Jared Godbey Obituary

A memorial service for Jared Michael Godbey will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at Cooper Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Bonham, boyhood friend, Rev. Cody Nelson, will officiate. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Jared Michael Godbey, age 46, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, May 5, 2023 at home in Edhube. Jared was born April 25, 1977, to David Paul Godbey and Paula Bee Hawkins Godbey. At a young age, Jared had an adventurous spirit. As a boy he was involved in Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout Rank in 1993. Jared had the opportunity to attend the National Jamboree and Philmont. These were trips he still spoke of often. Jared was also involved in FFA and 4H. His pride was his horse Shorty. Together they earned many awards in the show ring. Jared spent most of his youth exploring the woods of Southern Fannin County riding Shorty. The adventurous spirit carried on as he rode dirt bikes, trapped, and hunted. Jared attended Bonham High School and graduated in 1995. After high school Jared joined the workforce and worked in the construction industry. In 2001 Jared became a father, their family resided in Denison for many years before his job took them on the road. His first-born child Ethan brought so much joy to his life. The two of them enjoyed having projects together in their backyard. In 2003 Malorie came along and he took so much pride in having a daughter. They both enjoyed their father/daughter shopping trips and shrimp lunches. They took several big family vacations during his children's teen years, which included traveling to Yellowstone and The Smokey Mountains. His two kids were his greatest pride and joy. He worked as a Millwright throughout the country making lifelong friendships along the way. He was well known for his hospitality and generosity. There was always something on his smoker or grill to share with his co-workers whom he counted as friends and family. He is survived by his son, Ethan Godbey of Bonham; Daughter, Malorie Godbey of Bonham; the mother of his children, Alison Craig of Bonham; Parents, David and Paula Godbey of Edhube; Brother, Bret Godbey, and his wife Heather of Millsap; Sister, Morgan Helm, and her husband Travis of Denison; Nieces and Nephews, Kimzey, Kyler and Keagan Godbey, and Benton, Connor and Molly Helm; in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends who loved him immensely.
