Skokie, IL
Jean Eileen Kutten Kane (Mom, Grandma Kane and GG), born January 28, 1927, was called home in the early morning hours of September 7th 2023. She was an unbelievable matriarch of a wonderful family. She leaves behind a legacy of ten children, thirty-four grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren. The additions to her family will continue into the future and hopefully all will aspire to her great faith, love, commitment and understanding for others. Born in Wilmette the third of three women to Frank and Charlotte Kutten. She lived in Wilmette from birth until college, when she ventured to New York for her only year living outside of Illinois. She came back to finish her college studies locally at Barat College with a degree in Psychology. Soon after finishing college, she met Jerry Kane a young but ambitious trader at the Chicago Board of Trade. Jean and Jerry were married in a double wedding at St. Francis Church in Wilmette with a reception held at North Shore Country Club with her sister and brother in law Charlotte and Dick Nash. Jean and Jerry then moved to a coach house in Wilmette down the street from her parents' home at 1101 Chestnut Street. After having three children in four years, it was time to find some additional space and the move to 209 Wagner Road in Northfield occurred, where she remained until her last breath. Seven more children blessed Jean and Jerry and all were loved equally. Many family gatherings and memories occurred at "209" including four wedding receptions, summer holiday softball games and countless other family events. Jean was a woman of unequaled faith and dedication to God and community. Her faith is what drove her and allowed her ability to raise wonderful children with patience, love and occasional but needed discipline. The family she leaves behind will always be a reflection of her. In addition to her dedication to family, her service to the community included delivering Meals on Wheels and the Eucharist to those in need. In fact, many of those in need were her age or younger. She also was a regular "baby whisperer" to children born with chemical dependencies passed on from their parents. She always said that she wanted to leave this world "feet first" from her family home that she built and created with the help of her husband and family, and her prayer was answered.
