Janie Sue Chambless, 73, of Kingsland, TX, passed away on May 4, 2023, after a battle with pneumonia. Janie was born on December 29, 1949, to Mary Sessions and Benjamin Sessions in Okmulgee, OK. After Janie graduated from Lovington High School in 1968, she went on to further her education at New Mexico Junior College. True to her giving nature, Janie joined the Hobbs Police department in the early 1970's as a dispatcher, helping callers in distress and directing critical resources to people in need. While the job was fulfilling, she quickly realized she wanted to do more. In 1976, amidst doubt among the all male police force, Janie became the first female patrol officer in Hobbs history, setting a standard and a path for future women in law enforcement. In 1977, Janie met Marty Chambless in Hobbs, NM. Janie and Marty married in 1978, which began a life of adventure. Outgoing and never afraid to try new things some of their passions included snow skiing, touring the country on Marty's motorcycle, vacationing, camping in their travel trailer, active participation with the Masonic Lodge and Shriners, and hosting friends and family at their house. With the strong leadership skills and work ethic Janie learned being a police officer, she began a life of business ownership and management starting with Janie's Intimate Apparel which was one of the first stores to open in the Broadmoor Mall in Hobbs, NM and went on to expand to Midland, TX , Cable Service Company in Hobbs, NM where she co-managed along with husband Marty, and finally C. Lindy Jackson Sales and Service in Marble Falls, TX which is still owned and operated by Marty today. Janie was preceded in death by her father Benjamin Session, and mother Mary White. She is survived by her husband Marty Chambless of Kingsland, TX, daughter Stacie Lindsey of Tulsa, OK (husband Don and their two children Liv and Jaden), son Donnie Chambless of Frisco, TX (wife Terri and their two children Chance and Cameron), sister Judy Long of Hobbs, NM (her two children Jessica and Andrea), sister Diann Lawson of Hobbs, NM (her two children Danny and Kim), and numerous other beloved family members. In honoring Janie's wishes, she was cremated at Harrell Funeral Home in Kingsland, TX. A private memorial celebrating Janie will be held at a later date in Kingsland, TX where her ashes will be spread in Lake LBJ, one of her favorite spots to reflect and relax. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, an organization Janie and husband Marty felt strongly about.
