Jean Mengers, 90, of Waco, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023 as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident that occurred August 13, 2023. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4:00 p. m. until 6:00 p. m. Friday, September 8, 2023 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco, Texas. Norma Jean Hopkins was born in Ouachita County, Arkansas, March 2, 1933. Her parents were Charles Hopkin Sr. and Mattie Hopkins. She used Jean as her name all of her adult life. After high school graduation, she and her husband Bill Andrews moved to Washington, D. C. and worked for Arkansas Representative Oren Harris. Eventually she and her daughter Shelley moved back to Camden, Arkansas, where she worked at a rocket factory nearby. She relocated to Texarkana and began a 30-year career with the Texas Employment Commission. Many relocations followed until she moved to Austin. Texas in the early 1970's. She lived in Austin until 2004, when she relocated to Woodway, Texas. She was known as "MaMa Jean" to her many surrogate daughters. Jean enjoyed music, dancing, and decorating. She was noted for her elegant appearance, and the equal elegance of her home, and her property, she had a green thumb and was successful with her many and varied outdoor plants. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Hopkins Sr. and her mother Mattie; her brothers, William, Jesse, and Charles Hopkins, Jr. ; and her sisters, Lois and Gladys. Survivors include her daughter, Shelley Carter of Austin, her granddaughter Lindsay Carter Frith, and husband, Joel Frith of Hayes, Kansas; her great-grandson, Owen Thomas Frith, born on August 13, 2023; her grandson, Grant Carter, also of Austin; Eloise Ross, her niece, and Burt Carter of Kyle; Jean is also survived by close friends Diana and Ron Prewitt of Bastrop, Faith and Bobby Perkins of Asheville, North Carolina, and Karen and Bill Stone of Austin, as well as many others in Arkansas, Woodway, and Austin; She is also survived by her special friend and dance partner Dwayne King of Woodway. Barbara LaDean Hawkins-Woodruff February 25th, 1941 - December 3rd, 2023 Barbara passed away peacefully Sunday, December 3rd, 2023. Graveside services will be 2pm Sunday, December 10th, 2023 at Moore Cemetery in Chalk Bluff, TX. Barbara was the only daughter of six children born to J. B and Vanita Hawkins, in Waco, TX. A graduate of LaVega High School and continued her education at MCC where she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse and went to work for many years at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. She was a proud descendant of a Republic of Texas Family and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her joy in life was baking, entering baked goods in the county fair many times; with an adventurous soul she was one of the first people to take a ride on the Concord. All of the family are thankful for the loving care she gave her husband in the last year of his life in their home, never leaving his side. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; Loving husband of 48 years Jud E. Woodruff Sr. , Son Jud E. Woodruff Jr. , Daughter Audrey Abel; Brothers J. B Hawkins, Dr. Brian Hawkins, Benny Hawkins and Boyd Hawkins. She is survived by daughters Patricia Rutherford and husband Tommy and Gloria Woodruff; Grandchildren Carrie, Amanda, Tommy Jr. , Angie, Matthew and Jud III; six great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Fanchon Schwartz Florsheim was born on April 24, 1924, and passed away peacefully Saturday, December 2, 2023, at her home. Fanchon will be buried beside her beloved husband Simon in the Rodef Sholom Cemetery at 1:00 p. m. , Thursday, December 7, 2023, a memorial service will be held after the interment and will begin at 2:00 p. m. , in the Chapel at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, in Waco, Texas. A celebration of Life will follow the services at Ridgewood Country Club. Fan was born in Hillsboro, Texas to George and Sadie Schwartz. She spent much of her childhood in Malone, Texas before moving to Waco at age 12. She graduated from Waco High School and went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Sigma Delta Tau. Shortly after graduating, she met her husband, Simon Florsheim. They were married soon after and spent 56 wonderful years together. They lived happily in Waco where they raised their two loving sons, Joel, and Yogi. Happy times were spent on family vacations, and later, summers in Ja Jolla, California. Fan served as PTA president for four years and was an active member at Temple Rodef Sholom. She was an active volunteer for many years with Meals on Wheels, the March of Dimes, and the United Way. Her most cherished role in life was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She never met a stranger. She loved spending time with her friends young and old at Ridgewood Country Club. Whether she was playing bridge or having dinner with her "Thursday night group", she was always on the go. She also loved to play the part of hostess. No dinner party was too big or small. She was always happiest when entertaining others. Nothing gave Fan as much joy as raising her two sons. She was the proudest of moms. Even in her later years, she loved to hold court at her son Yogi's restaurant, telling everyone, "I'm the mother!" After raising two sons, Fan was thrilled when she was blessed with four granddaughters. This was when she became known as Sugar. Her granddaughters cherish their summers, holidays, and special memories they share with her. Sugar was lucky enough to know her six great-grandchildren. She was an active part of their lives. She loved keeping up with their interests and achievements. She instilled in them what unconditional love means, as she did for the rest of her whole family. Her family will always remember Sugar as wise, witty, caring, and having a heart of gold. Fan is survived by her son Joel, and his wife Ricki, of Waco, son Yogi, and his wife Leslie, of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Robyn Reagan, and husband Fran, Haley Byrne, and husband Sean, Stacy Ettinger, and husband Scott, and Erin McIntosh, and husband Ryan, all of Dallas; and her great-grandchildren, Colin and Harper McIntosh, Jack and Ben Ettinger, and Conley and Carson Byrne. Margaret "Maggie" McGee passed away on November 27, 2023, after her second battle with cancer. A graveside burial service will be at 1:00 p. m. , Friday, December 8, at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas. There will be a Memorial Service the following day at 11:00 a. m. , Saturday, December 9th, at St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd, Houston, Texas 77019,Maggie was born in Houston, Texas on June 3rd, 1993, to Robert Allen Ferguson and Sarah Lee Price Ferguson. Maggie was baptized at St. John the Divine and was active in the Children's Choir and served as an acolyte in her teenage years. She grew up in Katy, Texas, where she defeated cancer as a child in 1997-98. She spent her summers in Hunt, Texas at Camp Mystic, making many memories and lifelong friends. Maggie attended Cinco Ranch High School in Katy where she served as Vice President on the student council, competed for the women's varsity golf team and played the double bass in the orchestra. In orchestra she met her high school sweetheart, Colin Douglas McGee, a fellow bassist. After years of friendship, they began dating on Christmas Eve of their high school senior year. Both Maggie and Colin attended Texas A&M University in College Station, where Maggie broadened her passion for the culinary arts, receiving her B. S. in Food Science and Technology. During her time there, she served as Pi Beta Phi Sorority's PR chairwoman and started Magpie's Sweets and Treats, offering stylish and scrumptious custom baked goods. This blossomed into a thriving business she ran for the rest of her life, bringing joy to many. After Maggie's and Colin's graduation in 2015 they moved to Houston, Texas, where she worked as a Sales Representative for Martin Preferred Foods. Maggie married Colin, the love of her life, on January 2nd, 2016, at St. John the Divine. They started a new chapter in 2018 when Colin was accepted to medical school in San Antonio. Maggie took her passion to the next level, attending the Culinary Institute of America, where she received her degree in Baking and Pastry Arts and interned in Boston with America's Test Kitchen. Upon her graduation from culinary school Maggie began working as a Food Scientist at Lone Star Bakery. Throughout their four years in San Antonio, Maggie and Colin explored the city's culinary scene and enjoyed many bonfires and crawfish boils with friends. Maggie and Colin moved to Dallas for Colin's general surgery residency and became first time homeowners in May 2022. They spent the next nine months working on their house, building their careers, and loving each other along with their two dogs, Ellie and Rudder, before moving back to Houston for treatment. Maggie lived life to its fullest in the time that she had. She dedicated herself to her passions and took joy in providing a delicious cake or meal to friends, family, or strangers. She truly cared about other people and thought of others more than herself, even in her very last days. She is an inspiration to us all: to love when we hurt, to exhibit strength when we are weak, to be a light for others in dark times. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jack and Leona Price, and Al and Nancy Ferguson. She is survived by her loving husband of seven years, Colin McGee of Katy, Texas; parents, Rob and Sarah Lee Ferguson of Katy, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Price and Yelida Ferguson of Manchester, New Hampshire; in-law's, David and Wendy McGee of Missoula, Montana; and brother-in-law Tyler McGee of Raleigh, North Carolina. Kathleen Ann Hinton, age 66, of Robinson passed away peacefully early on Saturday morning, December 2, 2023, after a long struggle with congestive heart failure, at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest in Waco, Texas. A rosary and funeral mass will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, December 9th at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in Waco with Fr. Fernando Saenz officiating. A private burial will follow at a later date. Kathy was born in Staunton, Illinois on June 1, 1957, to Virginia (Brennan) and Robert Edward Cole. She attended schools in Waco after the family moved there in December 1961. She graduated from University High School and on June 9, 1977, she married Wallace Hinton in Waco. The marriage was blessed with two beautiful children, Steven and Stephanie. Kathy worked as church secretary at St. Mary's Church in Waco, where her children attended school, and as a secretary at the Texas Collection at Baylor University for many years. Kathy volunteered with several worthy organizations in Waco, including as a church youth minister with Waco Family Abuse Center and as a board member of the Texas History Fair competition. She loved learning and graduated from Baylor University in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts. Kathy was an avid reader of many types of literature and collected children's literature. Kathy's door was always open to family, friends, and future friends, and her table welcomed many for a hot meal and hospitality. Her heart was big enough for us all, even though she didn't mince words when you needed to hear some truth. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Joanne and Wallace Edward Hinton, Sr. ; a nephew, Mark Kraemer; and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Wally; son, Steven Hinton; daughter, Stephanie Hinton; sister, Marilyn Kraemer and husband, Gene; sister, Susan Cole and husband, Tim; brother, Robert (Rob) Cole; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nephews, along with many "adopted" children. June Geraldine (Tyler) Schroeder, 95, passed away December 1, 2023 in Waco, Texas. Visitation will be 5 - 7 pm, Thursday, December 7th at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. , Waco, TX. Funeral services will be 1 pm, Friday, December 8th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1301 Hogan Lane, Waco, Texas, where she was a charter member. Brian Hesse will be officiating. A private burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. June was born to Mollie Kate (Landingham) Tyler and James Vea Tyler in Gholson, Texas where she grew up on a farm with two brothers and four sisters. Following graduation from Waco High School, she went to work for Amicable Life Insurance Company in the bookkeeping department. At night, she went to Durham Business College. In 1961, she and Bob started Schroeder Building Systems constructing many commercial buildings in Waco. She married Robert Schroeder, Jr. in 1952 and together they had three children, Timothy Warren, Marcia Kay, and Gerald Alan. When Bob passed away in 1992, she retired and traveled most of the US and Europe. June loved sports, especially tennis, which she started playing in her 60s. Watching the Baylor Lady Bears basketball team was her passion, and she was a member of the Tip Off Club. Making friends easily was among her many wonderful qualities. She was always smiling, a good listener and confidante. Many of her friends called her "June Bug". June was preceded in death by her daughter, Marcia Kay Chisholm and infant daughter, Kerrie Renee Chisholm; husband, Robert Schroeder, Jr. ; and son, Gerald Alan Schroeder. She is survived by a son, Timothy Warren Schroeder and wife, Kathy; granddaughters, Kimberly Anne Schroeder and Christina Diane Schroeder; brother-in-law, Wesley Schroeder and wife, Darlene; and many nieces and nephews. Frances Davila Bravo passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at the age of 80. The visitation will be from 6-8pm on Wednesday, December 6 th at OakCrest Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be at 10am on Thursday, December 7 th at Oakwood Cemetery. Frances was born in Waco, TX to R. H. Flores and Jesse Ramos on September 27, 1943. She later gained her stepfather Arthur Ramos. She married Joe Bravo, Jr. in 1983. Joe was a loving and devoted husband to Frances who always displayed the true definition both in sickness and in health. She graduated from Texas A&M and went into teaching for over 40 years. Frances was a very hardworking and selfless person who cared about everyone she met. She loved flowers, cooking & baking, sewing, dancing, and gardening. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Frances served as an educator and as a cosmetology instructor at McLennan Community College where she touched many lives. She was small, but she was fierce. Serving others was always a huge part of her heart and you could guarantee you would gain a few pounds after leaving her house. She loved giving back to others and wanted the best for everyone. Her life was a living testimony, she showed us how to persevere through life's struggles and walk by faith. Frances enjoyed spending time with her loving husband Joe who she adored tremendously and would always say, "He is such a good man". After 40 years of marriage, their love was a true inspiration of living out their vows to each other. Seeing them together, there was no greater love. They spent many of their days enjoying "the country" on their land, listening to music, cooking, laughing, and dancing together in the kitchen. The impact she had as a mother was second to none. From music, automotive and swimming lessons, to every sport, she made sure they had countless opportunities growing up. She devoted her life to being a present mother and making a beautiful life for her boys. Her love for them overflowed into their kids where she spent her later years being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved taking them out to the country, teaching them to sew quilts and blankets, and being their biggest fan at sporting events. Sleepovers at Grandma and Papa Joe's were spent making big red floats, eating fresh popcorn, watching movies, and lots of laughs and crafts. Frances was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Fedierico and Helen Martinez; paternal grandparents, Jose and Sara Flores; parents, R. H. Flores and Jesse Ramos; stepfather, Arthur Ramos. She is survived by her loving husband, Joe Bravo, Jr. ; son, Joe Henry Davila, Jr. and wife, Phyllis; son, Roland Davila and wife, Elizabeth; granddaughter, Ashley Quinn and husband, James and their son Cooper and daughter Kimber; granddaughter, Allison Zaidle and husband, Matthew and their son Mason; grandson, Michael Davila and fiance, Makenzie Garrett and children Harper, Mavery, and Jettson; grandsons, Rolando Davila, Jr. , Rece Davila, and Rhett Davila; granddaughter, Kendall Davila; brother, Arthur Ramos Jr. and wife, Alice; brother, Frank Ramos and wife, Isabel; brother, Manuel Ramos and wife, Leslie; brother, Gilbert Ramos and wife, Vickie; sister, Gilda Tafolla and husband, Omar; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and godchildren-all whom she loved greatly.
