Janet Elaine Shearer Hepkin of Redmond, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2022 in her home. She was 76. Janet was born on May 13, 1946 to David and Jean Shearer in Buffalo, NY. Soon after birth, her family moved to Birmingham, AL where she spent her childhood. After Janet graduated from Shades Valley High School, Birmingham, AL, in 1964 she went on to study Elementary Education at the University of Southern Mississippi. While at the University of Southern Mississippi, Janet met the love of her life and future husband, John Louis Hepkin, Jr. They were married in 1967 in Germany, where John was deployed in the Army. After John's Army service ended, they returned to Mississippi where John finished his degree and Janet started her first teaching job as a first grade teacher. Soon after, they started a family, and Janet began her second career as a dedicated homemaker to her family. In their early married years, Janet and John were quite the nomads and lived in several different states due to John's job. They ultimately settled in Dallas, Texas, where their two children spent the majority of their childhood. After their children were grown, they moved to Colorado and spent many happy years together traveling the country in their RV. Janet had most recently moved to Redmond, WA, to be closer to her grandchildren. Janet enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains, sewing, reading, and meeting up with friends. She also had a strong Catholic faith and enjoyed many Bible studies with close friends. But, she most loved spending time with her family. She was a very caring and devoted mother and grandmother. She was the source of endless love and support for her 2 children and 8 grandchildren. Their lives have all been blessed with her love and encouragement. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, John, and by her parents, David and Jean Shearer. She is survived by her daughter Laura Reed and her husband Ethan (Sykesville, MD), David Hepkin and wife Molly (Redmond, WA), and 8 grandchildren.
