jeanne Elizabeth Menzie Johnson of Chestertown, MD, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023, in Easton, MD, after a long battle with dementia. She was 79. Jeanne M. Johnson was born February 16, 1944, in Dubois, PA, to the late William D. Menzie and Ethel Fawcett Menzie. She attended Chatham College from 1962-1964 and received her Bachelor of Arts in History from Dickinson College in 1966. She earned her Master of Library Science in 1969 and her Doctor of Philosophy in Administration in 1978 from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Pennsylvania/National Association of Secondary School Principals and Elementary School Principals, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and a member of Phi Delta Kappa where she was the Three River Chapter Past President. Locally in Maryland, she was Past President of the Chestertown Garden Club, a Master Gardener, a member of PEO Chapter AL, and a participant in the Kent County School District Teacher Mentorship Program. Jeanne dedicated her life to education serving students and communities in a multitude of capacities from teacher to administrator in western Pennsylvania for more than forty years. She started her career as a Social Studies teacher at Forest Hills Junior High School in the Churchill Area School District. She completed her career in the Quaker Valley School District as a principal of Quaker Valley High School, a Curriculum Coordinator, and the principal of Osborne Elementary School. Jeanne was a strong advocate for her family, students, teachers, and the causes she cared about. She could regularly be found in her garden tending to her flowers or visiting with her sons and grandchildren of whom she was so proud. Jeanne loved traveling down the street and around the world with her husband Bob. She loved life and cherished every minute spent with both friends and family. Jeanne is survived by her husband, Robert L. Johnson of Chestertown, MD; two sons, Todd Johnson and his wife Jennifer Bianco of Alexandria, VA, and Andrew Johnson and his partner Kathryn Rosecrans of Dili, Timor-Leste; beloved grandchildren, Liam and Amelie Johnson of Alexandria, VA; and her siblings, W. David Menzie II and his wife Carolyn of Chestertown, MD, and Anne Wright of Blacksburg, VA. Jeanne is also survived by nieces and nephews, Marcia Parks of Blacksburg, VA, Jacob Johnson of Jeannette, PA, William Menzie III of Amman, Jordan, Allison Kruckow of Blacksburg, VA, Elizabeth Crotty of Brambleton, VA, and James Johnson of Monongahela, PA. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 14 at Fellows, Helfenbein \u0026amp; Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd in Chestertown starting at 10 a. m. with a visitation, followed by the celebration and a light luncheon. A reception in celebration of Jeanne will also be held in Pittsburgh, PA, at The Chadwick, 10545 Perry Highway, Wexford, PA, on Wednesday, October 18 from 4-6 p. m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Garden Club of Chestertown, P. O. Box 415, Chestertown, MD 21620; to the PEO Chapter AL, P. O. Box 458, Centreville, MD 21617; or to the Alzheimer\u0027s Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, 909 Progress Circle, Salisbury, MD 21804. "
