Janice Bartelma Obituary

Janice "Jan" Ann Bartelma, age 83, of Colorado passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023. She was born in Denver, CO on April 17, 1940 to Frank and Betty Barger. Jan graduated from East High School and received her Bachelor's Degree of Science from Colorado State University in speech pathology. She met Bob through a reluctant blind date. They were married 9 months later on August 27, 1960. They enjoyed traveling together and Jan would have him help her in her garden. As their family grew with the three daughters they always had a dog in the mix. Jan worked in the medical field as a pediatric receptionist for Colorado Children's Clinic. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and a member of PEO and AAUW. She had a passion for reading fiction, socializing with her friends and the family cabin in Eldora. She loved being in her garden while Bob would work on his yard and traveling. Her favorite places to visit were the Cotswolds in England and Norway. Jan was a devoted wife, loving mother and the best grandmother you could ask for. Jan has a special place in her heart or at least her funny bone for Olinger Funeral Home. When we were originally located in Denver, the now Linger restaurant, she was sitting at the organ with her father who was the funeral home cantor. While in the middle of a song she slid off the bench and landed on the pedals making a loud off key note. This is a story she enjoyed telling for years to come. She is survived by her daughters: Kathy Ott and her husband Ted, Susie Peterson and her husband Vaughn, Carri Stern and her husband Dan; grandchildren: Connor, Logan, Katja and Matthew.
