Jean M. Anderson, age 63 of Carlyle, passed away at her home on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Jean was born in Breese, Illinois on December 29, 1959, a daughter of Gregory and Bertha (nee Blumenstein) Bach. She owned and operated the Centralia School of Cosmetology and worked as a cosmetologist for over 40 years. She most recently took care of her clients' beauty and hair needs while working at Creative Clips in Carlyle. Jean cherished the time spent with her family, and she was always spoiling her grandchildren with love, laughter, and joy. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals. Jean was a devoted member of St. Mary's Church in Carlyle. Jean is survived by her children - Valerie Anderson (Nick Stockard), Bryan Anderson (Sarah), and Taylor Wuebbels (Mark); her grandchildren - Caroline, Hudson, and Miles Stockard, Lucas and Collin Anderson, and Jack Wuebbels; her sisters - Beverley Krieger (Bill), Sharon Peppenhorst (Larry), and Janet Compare (Fabio); her nieces and nephews - Stephanie Jansen (Pat), Stacie Deien (Louis), Tim Krieger, Jason Krieger (Melanie), Kayla Pickett (Chris), Kory Peppenhorst (Kelsey), Kurt Peppenhorst (Reena) and Jared Compare; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents - Gregory and Bertha Bach, and a nephew - Anthony Compare. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle, on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 10:00 A. M. , with Fr. George Mauck, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Thursday, September 14, 2023, from 4:00 - 8:00 P. M. and on Friday morning from 8:00 - 9:30 A. M. William A. "Bill" Beckemeyer, age 80 of Carlyle, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Mr. Beckemeyer was born in Breese on October 31, 1943, a son of the late Arthur C. and Lois (Scott) Beckemeyer. Bill graduated from Carlyle High School in 1961, and later from Kaskaskia College. He furthered his education by attending USPS training schools and seminars. Mr. Beckemeyer married Kathleen "Kathy" Loeffler in Belleville on October 7, 1978, and she survives in Carlyle. Bill loved being with his family: his wife, Kathy Beckemeyer of Carlyle; his children - Jeanne Beckemeyer of Centralia, Melissa "Missy" Berry (Mark) of O'Fallon, IL, Matthew "Matt" Beckemeyer of Carlyle, and Daniel "Dan" Beckemeyer (Jessica) of Belleville; his grandchildren - Kayla Burcham (Brad), Kendra Pratl (David), Marshall Beckemeyer, Emerson Beckemeyer, and Sullivan Beckemeyer; his great-grandchildren - Willow Mersinger, Wyatt Mersinger, Brooklyn Burcham, and Raelyn Burcham; his brothers-in-law - Henry Loeffler and Ronald Loeffler (Janet); a niece - Karen Neff (Randy); and a nephew - Craig Jesenick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lois Beckemeyer; father-in-law and mother-in-law - Henry and Marie Loeffler; his sisters - Joyce Ripple and Mildred Beckemeyer; and his in-laws - JoAnn and Taylor Sims, Ruth Loeffler, and Portia Boehnke. Bill lived a full life centered around his family and service to his community. He worked at the Carlyle Post Office from 1961 until his retirement in 2007. He served as city carrier, window clerk, supervisor, and officer in charge. Bill received many awards for his service to the USPS and was a member of USPS NALC Branch 155. He also worked several jobs in the private sector. Mr. Beckemeyer was a constant at Carlyle High School activities through the years. He was the official scorekeeper for Carlyle Indian Varsity and JV basketball games since 1985. He also operated the scoreboard for CHS football games. Bill loved youth sports and had previously coached many teams throughout the years. He had coached Carlyle high school summer league, CYO, and Pee Wee basketball teams. His involvement in youth sports led to his membership in the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, Southern Illinois Coaches Association, and the Carlyle High School Athletic Booster Club. Mr. Beckemeyer was awarded the CHS Indian Pride award in 2001, the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Friend of Basketball Award in 2005, and the Illinois Athletic Directors Association Friend of Athletics Award in 2015. Bill also served on the Carlyle Unit District 1 School Board, Carlyle PTO, and Carlyle High School Music Parents. Bill loved to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was an active member of Green Mount Road H. O. G. , formerly known as the Stone Celts. He served as historian for the chapter and would write a motorcycle related story for the group every month. Bill was the AMA Amateur Motorcycle Hillclimb Champion in 1974 and retained membership in the AMA Professional Hillclimbers Association. He was also a member of the American Motorcyclist Association and rode with the Patriot Guard Riders. Mr. Beckemeyer loved his hometown, and he enjoyed talking about Carlyle history and the old times with his friends. His commitment was evident through his involvement in the community. In addition to the schools, Bill was a former member and president of the Carlyle Library Board and currently served as the City of Carlyle Zoning Board chairman. He served on various committees and boards at the First United Methodist Church, where he was a member. He enjoyed volunteering for the Matthew 25 Food Pantry. Bill was an assistant Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 281 and enjoyed volunteering for the Lewis and Clark Council BSA/Friends of Scouting. He was also a former member of the Carlyle Jaycees and Carlyle Optimist Club. When he wasn't serving his community, Bill enjoyed reading and writing short stories and poems, and talking with online friends from various groups to which he belongs. A funeral service will be held at the Carlyle First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Rena Whitcher, officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery. "Louise Matilda Silger, age 95, of Kensal, ND, formerly of Huey and Centralia, Illinois, passed away on November 12, 2023, under the care of Hospice while residing at Edgewood Care Center in Jamestown, ND. Louise was born in Clement Township in Clinton County Illinois on February 28, 1928. She was the daughter of Gustav Silger and Theresia (Scheppel) Silger. She received her education in Clinton County and graduated from Carlyle High School in 1945. Upon graduation, Louise moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where she was employed by the US Government at Camp Carson. She returned to Illinois in 1946 when she began working at Scott Field Air Base in Belleville, Illinois until her retirement in 1983. Louise enjoyed her career in accounting and the many friendships she made with co-workers who kept in touch with each other long after retirement. Louise also stayed in touch with many of her classmates from the Class of '45 throughout the years. Louise chose to serve God at an early age in life and was faithful to this commitment all her days. Louise is survived by her nieces Jeanette (Carl) Mitchell, Springfield, IL, Carolyn (Don) Manley, Lincoln, IL, Nancy (Myron) Vigesaa, Kensal, ND, and Linda (Rick Swanson), Malcom, IA, along with several great- and great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special cousin, Marilyn (Lawrence) Rueter, rural Carlyle. Louise was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Silger. She will be remembered for her care and love for family and her many friends, along with her ability to write letters and never forget a birthday. "Gerald T. Harris, our beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, died peacefully at Aviston Countryside Manor on October 11, 2023 at the young age of 95. He was born in Herkimer, New York on March 25, 1928, the son of Myron and Ruth, nee Sterling, Harris. Gerald married Louise Arnold at Andrews Air Force Base Chapel on October 3, 1953 and she preceded him in death on November 1, 2012 and is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. His oldest daughter, Vickie is buried with her mother and Gerald will be buried in the adjacent plot. Gerald is survived by his daughters, Debbie Stewart and husband Steve of Clinton, MO, and Cathy Zollner and husband Mark of Hecker, IL; grandchildren, Jeanna, Jacob, Jared, Jeramiah, Sarah, and Stephanie and her husband, Cory Mueller; and great-grandchildren, Brayleigh Louise, Jaelyn Marie, and Jackson David. Gerald retired from the U. S. Air Force as a GS-15 Supervisory Electronic Engineer. He served Nov. 1953 to Jan. 1986; three years in the military and then 30 year in civil service with the Air Force Communications Command and its predecessors. In 1950 he graduated from the Union College in Schenectady, NY with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. While assigned to the U. S. Air Force 1823rd AACS Group from Nov. 1953 to Feb. 1959, Mr. Harris as an engineer and technical manager, played a key role in the design, engineering and installation of the USAF's first global communications system. During this timeframe, he accomplished high frequency propagation analysis and antenna design. He engineered the Transmitter Out-side Plant Facility at Sidi Slimane, French Morocco, and supervised its installation and test \u0026amp; acceptance. He was the Air Force lead project engineer on the Spain - Morocco - United Kingdom Tropospheric Scatter System which was the forerunner of the European Trans-Mediterranean Tropo System, and contained the first frequency modulated link in excess of 500 miles. He designed the Air Force's first interlaced rhombic antenna for use on a Forward Propagation Ionospheric Scatter path, and supervised its installation and performance testing. He also evaluated and recommended for Air Force use a frequency stepping system which for the first time allowed critical Air Force FPIS circuits to function reliably without the disastrous effects of back-scatter. He also negotiated support from the National Bureau of Standards as the recognized experts in scatter transmission theory and by his leadership brought about the transformation from theory to practical application. Mr. Harris was extremely active in various standards programs and was directly responsible for the preparation of numerous Air Force and Department of Defense (DOD) standards. He recognized the commonality between the Engineering and Installation (EI) Activities of the three Military Services (Air Force, Army, and Navy) and proceeded to establish a Tri-Service EI Standards Steering Group. He wrote its initial Charter and subsequently the Army and Navy adopted the AF Standards in total. In addition to government service, Mr. Harris was active in professional, charitable, and church activities. He served as Chairman of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) Communications Society Chapters in both the Utica-Rome, NY area and the Kansas City, MO area, and later as Chairman of the Kansas City IEEE Section. He was President of the Hickman Mills School for Retarded Children Parent Teachers Organization and was instrumental in negotiating with Missouri State Department of Education and Legislative officials for a new school. He was an aviation enthusiast and with a private pilot's license, flew Cessna and Piper aircraft. Most importantly of all, Jerry, as he liked to be called, was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather; dedicated to his family, and willing to give a helping hand to any of us who needed it. He was a quiet man, but sweet and friendly to all those he met. Family was important to him, and we had always done different activities together as a family growing up. Jerry and his wife, Louise's first child, Vickie, had down syndrome, and they both dedicated their lives to making sure she had been well taken care of, and they had done a fantastic job. "Kimberley Sue Leser Dietzel, 65, passed away quietly and peacefully surrounded by a room full of her family on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born November 21, 1957 in Belleville, the daughter of Patricia Sheppard (Dzengolewski) of Carlyle, and George Leser of Pennsylvania. She married Terry Dean Dietzel on January 30, 1981 and he precedes her in passing. She was affectionately known as \u0026quot;Kim\u0026quot;, \u0026quot;Kimmy\u0026quot;, \u0026quot;Kimmy Sue\u0026quot;, \u0026quot;Kim #1\u0026quot;. . . and most notably as \u0026quot;Mom\u0026quot;, \u0026quot;Mommo\u0026quot;, and \u0026quot;Grandma\u0026quot;. As a lover of all animals, she consistently welcomed all beauties of life into her home to care for. There are too many animals to name, but her beloved puppies, Esther and Angel, were her deepest companions. They precede her in passing. Her daughter will remember her as an amazing cook, and a woman that, in the zone, could knit a very comfortable blanket in one day. She owned an enormous collection of books, and loved playing video games. She once played Doctor Mario through a tornado. She also made the BEST chocolate chip cookies and crazy cake you will EVER taste! She enjoyed couponing, budgeting, home-making, hosting family gatherings, feeding her family and others her delicious home-cooked meals, and sharing her handmade gifts. She loved her family and friends deeply, and purely every second of every day. She was an amazing vocalist, she enjoyed playing the piano, and turned down many offers to join local bands to focus on raising her children. She loved the sport of bowling. After marrying Terry, she asked him join a couples bowling league. They both enjoyed the sport so greatly that they purchased V\u0026amp;H Recreation in Breese on September 1st, 1999, and remained the owners until 2006. She retired from Help at Home in 2022 as a caregiver. She was a beloved member of the Kingdom Hall in Carlyle, where she met many wonderful people that surrounded her with love, affection and acceptance. She devoted her life to Jehovah, and the teachings of Bible. She is loved and missed deeply by all of her family and friends. She leaves behind a son, Jesse Dietzel of Carlyle, and her granddaughter, Addrienne Dietzel (Alicia Forrest), of Breese. Her daughter, January Loddeke (Curt) of Germantown, along with her four granddaughters, Alexandra Flores (Jairo) of El Paso, TX, Hayli Rinne (Gabe Hill) of Breese, Emily Rinne (Makayla Dean) of New Baden, and Page Loddeke of Germantown. She also leaves behind her grandson, William-Anthony Loddeke, of Germantown. She absolutely adored her two younger brothers, Bradly Jargon (Sherry) of Roxana, and Michael Jargon (Kathy) of Carlyle, and enjoyed \u0026quot;rocking out\u0026quot; with them both. She is preceded in her final rest by her mother, father, her late husband, and her step-father, David Jargon. Stephen E. Stefl passed away peacefully at his home in Carlyle, Illinois, on November 3, 2023. Born on December 16, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri, Steve was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Steve was the son of the late Edward and Pauline (McManamy) Stefl. He was a loving husband to Diana (Ryan White) Stefl and a devoted father to his children: Kristie (Ray) Grieve of Highland, IL, Matt Stefl of Granite City, IL, Chris (Taylor) White of Carlyle, IL, Amanda (Jeremy) Grant of East Alton, IL, Sarah (Jay) Anderson of Wood River, IL, and Stephanie (Jesse) Rhodes of Chesterfield, IL. Steve was a proud grandfather to numerous grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and he was eagerly anticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Becky Wintjen of Oklahoma City, OK. He was predeceased by his brother, David Stefl. Steve graduated from Granite City High School in 1969. He spent 35 years as a truck driver, and later shared his knowledge and experience by teaching CDL training. In his later years, he drove a school bus. Steve was a life member of Madison Amvets Post #204 and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles - Granite City Aerie #1126. Steve had a zest for life that was evident in his many interests. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished forever. An avid sportsman, Steve enjoyed playing golf and softball, and was a regular at the local bowling alley. He was a dedicated fan of NASCAR and never missed a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game. Steve's friendly and outgoing nature meant he never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, making friends wherever he went. Arlene Lopez, 93, passed peacefully to meet her beloved dance partner, Ralph Lopez on Thursday, October 26th. Arlene has lived happily the last two years at Brightly Senior Living in Glen Carbon, Illinois to be closer to her immediate family. She was an active participant in all the great activities as well as a loved member of their community. Prior to that she lived her whole life in Carlyle on her family farm where she and Ralph raised three kids. She is survived by all three. Mitch and Bob Meyers of Glen Carbon, Craig Lopez of Florissant and Mike and Connie Lopez of Godfrey. She also has three grandchildren, Zack and Abbey Meyers and Jordan Lopez. She had 1 great-grandson, James Lopez. Arlene remained close to her sister, Dorsey Guenzburger of Carlyle and dear friends Edna Woltering and Melinda Hutchinson. Arlene was a member of the United Church of Christ. She and Ralph were world travelers and had friends all over the country. She was a "wicked bridge player" and loved to golf, sew and knit. She was also an outstanding cook and loved entertaining friends and family. She was world-famous for her breads and pies, especially her garlic bread and yeast rolls. Carolyn J. Isaak, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023, in Carlyle, Illinois. Born on December 5, 1941, in Breese, Illinois, Carolyn lived a life full of love, laughter, and warmth, touching the lives of all who knew her. Carolyn was a woman of many passions. She was a dedicated member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, where she found peace and community. Her love for shopping was well-known among her friends and family, often resulting in delightful finds that she would generously share. She cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as basking in the sun and watching her favorite shows, always surrounded by her beloved dogs. But above all, Carolyn's greatest joy was spending time with her family, creating memories that they will forever hold dear. Carolyn was a loving mother to her children, Kimmie Marlow, and Chad Isaak (Jennifer), all of Carlyle. She was a doting grandmother to Hannah Vance (Kirby), Paige Isaak (Allen Spaur), Maddie Hartung (Hunter), and Molly Isaak (Travis Michael), all of Carlyle. Her love extended to her great-grandchildren - Crew Vance, Ivy Vance, Bristol Isaak, Isaak Loepker, Willow Hartung, Poppy Hartung, River Michael, and Ruby Michael. She was a cherished sister to Mary Zachary (Duane) of Carlyle and a beloved aunt to her two nephews, Brad Zachary (Mary) and Brett Zachary (Mary), as well as several great-nieces and nephews. Cheryllynn Kay Wheaton, also known as Kay, peacefully passed away on October 15, 2023, at the age of 70 in St. Louis, MO. She was born on October 26, 1952, in Marion, IL, to the late Dean and Jean Clark. Kay was a loving wife to Alonzo Wheaton and a devoted mother to her daughters, Carrie Cain, Ila Sampson, and Vanessa Wehking. She was also a cherished mother-in-law to Dusty Sampson and Jeff Wehking. Kay adored her grandchildren, Liam (Ila) and Lilly, Dean, and Jonah (Vanessa). Kay is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Clark. In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her brothers, Darryl, John, and Robert, as well as her dear friend, Pam Marshall. Kay was known for her kind and generous nature. She had a great sense of humor and brought joy to those around her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, including her dear friend Ruth Ann Mashburn and dear cousin Becky Catino. Kay dedicated her career as a Paraprofessional at Carlyle Community Unit School District, where she made a positive impact on the lives of many students. Her commitment to education was unwavering, and she will be remembered for her dedication and passion. "Linda Sue Lanter, 67, was born January 8, 1956. She was a one-of-a-kind person who was goal-driven, determined to succeed, full of tenacity, had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a good story. Linda had a strong desire to constantly learn something new regardless of any obstacles. She spent a great deal of her life with a visual impairment, but that did not prevent her from earning an Associate Degree from Kaskaskia College as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Greenville University. In both programs she achieved high honors. Linda enjoyed long walks around Beckemeyer with her grandson Ryan, gardening with her husband every year, photography (providing her family with many lasting memories), cooking (especially her mother's spaghetti recipe), sewing, creatively decorating for every single holiday, going on road trips \u0026amp; shopping trips with her sister, rescuing puppies, sharing Cardinal game highlights with her brother, and researching her family genealogy with her aunt. Linda had an incredibly creative soul. She loved sitting in her rocking chair with her husband on their beautiful wrap-around front porch. She loved binge watching Grey's Anatomy episodes alongside Lexi and Angelina on many of their days and nights together. Linda was especially fulfilled by her years devoted to S. A. V. E. (St. Clair Associated Vocational Enterprises) as a program director. S. A. V. E. provides many services to the intellectually disabled. This role was one of her greatest passions, spending many hours outside of work coordinating very creative fundraising activities directly benefitting the S. A. V. E. community. Barrett, Sr. (father), Dorothy Barrett (stepmother), Roy Scherby (uncle), Susan Scherby Casey (aunt), Cynthia Hazelwood (sister), Glenn Phelps (brother-in-law), Maria Barrett (sister-in law), Jimmie Hazelwood (nephew), and Jim Rainey (nephew). Linda is survived by her loving brothers and sisters including John Barrett (Carlyle), Mary Phelps (Belleville), Howard (Lisa) Barrett (Farmersville), Bobbi Sue (Wesely) Hopper (Memphis, TN), Jay (Lisa) Barrett (O'Fallon), Rick Barrett (Howell, MI), and Laura (Gerardo) Gamez (San Antonio, TX). Linda leaves behind her extended Lanter family of 30 years. She always looked forward to celebrating the Lanter family holidays. Her Lanter family includes Marjory (Jim) Danehy (St. Johns, FL), Denice (Kevin) Brumitt (Wood River), Darla Hetzel (Highland), Brian (Kathy) Lanter (Carlyle), Jodie Lanter (Carlyle) and their several children. She is also survived by her beloved grandson, Ryan Lanter, and her great-grandson Hudson Lanter. ''Huddy'' was such a light and joy for her; she lovingly referred to him as her ''little cutie. '' Linda is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Dawn (Christopher) Shaw, Christine (John) Hazelwood- Hein; Ryan (Jordan) Rainey; Joshua (Rose) Hopper; Jenie (Andrew) Mowery; Jennifer (Adam) Terrell; Eric (Meghan) Manta; Kimberly Ingram (Chaz); Johnna Barrett (Gavyn); Kara (AJ) Harmon; Jamie, Tyler and Jacob Barrett; Richard, Harrison, Hayden, Liberty, Donovan Barrett; Marissa Gamez, Zachary (Cathleen) Gamez; Carson; Coryn and Brooke Hazelwood; Christopher, Alexis, and Angelina Shaw. Linda Sue was forever grateful for her faith family at Messiah Lutheran Church. Miss Anna Rowden and Pastor Tim Scharr both made sure Linda was repeatedly lifted with prayers. Visitation will be held Friday August 11, 2023, from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle, Illinois. Services will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Saturday August 12, 2023, at Nordike Funeral Home with graveside services immediately following at Beckemeyer Cemetery.
