She was also preceded in death by her son, Chester Dean Biggs, two brothers William Godsey, and Curtis Godsey, a sister Barbara Kendan, her father, William Godsey and her mother, Ada Godsey. Survivors include one daughter, Donna Shoemake, one sister, Glenda Bledsoe, and three grandsons, T.J. Biggs, Lee Biggs, and Monty Biggs, several nieces, and nephews.

MCALLEN - Albert F. Gonzalez, 78, entered eternal rest on Monday, January 29, 2024 in Weatherford, Texas surrounded by his family and friends who loved him very much. Mr. Gonzalez lived in Weatherford for four years after relocating from his long-time home in Canoga Park, CA. Mr. Gonzalez is preceded in death by his parents, Ezequiel F. Gonzalez and Consuelo Garcia Gonzalez; his grandparents, Federico Gonzalez and Liberata Gonzalez; his wife, Evelyn June Gonzalez; two step-children, Stephen Sanchez and Tina Sanchez; brother in law, Rodrigo Santa Ana; sister, Elva Boyd.Mr. Gonzalez was born in McAllen, Tx where he graduated from McAllen High School in 1963 and moved to California where he attended Santa Monica College. Albert worked as a supervisor at the Radiology Department at UCLA hospital for numerous years. Following that, he worked as a construction foreman on various movie sets in the Los Angeles area and further pursued his interests with personal projects in construction and real estate in California and Texas.Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his daughters, Kelly Marie Gonzalez and Sally Lindop; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 6 siblings, Cecilia Santa Ana, Sylvia (Billy) Garza, Robert (Marta Centeno) Gonzalez, Irma (Arturo) Cantu, Lydia (David) Arizmendi and Cynthia Gonzalez; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.Mr. Gonzalez was known for his zest for life, friendly nature, compassion for others by his family, friends, colleagues, and associates.Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2024, at Legacy Chapels, 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Mary Nell Hughitt Dater, 81, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024. 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at the Santa Fe Drive Baptist Church, Weatherford. will follow in the Bethesda Cemetery north of Garner, Texas. Mary Nell was born March 30, 1942 in Fort Worth, the daughter of Nettie and Charlie Hughitt. She was the second of eleven children, six boys and five girls. They moved to Garner when Mary was in high school. She and John Edgar Dater met when he moved back to Garner. They were married 29 January 1961 at Garner Baptist Church. Mary Nell worked with Johnny as his business and she enjoyed knitting and doing word puzzles. She loved to sing and was part of the choir at Santa Fe Baptist Church where she was a long-time member. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Dater; three sons; one daughter; four grandsons and two great granddaughters.

Born on September 19, 1950, in Quincy, Florida, James was the cherished son of the late John Wesly Hogue and Rosa Mae (Brown) Hogue. He now reunites with his siblings, Eliza Hogue, John Hogue, Sam Edmond, Tisha Hogue, and Corrine Webb, who preceded him in death.Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 26 years, Vivian Williams, residing in Weatherford, Texas. James is also lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Damon and Leah Johnson, and his four grandchildren, Zaiah, Avery, Keilen, and Triston. His legacy continues through his siblings: Floyd Vickers, Betty White, Helen Hogue, Elizabeth Williams, Margaret Marshall, Michele Hogue, Sandra Hall, and Detri Brewington and her husband, Moses. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law and her husband, Madeline and Willie Brown, along with sister-in-law and her husband, Letha and Michquel Gonzalez, brother-in-law, Hall Johnson, and a host of nieces and nephews.James found solace in his faith as a member of Maranatha Bible Fellowship Church. Throughout his professional life, he contributed his skills to the construction industry, notably as a factory worker. Among his passions, James held a deep affection for basketball, both as a spectator and participant. His allegiance to The Los Angeles Lakers professional basketball team was unwavering, a testament to his enduring enthusiasm for the sport.Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the funeral service honoring James' life, at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2024, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, in Weatherford, Texas, followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Stephen Murphy “Steve” Newberry, 79, passed away on January 31, 2024 in Weatherford Steve was born January 9, 1945 in Mineral Wells; son of Lawrence and Ruby Gladys (Owens) Newberry. In his younger years, he was a truck driver. During that time he acquired the “CB Handle of Red.” This would go on to stick as a nickname for many throughout his life. Steve worked at Antelope Oil & Tool for nearly 15 years before his retirement. Over the years, he would acquire many friends; and could often be found during happy hour visiting with his friends at El Paseo in Mineral Wells. He was a simple man, and in true Texas fashion he had an affinity for all things western. He enjoyed spending time in his recliner and watching re-runs of the Rifleman, Gunsmoke, and Bonanza. While he had many joys in life, his first love was his family. He loved to spend time talking with his sons and daughter-in-law. One of the things that the family will remember most fondly about Steve is his great sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy Newberry; brothers, Mike Newberry and Kenneth Newberry; and one sister, Jean Polston, who passed away after Steve’s passing but prior to the publication of this obituary. Survivors include his children, Stephen Murphy Newberry, Jr., Vicky Hill, Eric Newberry (Cori), and Jason “Opie” Newberry (Jeannie); many grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Jacqueline Phelps. Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Poolville Cemetery. J.L. was born July 27, 1938 in Perrin, son of Joseph Lanham Curtis, Sr. and Opal (Woodard) Curtis. He met the love of his life, Juanda Juanell Dumis and they were married on September 20, 1957 in Weatherford. They would go on to spend 66 happy years together raising their family. J.L. proudly and bravely served in the United States Navy during the Korean Era. He would go on to retire from the Navy after 24 years at the rank of Yeoman First Class, and would work for an additional 25 years in the computer industry. J.L. may have been a computer programmer by trade, but his passion was farming. He loved to raise vegetables and sell them at the Farmer’s Market. He also enjoyed trips to the casino to play blackjack. Of all of the things that J.L. enjoyed in life, his first love was his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of his life, and one of his favorite pass-times was giving the grandkids a ride on the tractor. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Colton Curtis; and four sisters. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Juanell Curtis; children, Cris Curtis (Dalayna), Cathy Curtis-Russell (Scott), and Craig Curtis; grandchildren, Matthew Chatham (Vanessa), Ryan Russell (Channing), Cale Curtis (Lisa), and Megan Isenhower; great-grandchildren, Carime, Angel, Nicolas, Mia, Elliott, Kora, Hazel, and Stetson; and a host of extended family members and friends. Teresa Jo Claunch, 58, passed away peacefully with family by her side and went to be with her Lord, December 30, 2023. Teresa was born March 4, 1965 in Weatherford, Texas to William Perry and Rochelle Fern Claunch. She knew Weatherford as her hometown for most of her life. Teresa began her work in retail while still in High School. Along with playing the trumpet in high school, she also learned to play the accordion and piano. Teresa married and gave life to her two children, Kenny Ray and Patricia, whom she raised in Weatherford. She worked as a caregiver for the elderly before retiring. She lived with her son and beloved pet, "Baby girl". She was known as a kind, compassionate and just ''plain nice lady''. Teresa was respected by all who knew her. She loved the outdoors and especially watching the wonderous beaty of sunrise and sunsets. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Kay Marie Askins; parents, William Perry and Rochelle Fern Claunch; sisters, Kimberly Carr, Debra Lynn and Mary Claunch; and brothers, Samuel Benjamin Claunch and Daniel Jason Claunch. Weatherford - Thomas E. "Cotton" Dooley, 97, passed on February 17, 2024, at Holland Lake Care Center. Tom was born on July 30, 1926, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to parents George R. Key and Vera M. Blackerby. Tom served bravely in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean war. He was a member of the World War II museum in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tom enjoyed helping others but most of all, Tom loved spending time with his family. He was an auto mechanic and worked for the Police Department of Fort Worth, Texas. He was a home builder and was employed at AT&T and Wal-Mart. Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Dooley; parents, George Key, and Vera Blackerby, his granddaughter Whitney Snelson; and all his siblings. He is survived by his five children, Sherry and husband Jim Lee, Brenda and husband Roy Snelson, Thomas Bradley and wife Patti Dooley, Ray and Sandra Dooley, and Roy A. Dooley; thirteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
