Janet Gail Krill Carter1946-2023The Lord Jesus called Janet Gail Krill Carter home on Monday, October 2 after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer. Janet fought the good fight and finished the race-she kept the faith through it all. Jesus replied, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through Me. " John 14:6Janet Gail Krill was born on May 25, 1946 in Kalamazoo, MI, the second of nine children. In 1966, she graduated from the Bronson School of Nursing. The student nurses went to a dance at Western Michigan University, where Janet met James W. Carter, Jr. They married on October 29, 1966 at Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo. In their first years of marriage, Janet worked as a registered nurse while Jim served in the Marine Corps and completed law school. The couple eventually settled in Arlington Heights, IL, where they became members of St. Peter Lutheran Church in 1975. They raised four children, sending each to school at St. Peter. Janet was frugal, resourceful, loyal, thoughtful, intelligent, and she diligently looked after her household. In addition, Jan extended herself to those outside her home by leading Brownie and Girl Scout troops and volunteering in numerous ministries including Ladies Bible Sharing, VBS, Sunday School, Ladies Altar Guild and crisis pregnancy centers. One of Jan's beloved labors was creating homemade birthday and anniversary cards for all of her extended family members, praying for each as she mailed her greetings. Jan enjoyed traveling with her husband on many overseas business and ministry trips, but especially appreciated the simplicity of their annual family vacation in Door County, WI, which they began in 1988. More admirable than her many worldly accomplishments was Janet's godly character and the humble, unassuming way she carried herself with grace, dignity, self-control, purity, kindness, and humor. Janet left a beautiful legacy as an example of selfless sacrifice and strength for her family to imitate. Her children and grandchildren were especially precious to her, and they along with her husband rise up and call her blessed (Proverbs 31:28). Janet is survived by her husband of 57 years, James W. Carter, Jr; her siblings: Charles (Cindy) Krill, James Krill, and Joyce Krill, all of Vicksburg, MI, Phillip (Sue) Krill of Des Plaines, IL, and Joseph (Robyn) Krill of Scotts, MI; her siblings by marriage: Cindy Krill of Mendon, MI, Susan (Frank) Svatek of Mountain Home, AR, Jane (Robert) Cikanek of LaGrange, IL; her children: James W. Carter III (Linda) of Milwaukee, WI, Elizabeth (Scott) Nelson of Schaumburg, IL, Sarah (Vince) Bartolome of Gilberts, IL, and David (Alyssa) Carter of Carpentersville, IL; her grandchildren: James, Moses, Nicodemus, Hannah, and Julia Carter; Gabriel and Malachi Nelson, Jia-Zong Sam (Xi-Zi Lydia) Hu; Evangeline, Luke, Samuel, and Jonathan Bartolome; Ellison Carter; and her great-grandchild Wei-Ran Joseph Hu; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and their descendants, who are spread across the United States. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick & Doris Krill; her brothers Frederick Krill, Donald Krill, Thomas Krill; nephews Andrew Krill, Eric and Jeremy Svatek; as well as her parents by marriage, James W. Carter, Sr and his wife, Doris L. (nee Olson) Carter. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL on Friday, October 20, 2023, with bereaved invited to attend promptly at 9:30am. St. Peter Lutheran Church of Arlington Heights, IL will host a visitation at 1:30pm and a Celebration of Life service at 3pm on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Memorial offerings may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church & School of Arlington Heights, IL or any other ministry committed to the pure and true gospel of Jesus Christ.
