OBITUARY FOR Johnny Lee Reed was born to Sarah Allen and the late William Johnson on November 23, 1966. On November 5, 2023, God called him to rest at his home. He was a member of Greater Grace Ministries in Cuthbert, Ga. He was employed at Birdsong Peanut Company for 21 year. He was preceded in death by his father, William Johnson, one brother, Tony Allen, one sister, Tammie Russell, and grandparents, Alvina and Boyzell Reed, and aunt Beverly Reed. He leaves to cherish him, a loving wife, Mary Lee Reed, five children: Laquila Ofton ( Greg ) , Elizabeth Lee-Williams, (Laracus), Quincey Lee ( Laquesha ), Prent Wright (Jessica), Crystal Ogden ( Bryan). Seven Siblings: Debbie Smith, Cathy Reed, LaShannon Price (Bryan), Jewanta Smith (William),Willie Allen (LaTisha), Damien Allen (Matissa) and Eldrick Allen. 17 grandchildren, Ny-Akiah Lee, Troy Quez Lee, Greg Ofton, Jr. Quentavean Lee, Quincey Lee, Jr. Angelina Henderson, Zariah Patterson, Tiara Lewis, Janyle Lewis, Anyrah Copeland, JaQuazian Ofton, Rakeevian Lee, Montez Ofton, Chosen Ogden. Chasten Ogden, Christian Ogden, Creyson Ogden and one great grand Princeton Garcia: two aunts: Lillie Richardson ( Anthony), and Mary Jackson; and a special aunt Jollie Igles ( Gerry), and one uncle Albert Reed; three special friends: Chris Lee, Jerry Lett, and Tyrone Sparrows. Reverend Dr. Jack (Jackie) Balkcom Sammons peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family and the grace of the Lord. Jack was a native of Blakely, GA, son of the late Jack Sammons and Melba Balkcom Sammons. His profound love for Jesus defined his purpose, and he dedicated his life to following the path Christ set out for him, a journey that began when he became a Christian at the age of nine. In his younger years, he worked as a Sunbeam bread salesman in the Blakely area and for Flowers Baking Company for several years before being ordained in 1972 by Colomokee Baptist Church to become a minister. A man of academic excellence, Jack graduated with honors from Blakely High School in 1960; graduated Summa Cum Laude from Albany Junior College, Albany, GA in 1973; graduated Summa Cum Laude from Columbus College, Columbus, GA in 1974; graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree with Languages in 1977; and earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Southeastern Theological Seminary in 1982. Throughout his pastoral journey, Jack served congregations in Lumpkin, GA; Louisburg, NC; Franklinton, NC; Canton, NC, and Old Fort, NC. He also worked as the Director of Missions at Haywood Baptist Association for many years. Jack's passion for the Lord extended beyond the pulpit and into other areas, such as directing a children's summer camp in Waynesville, NC, called Camp New Life; traveling with his wife and their Christian touring company, Creation Tours; and attending many other events, speaking engagements, and holding other various positions throughout the years. Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Clark Sammons, who passed away November 1, 2021. He is survived by his daughter Jill Parrish and her husband, Bill; and a granddaughter, Addison Parrish. Services will be held at Colomokee Baptist Church on November 18, 2023 at 11:00 a. m. Pearline Lewis McGriff, departed her earthly home to her heavenly home onThursday, November 2, 2023 at Early Medical Center in Blakely, Georgia. Pearlinewas the daughter of the late Pearlie Mae Daniels and the late Willie James Lewis. Pearline was educated in the Calhoun County School System, graduating with theclass of 1980. At an early age, she joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church inLeary, Georgia. After graduating high school, she entered the workforce with her first job at BrewSchneider. She tried other jobs, then found employment at Thomas & Betts. She then pursued acareer in the healthcare field which she worked until she decided on anotheravenue with the Seminole County School System until she transitioned. She met and married Samuel McGriff. From this union, three children were born. Pearline enjoyed going to church, shopping, cooking and spending time with hergrandchildren. Pearline was preceded in death by one brother, Tarus Lewis. She leaves to cherish her legacy to one daughter Shontay McGriff of Blakely,Georgia. Two sons Patrick McGriff, Sr. , and Samuel McGriff both of Atlanta,Georgia. Three sisters Pauline Scott and Willie Maude Lee both of Arlington,Georgia and Willie Ann (Arthur) Upshaw of Phoenix City, Alabama. Willie Cea Russell, known affectionately as Willie to all who knew him, passed away peacefully from natural causes on October 24, 2023. Born on June 18, 1954, in Blakely, Georgia, Willie's life was marked by a spirit of adventure, a knack for fixing things, and a generous heart that touched numerous lives. Willie was the beloved son of Willie C and Rheba Russell, both of whom preceded him in death. He was one of a large and loving family, which included four brothers, Willie Lee, C. B. , Willie Jr. , and Willie Floyd, and two sisters, Willie Ruth and Earlene Pritchard. Willie is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Young, and his four children, LaVar Russell of Fort Pierce, Florida, Gary Russell of Jupiter, Florida, and Danielle and Stacey of Blakely, Georgia. He was a cherished grandfather to Anthony, Elijah, Bella, and Liam, all of Fort Pierce, Florida. Willie's surviving siblings include his brothers, Roy Russell (Josephine) and R. C. Russell, both of Blakely, Georgia. He leaves behind three sisters-in-law: Rebecca Lamar of Jupiter, Florida, Cindy Gordon of Orlando, Florida, and Elaine Davidson of North Carolina. Willie's extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, as well as a large circle of friends, will miss him deeply. For many years, Willie was a reliable and skilled driver for two trucking companies, Empire and J & J Trucking. His work allowed him to indulge his love for travel and explore new places, a passion that continued into his retirement. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated worker who always had a story to share from his journeys on the road. Outside of work, Willie was known for his adventurous spirit and his handy nature. He loved to tinker and fix things, a skill that often came in handy for his family and friends. Willie was also incredibly generous, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer support to those in need. His kindness and generosity of spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. In the words of Mark Twain, "The secret of getting ahead is getting started. " Willie lived this quote, never shying away from a new adventure or challenge. His zest for life was infectious, inspiring those around him to seize opportunities and live life to the fullest. We mourn the loss of Willie, but we also celebrate a life well-lived. His legacy of love, adventure, and generosity will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Willie's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the joy of exploration. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. We are grateful for the time we had with Willie and for the many ways he enriched our lives.
