Jane Ellen (Snyder) Akin Bergen, daughter of the late Leslie R. Snyder, Jr. and Reta (Trammell) Snyder, was born March 10, 1939 on the homestead of her grandparents, north of Waynoka, and passed away with her husband at her side, on September 6, 2023, at her home in Waynoka, at the age of 84 years. Jane attended school in Waynoka and Belen, New Mexico, and completed school at 16. She attended Beauty College in Albuquerque, returning to Belen where mother and daughter went into partnership in a beauty shop for about 20 years. Jane moved back to Waynoka in 1972 and in 1973 became employed with the Santa Fe Railroad. She was the last agent out of Waynoka before being transferred to Kansas City, Kansas. She retired out of Kansas City in 1994 and returned to her home in Waynoka. In March of 2009, Jane was married for the last time to Shelly Bergen and they traveled and antiqued with more love and happiness for each other than most have in a lifetime. Besides her parents, Leslie and Reta, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Snyder; a sister, Tuana Snyder; a son, Danny Akin; and a daughter, Dian (Akin) McManis Fry. Jane is survived by her husband, Shelly of Waynoka; daughter, Valeri Baggatt and husband, Bob, of Iowa; a son-in-law, Mike Fry of Woodward; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Akin of Woodward; grandsons, Robert McManis and wife, Tammy, of Edmond; Terry Hale and wife, Jessica, of Oklahoma City; five great grandchildren, Chase McManis, Colby Reese McManis, McKinsey McManis, Conner McManis, and Amara Hale; other relatives and friends. "

Benny Lyon

"Benny Charles Lyon, 72, a lifetime resident of Waynoka, Oklahoma, passed away July 8, 2023. Benny was born July 17, 1950, in Alva, Oklahoma, and was the son of the late Harley and Gertrude Lyon. Benny attended and was a graduate of Waynoka High School. After High School, Benny attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University, in Alva, Oklahoma, and graduated from the LEEP program. Benny had always wanted to be a Police Officer and had passion for Law Enforcement. He became a Police Officer for the City of Waynoka, shortly after college in 1973, and worked as a Police Officer until 1982. In 1982, Benny quit the Waynoka Police Force and became a Lineman for the City of Waynoka. He worked as a lineman until he retired in July of 2015. Benny worked for the City of Waynoka from October 1, 1973 until July 10, 2015, serving the City of Waynoka and their residents for 42 years. Benny was a simple man. He could be seen wearing a T-shirt, jeans, and his favorite flannel shirt almost daily. He loved to fish when he was younger. He loved his children, grandchildren, and his siblings very much. He looked forward to the long conversations over coffee with family. As he got older, Benny loved to go walking. Benny is preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie and Larry Lyon; his sister, Karen Bay, and his niece, Lana Lyon. Benny is survived by Connie Lyon, whom he wed in 1985 and her mother, Bea Valencia; his sons, Brent, Jeremy, and Chad Lyon from his union with former wife, Alfreda Schulz; their spouses, Tayton, Tiffany, and Becky Lyon; his grandchildren, Baily, Addie, Camden, Grey, Rylan, Emilee, Emma, and Olivia; a great grandchild, Ivy June; his brother and his wife, Phil and Felicia Lyon, his brother and his wife, David and Lyn Lyon, his sister, Sue Whitney; and a host of nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. There will be a visitation with the family present from 5:30 to 7:30 p. m. Teddy Dean Jones, son of the late Ted Sturgeon and Verla Dean (Howell) Jones, was born March 25, 1942, in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away October 12, 2022, in Waynoka, Oklahoma, at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 17 days. Teddy attended Waynoka Schools, then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. On December 16, 1961, he was united in marriage to Mary Kaaloa Kekauoha, at Kahaku, Hawaii. Marcella Joice Beach, daughter of the late Roy Means and Helyn Margaret (Robinson) Harris, was born October 12, 1924, in Sun City, Kansas, and passed away January 15, 2022, in Waynoka, Oklahoma, at the age of 97 years, 3 months, and 3 days. Marcella was cremated at her request and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Marcella attended several schools and graduated from Waynoka High School with the Class of 1943. She then moved to Wichita and worked at Boeing as a riveter on B29 bombers for use in World War II. On December 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Wilford "Sonny" Beach. They made their home in Waynoka where she was a homemaker. They enjoyed square dancing. Later in their marriage she was a cook for the school and then helped Sonny manage the Waynoka Housing Authority after his retirement from the railroad. Sonya Sue Cummins, of Waynoka, died suddenly on November 9, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born January 3, 1936, to LeRoy and Violet Noreen Thornhill Meek of Belva, Oklahoma. She graduated from Waynoka High School in 1953 and attended Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College in Stillwater. Just as she graduated, the college name was changed to Oklahoma State University. After graduation, Sonya purchased a Dusk Pearl and Imperial Ivory (Pink with white top) 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air hardtop (with 283 cubic inch V8 producing 210 HP) in order to travel to her first teaching job. She taught what was called Home Economics for a short time, before marrying Virgil Cummins and moving to a farm north of Freedom, Oklahoma. The couple had two children, Debra and Donald. They later divorced. In 1978, Sonya earned her Master's Degree and began a new teaching career in Waynoka. Before retiring in 2004, she taught students of all grade levels in multiple subjects. He attended Rose Valley School where he was taught by his older sister, Alberta Bissantz until the ninth grade when he transferred to Waynoka High School.
