Janet Shafer Obituary

Our Dear Mother, Janet Ann Shafer, passed away September 16th, 2023, and at the age of 84 years. Janet was born to the late David and Anna Laura Dill, August 6, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic High School, in 1957, and received her degree in Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1961. Janet is survived by her husband of 62 years, Paul, sister, Connie Kenney, her three children, Lisa Boltze, Greg Shafer, and Scott Shafer, seven grandchildren, Lauren Womack, Joelle Purcell, Madison Shafer, Matthew Shafer, Nicole Shafer, Nathan Shafer, and Katherine Shafer, four great grandchildren, Luci Womack, Oliver Purcell, Graham Purcell, and Finn Purcell, and a fifth great grandchild on the way. Professionally, Janet was an Elementary School Teacher for more than 35 years and consistently recognized for her exemplary care for her students and passion for excellence. After retirement from her teaching career, Janet gave of her time and talents, generously, to multiple charitable organizations, through volunteerism. When not teaching or serving a charitable cause, Janet enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with her large circle of friends and family. Most important in life, to Janet, were her Catholic faith and family. She lived her life as a joyous, selfless servant to Our Lord Jesus Christ, husband Paul, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all her friends. Janet's qualities of kindness and humility were noted by all - relative, friend, or someone she just met. Through her joy and kind-heartedness, Janet always brought a little more happiness into everyone's life. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for her great love and selflessness. A funeral mass will be held at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church, in Tampa, Florida, on September 28th at 10:30AM EST. A burial service follows mass at Florida National Cemetery 2:00PM EST. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests instead considering a donation to the Alzheimer's Association to help fight Alzheimer's disease and research for its cure.
