Tarif Ata Hall was born on February 23, 1984 to the late Vincent Hall and Catherine Hamilton in Newark New Jersey. Tarif graduated from Irvington High School in Irvington, New Jersey class of 2002. He then enlisted in the United States Navy as an Aviation Administrator. He served in the Iraq war during Operation Iraqi Freedom with Operational Navy Personnel. During his military service in the Navy Tarif received many different metals and accolades. He continued his career at the Veteran’s Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant until his untimely death. Tarif is predeceased by his parents Vincent Hall, Catherine Hamilton, and grandparents Raymond P. Hall III, Mae Hall, William Hamilton, and Virginia Hamilton. Katie L. Curry was born on September 13, 1922, in Bluefield, West Virginia, to the late Joe Nathan Williamson and Katie London Harris. After graduating from school, where she excelled in sports, particularly basketball and track, Katie made her way to New Jersey to join her eldest brother, William Williamson. There, she played an instrumental role in nurturing and raising his growing family in the Atlantic City area.In the early 1950s, Katie relocated to Passaic, New Jersey. On August 7, 1954, she entered into matrimony with the love of her life, Leroy Curry. Together, they became affectionately known as Uncle Leroy and Aunt Katie. Professionally, Katie dedicated her career to the Presto lock Company of Clifton, New Jersey, where she served as their first black female shop steward, representing her fellow union workers with pride and distinction.Katie had a passion for Christian music, serving as a lead soprano for the Eastern Core Gil Travel Choir for many years. She also lent her melodious voice to church choirs and frequently graced church services and events for friends and relatives with soul-stirring solos.A longstanding member of New Hope Baptist Church, Katie and Leroy cherished the fellowship they found there in their younger years. Even as their mobility declined, they continued to host gatherings at their home in East Orange, fostering bonds of community and love.On February 22, 2024, Katie L. Curry departed this earthly realm, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by a multitude of friends, neighbors, nephews, nieces, cousins, and godchildren. Katie was a maternal figure and the generational glue that bound her family together. Emma M. (Sims) Lee of Orange, NJ, went home to her heavenly father on Thursday February 22, 2024, at the age of 68. She was born in Lincolnton, GA on November 25, 1955, to Myrtis (Hogan) Sims and the late Leonard Sims, Sr.Emma had lived in Passaic, NJ, prior to moving to Orange in the 1980s. She was a dedicated manager, better known as “The Boss”, at Semels Embroidery in Clifton, NJ, for 50 years. Growing up Emma was both artistic and athletic. She was a very talented artist. Emma loved to draw, paint and create clay sculptures. She was a pitcher for the softball and fastball teams in high school. She enjoyed playing basketball too. Emma was gifted with many talents, and the one she excelled at was cooking. Referred to as “Top Chef” by family, cooking for her loved ones was a passion of hers. She truly enjoyed feeding people. One of her most famous and most loved dishes was lasagna. Emma was also a fashionista; she was known as the “diva with shades”. She had great style and an impressive shoe collection. Not only was she particular about her clothes, but her car of choice were Cadillacs. Emma of all her traits was best known to be generous. Gift giving was one of her love languages. She always gave from the heart expecting nothing in return.Emma was the beloved wife for over 40 years to James W. Lee, Sr., devoted mother of James W. Lee, Jr. and Ondrea A. Lee, cherished grandmother of Aries A. Lee; loving daughter of Myrtis (Hogan) Sims and the late Leonard Sims, Sr., and dear sister of Leonard Sims, Jr., Diane Sims, Sylvia Sims and Ammie Sims, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.Visitation will be held at the Levandoski-Grillo Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 44 Bay Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ, (additional parking is available on Broughton Avenue) on Saturday morning March 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. by Bishop Jethro C.
