Janet A. Bergesen, 84, of Wesley Chapel, FL (formerly of Woodbridge, Va) passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023, surrounded by her family, at Advent Health Hospital in Dade City, FL. She was born October 14, 1938, in Alden Station, PA to Marien and Anna (Skrip) Reno. Janet attended Newport Township High School, and later, Wilkes College. After graduation, she moved to Washington, D. C, to work for the U. S Air Force at the Pentagon. It was here that she met her husband-to-be on a blind date set up by a friend. She was last employed by the Prince William County Police Department as Secretary to the Eastern Commander. This was her most rewarding job and she held the position for 25 years before retiring to care for her mother. On August 30, 1958, Janet wed the love of her life, Richard, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nanticoke, PA. The happy couple went on to have three children. Janet was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church for 54 years. She thoroughly enjoyed all of the groups and clubs she was a member of; Catholic Women's Council, The Fun Bunch, Red Hat Society, and more! It was within these groups that she made many long-lasting friendships. Her hobbies and interests included time spent with family, traveling the world, going on cruises or visiting their time-shares in Mexico, decorating for holidays, her dachshunds, collecting all things pigs, and shopping! She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to all of her family members, but notably after her retirement to care for her mother until she passed away at age 86. Janet is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard (Wesley Chapel, FL); son, Brad Bergesen (Triangle, VA); 2 daughters Karen Munoz (Mike Munoz, Wesley Chapel, FL) and Sharon Jenkins (Dumfries, VA). She was blessed with 6 grandchildren; Jennifer Collins (Donnie Collins, Montclair, VA), Branden Bergesen (Triangle, VA), Bryan Bergesen (Mitchells, VA), Brittany Mulligan (Sean Mulligan, Dumfries, VA), Rachael Jenkins (Dumfries, VA), and Ryan Jenkins (Dumfries, VA); 5 great-grandchildren; Blake Collins (Amanda Collins, Minot, ND), Brooke Collins (Montclair, VA), Brielle Collins (Montclair, VA), Ella Bergesen (Mitchells, VA), and Jaxson Mulligan (Dumfries, VA); and 1 great-great-granddaughter Olivia Collins (Minot, ND) She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Diane; daughter-in-law, Barbara Bergesen, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Burial services will be held in Bushnell National Cemetery in FL. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date at her home parish, Our Lady of Angels, in Woodbridge, VA for those local to her hometown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet's memory to Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
