Jean was born on July 29, 1961, in Sparta, IL, the daughter of James Edward and Lottie Mae (Volkmer) Pierce. She married David E. Whittaker on October 27, 2001, in Belleville, IL. Jean was a Registered Nurse. Jean is survived by her husband David Whittaker of Belleville, IL, her mother, Lottie Mae Pierce of Sparta, IL, her siblings: Jan (Keefe) Huddleston of Sparta, IL, Jill (Jeff) LeTempt of Alabama, and Jamie (Dale) Hartmann of Chester, IL. Jea is preceded in death by her father, James E. Peirce. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL. Burial to follow at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta, IL. Friends may call from 9:00 am till the time of service. In loving memory of Anne, a vibrant soul whose adventurous spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her. Anne shared a profound connection with Gus, their love evident in the life they shared and the countless journeys they embarked upon together. Her zest for life and passion for travel created a tapestry of cherished memories that will forever be woven into the fabric of our hearts. Though she has departed, Anne's love and the echoes of their adventures will linger as a testament to a remarkable bond. Anne's life was not only marked by her love for travel but also by a dedicated career in nursing. Born in 1933, she pursued her passion for healthcare and graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing, New Orleans, 1954; Bachelor cum laude, McKendree College, 1974; Master of Education, Southern Illinois U. , 1990. Anne's commitment to the well-being of others was evident throughout her career, where she tirelessly served in various capacities. After completing her nursing education, Anne embraced the responsibility of public & private nursing. Her compassionate care touched the lives of those she tended to, leaving a lasting impact on patients and their families. Anne's nurturing spirit extended beyond the walls of hospitals and private homes as she transitioned to the role of a School Nurse. In her position as a School Nurse in the Mascoutah school district since 1971, Anne became a pillar of support for the students under her care. Her kindness, expertise, and genuine concern for the health and welfare of the young minds entrusted to her care made her an invaluable member of the school community. In 1994 Anne received a well-deserved award of Illinois School Nurse of the Year as well as the national School Nurse of the year in 1995. Anne's dedication to her profession mirrored the same passion she brought to her relationship with Gus. As we bid farewell to Anne, let us remember not only the adventurous spirit that defined her personal life but also the caring touch that characterized her professional journey. , 59, of Belleville, IL, born Wednesday, June 10, 1964, in East St. Louis, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab Center LLC in Hardin, IL. David was a shining example of how to overcome adversity, at a very young age he was put to that test, a fighter, overcoming a life threatening injury that only he and his mother had the true faith and fight to overcome. He fought for his life and overcame the biggest obstacle one could face and went on to live a full life. A life that included struggles all along the way but once again he fought and won again and again. He will be missed in more ways than one can imagine. As a believer he was looking forward to reuniting with the person that prayed and fought hardest for him his entire life, his mother, Virginia. God has welcomed him with open arms and David has finally overcome his last obstacle, rejoicing and dancing with his mother both in perfect harmony with our Lord and Savior. Bruce worked as a policeman, fireman, and switchman for B&O Railroad for 22+ years. He was a member of I. B. A. A. , Moose Lodge in Swansea, IL, Order of the Arrow, earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and was the former owner and operator of Touchette's Liquor and Confectionary. He was a track and field athlete for East St. Louis high school, winning the conference championship in 1949 and 1950. There were many things he loved in life, but fishing was his passion. He fished countless Pro-Bass Anglers tournaments for 46 years. His garage was a testament to his craft, inundated with lures, reels, and trinkets so he could always have the right tool for the job. David Norman Bowman, 79, of Belleville, IL, born November 24, 1943 in Olney, IL, passed away at home on Sunday, November 19, 2023. David graduated from East St. Louis High School and briefly attended BAC. He married the love of his life, Barbara Bell, on August 20, 1966 at St. Theresa's in Belleville and together they had two children, Brian and Debbie. David was passionate about classic cars, he enjoyed fishing in Valmeyer, taking Caribbean cruises with his wife, playing slots, and spending time at the Swansea Moose Lodge. David was extremely sociable and never met a stranger. He started his career in electrical, but later became an over-the-road trucker which he did for nearly 40 years and impressively was part of the million mile club, twice! Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara (nee Bell) Bowman; children, Brian (Gretchen) Bowman and Debbie Bowman; grandson, Blake Bowman; sister, Elaine Robinson; niece, Leslie Curry; aunt, Patricia "Pat" Maschhoff; sisters-in-law, Carol (Don) Brown and Dorothy (Lane) Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norton J. Bowman and Lois L. (nee Molt) Bowman; brother, Dwayne Robinson; and parents-in-law, Lawrence and Geraldine Bell.
