Jeanenne Pettis of Rockvale, formerly of Smithville. age 87, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023 at Community Care of Rutherford County. She was born January 3, 1936 to her parents, the late Henry Edward and Gertrude Goff Wallsmith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby E. Pettis, Sr. ; brother Sonny Wallsmith, and sister, Margaret Bodie. Ms. Pettis was a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro and was a Homemaker. She is survived by 2 sons, Bobby ( Melissa) Pettis, Jr. of Murfreesboro, and Tony (Misty) Pettis of Sparta; grandchildren, Jeanette Richey, Jaclyn (Bryan) Saunders, Eric (Alexis) Pettis, Marissa Pettis, Jeremiah Ward, Hannah Ward, and Gracie (Josh) Turner; great-grandchildren, Kevin Saunders, Lydia Saunders, Eric Dean Pettis; sister-in-law, Karen Wallsmith; nephews, Charles Bodie and Alan Prine; nieces, Michelle Hatten and Tammy (James) Davis; great niece, MacKinley Davis. Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Barry Miller and Bro. Trey Carey officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday September 13, 2023 at 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Brown Croom Yeager, born Barbara Brown on November 20, 1937, peacefully passed away on November 18, 2023, in Smithville, Tennessee. She was surrounded by her loved ones in her final moments. Barbara, known for her warm heart and kind spirit, will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Barbara is survived by her loving son, John Croom Jr. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John H. Croom and second husband, Bobby Yeager, parents, Willee and Opal McNatt Brown. Barbara received her primary education in Alamo and later pursued higher education at Union University. She valued the importance of education and encouraged others to seek knowledge throughout their lives. In her free time, Barbara found solace and community at Sugar Creek Church, where she worshipped with her fellow congregants. Her faith was a source of strength and comfort to her, and she found great joy in sharing her spiritual journey with others. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at a later date, to be announced after the holidays. It will be a time for family and friends to come together, remembering the beautiful moments shared with Barbara and honoring her legacy. Shirley "Nanny" Martin age 82 went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, November 24, 2023 at home. She was born August 18, 1941 to her parents, the late Arzie Logan and Ollie Lucille Pinegar Green. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband who has greeted her with a big hug, Tavous "Boppa" Martin; 2 children, Tamyra Taylor and Dennis Braun; 2 sisters, Helen Wright and Yvonne Green. Nanny was a member of the Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church, she and Boppa served and worshipped at several different churches throughout the years. She has cared for so many people in DeKalb County, cooking, cleaning and loving on them as a caregiver for years. In her free time, she had a passion and could have been called the "Yard Sale Queen. " She leaves so many memories with her daughter, Susan (Chuck) Gulick of McMinnville; grandchildren, Shana (Will) Key of Smithville, LaTroya (Phil) Key of Monterey, Sydney (Kevin) Alambatin of McMinnville, Tracey (Stacey) Rollings and Jessica (Travis) Gregg both of Indiana; great-grandchildren, Tavia, Liam, Aeriel, Greyson, Kyleigh, Holden, Leilani, Kainoa, Hailee, Warren, Jaycee, Joslyn, Ryder, Ty and Liza; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Braun of Indiana; sister, JoAnn Sparkman of Smithville; special great niece, Kate (Zach) Arnold; several nieces, nephews, special loved ones and friends. Brenda Pelham Davis, a resident of Cookeville, TN, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the age of 67. The youngest of four siblings, she was known for her organizational skills and attention to detail. In the kitchen her specialties were homemade carrot cake and "noodles and gravy" - a German recipe she learned from her mother. Ms. Davis was a homemaker who loved the snow and wintertime, collecting books and jewelry, and was a huge fan of herbal remedies. She was a lifelong learner and obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Liberty University in 2013. Preceding her in death were her parents Fred Wiley & Ruth Anneliese (Augustin) Pelham of Smithville, brother Fred Robert Pelham of Murfreesboro, son Michael Pelham of Smithville, grandson Brannon Rochefort of Manistique, MI, nephew Glen Waggoner of Cookeville, and nephew Jonathan Lewis of Smithville, and her beloved dog and companion Rosie. Ms. Davis is survived by her son and his wife Jeremy & Jacki Davis, daughter Amber Orlando (Pelham), 3 grandchildren Jacob Davis, Jaidyn Davis, Brady Rochefort, 3 great-grandchildren Cadence Rochefort, Quinn Rochefort, and Abel Rochefort, and 2 sisters Margaret Waggoner and Helen Lowry - in addition to several nieces and nephews. Rev. Royce Jackson Moore age 92, of Smithville, was born May 23, 1931 to his parents, the late Rev. Thomas Walker and Lillie Mae Waggoner Moore, and went to his Heavenly reward on Saturday afternoon, November 4, 2023. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ruby Jewel Moore and Reba Page; 3 brothers, Earnest Moore, Rev. David Moore and Thomas Walker Moore, Jr. He was a longtime member of the New West Point Freewill Baptist Church where he served as Pastor 45 years. He had the Way of Life radio ministry for 28 years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruby Trobaugh Moore of Smithville; 3 children, Eddie (Anita) Moore, Ellen (Jeff) Herrin and Dwight (Angie) Moore all of Smithville; 6 grandchildren, Adam (Bethany) Moore, Andrew (Rachel) Moore, Mitchell (Amanda) Herrin, Carrie (Caleb) Baines, Jacob (Megan) Moore, Caleb (Emily) Moore; 10 great-grandchildren, Ariana Herrin, Maggie, Millie, Franklin, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Rubie Moore, Carson and Charlotte Moore, Ira Baines and baby boy Walker Moore due in February; 1 brother, Rev. In Loving Memory of Judy Carolyn Wiggins Judy Carolyn Wiggins, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a lifetime DeKalb community member, passed away on November 4th, 2023 at the age of 79. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love that will be cherished forever. Judy's life was marked by a deep commitment to all those around her. She served as a respiratory therapist for thirty years at McFarland Hospital and University Medical Center, providing critical care and comfort to countless patients. Following her retirement, she continued her service by dedicating several years to the special needs community within DeKalb County schools. Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray, and her eldest son, Kenny. She is survived by her son, Aubrey, daughter, Tonya, and step-daughter, Rose. In addition, she leaves behind a legacy of love and care in her grandchildren, Chrissy, Kayla, Cody, Turner, and Alex, as well as ten great-grandchildren. Donna Jean (Blades) Napier, age 84, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on October 31, 2023, at her residence. She was born December 11, 1938, in West Frankfort, Illinois, to her parents, the late Robert Willis Blades and Tressie Sybil (Burlison) Blades. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thurman Napier; devoted son, Thomas Napier; and three precious grandchildren, Stacey Bain Powell, Dusty Bain, and Amy Napier Miller; four sisters, Jean Mishler, Wilma Balser, Edith Shadwell, and Elaine Jenkins; one brother William Blades and several nieces and nephews. Her infectious smile and witty sense of humor were loved by all who knew her. She was famous throughout the county for her mouthwatering pies and homemade chicken and dumplings. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a lifelong love of books, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She was a retired insurance agent, a Christian, and a member of the Smithville Business and Professional Women's Club, as well as a volunteer for many DeKalb County organizations. She is survived by four loving children, Carol (A. J. ) Bain of Smithville, Jane (Rickey) Mathis of Liberty, Greg (Deborah) Napier of Smithville, and Nancy (Dimitrios) Vafeas of Sarasota, Florida; six grandchildren, Jennifer Reeves, Brandi McDonald, Mathew Napier, Samantha Herron, Alexander Vafeas, and Olivia Vafeas; 14 great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Friday, November 3, 2023, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Billie Friel and Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Phillip Gerry Sanker, 72 of Smithville, Tennessee passed from this life on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Phillip was born Tuesday, November 7, 1950, in Mobile, Alabama, and he was the son of the late Clayton Sanker and the late Imogene (Pierce) Sanker. Phil worked for the railroad as a conductor and also painted for the Painters Union. Phil loved all of his family immensely and was a very jovial and charismatic soul. He enjoyed Tennessee Football and fishing. Phil never met a stranger and had a giving heart.
