Margaret Charlotte Brown 87, of Palmyra VA, went home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2023. She was born October 27, 1936 to the late Emma V. Bradley and Robert Jackson, she was preceded in death by her husband Jake R. Brown Sr. ,one brother Nelson Jackson and nephew Craig Payne. Margaret lived a life filled with love, laughter, and culinary delights. Her passion for cooking was unparalleled, and her kitchen was the heart of the home. Friends and family alike were drawn to the delicious aromas that wafted from her kitchen, a testament to her culinary prowess. From holiday feasts to everyday meals, she infused every dish with not just flavors but also warmth and love. However, her greatest joy was found in her family. Margaret was a devoted mother, showering her children with unconditional love and support. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye, and she took immense pleasure in watching them grow, imparting wisdom, and creating lasting memories with them. A true testament to enduring love, Margaret shared 62 beautiful years of marriage with the love of her life, Roger. Their journey together was a source of inspiration to all who knew them, a story written in the language of devotion, commitment, and shared dreams. Beyond her roles as a wife and mother, Margaret embraced life with a passion for cards and dancing. Whether she was leading the dance floor or gathering around a card table, her infectious spirit and enthusiasm created countless moments of joy and laughter. A dedicated member of Evergreen Baptist Church, Margaret served with devotion and grace. As a missionary, she spread love and compassion to those in need. Her role as an usher and deaconess exemplified her commitment to the church community, where her kindness and welcoming spirit touched the lives of many. Margaret will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she spread to everyone she encountered. Her legacy lives on in the cherished recipes she leaves behind, the warmth of her embrace, and the enduring love that she cultivated within her family. She is survived by six devoted children Regina Christmas (Charles) Palmyra Va, Darlene Elliott (Charles) Rocky Mount Nc, Evette Lewis (Lonnie) Palmyra Va, Chiquita Ragland (Felton) Louisa Va, Jake Brown Jr. (Renee) Palmyra Va, and Margo Bruce (Darry) Palmyra, Va. 15 devoted grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, two sisters Nora Young, Keswick Va and Deborah Payne, Palmyra Va. Three sister in laws Thelma Jackson, Gloria Vest Palmyra Va, and Barbara Henson (William) Crozier Va, two brother in laws Robert Brown Palmyra Va. and Virgil Allen Powhatan Va. , two godchildren Elaine Brown and George Payne Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews. Thomas Carroll Baber Jr. , 69, of Palmyra, Va, died on October 20, 2023, at home with his family. Born December 17, 1953, in Albemarle, Va, he was the son of Thomas Carroll Baber Sr. and Ethel Louise Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Ethel and sister Hallie L. Frazier. He graduated from Albemarle High School and worked at Isotemp Research and various other manufacturing facilities in and around Charlottesville as a machinist. He enjoyed square dancing and spending time with his family. He was dearly loved and is deeply missed by his wife and children. Thomas is survived by his wife April M. Baber of Palmyra; his children, Wanda M. Lynch and her husband Adam of Palmyra, Va, Thomas A. Baber of Spokane, Washington, Ethel M. Wiersma and her husband Codi of Barboursville, Va, Theresa G. Baber of Palmyra and Lynwood N. Davis and his wife Kristi of Palmyra, Va; one grandchild, Morey T. Wiersma; three brothers, Douglas A. Baber of Louisa, Va, Leslie R. Baber and his wife Helen of Outer Banks, NC, Richard B. Baber and his wife Carol of Albemarle, Va; four sisters; Diane L. Lamb of Charlottesville, Va, Bonnie S. Frazier and her husband Nelson of Earlysville, Va, Cathy G. Davis and her partner George Graves of Charlottesville, Va, and Theresa L. Baber and her husband William Jackson of Barboursville, Va; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and special friend, Alfreda "Sis" Melvin. The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Sawyer, Dr. Micheal Devitt, and his caretakers Lisa, Sam, and Kristen of Legacy Hospice. The family will receive friends on Thursday October 26, 2023, from 5 - 7 p. m. at Hill and Wood Funeral home in Charlottesville. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Friday October 27, 2023, at Salem United Methodist Church in Palmyra, Va. with Stephen Mathis officiating. In lieu of flowers, Thomas and his family ask that memorial contributions be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank or Meals on Wheels.Show more
