Cheryl Ann Peck died at age 77 on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Agrace Hospice, Janesville. She was born October 10, 1946, to Ethel and John Keegan. She was a 1965 graduate of Janesville Senior High School and earned a teaching degree from UW-Whitewater in 1970. She married Greg Peck in Lahaina on the Hawaiian Island of Maui on May 12, 1998. Cheryl taught at St. William Catholic School and was a newsroom clerk for 15 years at The Gazette. She worked 12 years as office manager at Hartung Brothers, a Madison seed corn company, before retiring. She volunteered at Rotary Botanical Gardens and was a member of the Friends of Rotary Gardens, St. John Vianney Catholic Church and UW-Whitewater’s Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Cheryl was a lifelong resident of Janesville and appreciated her small roles in the community’s history. As teens, she and friend Judi Erdman Kirchner waitressed at Milt’s Coffee Shop on Racine Street. She enjoyed childhood trips to Riverside (“the park with three parks”). She snuck candy and “tiger meat” while helping with the Keegan family’s neighborhood grocery at Mineral Point Avenue and Walnut Street. She volunteered at the Rock County Historical Society, compiling information for the Gazette’s former “Looking Back” historical photo feature. Cheryl was proud to be in the first class to complete all eight grades at St. William School. She bowled in leagues for decades and was in a euchre card club with friends for more than 50 years. She and Greg traveled the country and to Ireland.Survivors include her husband, Greg; sons, Adam Hoffman of Palatine, Ill., and Eric Hoffman of Kenosha; daughter-in-law, Jillian Hoffman of Palatine; stepson, Joshua Peck of Janesville; grandchildren, Alexis Hoffman and Jeremy Hoffman; brother, John (Colly) Keegan of Florida; sisters: Candy (Larry) Reed of Iowa, Carol (David) Bride of Florida, and Cindy (Mike) Moe of De Pere; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Cheryl is also survived by her cairn terrier, Molly. She was predeceased by her parents.A memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH; with inurnment immediately following to Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5th, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME; and will continue on Wednesday at Church from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorial donations can be made to: the Rotary Botanical Gardens, the Rock County Historical Society or to Agrace Hospice.

Nancy M. Hogue, age 74, passed away on February 22, 2024 at Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center. Nancy was born in Alton, IL on December 19, 1949 the daughter of Karl and Viola Schaffner. She married Edward V. Hogue in Alton, IL on October 12, 1968. They moved to Clinton, WI in 1975.Nancy was a CNA and worked at Meadow Park in Clinton. She ran a daycare in her home for many years. Nancy and Ed were foster parents for over 40 years and opened their home to numerous children, adopting 3.She loved spending time with her family, being outdoors, going to their camper, fishing and anything craft related.Nancy is survived by her husband, Edward V. Deanna May Foss, age 85, of Janesville, passed away February 24, 2024 at Cedar Crest Health Center after suffering with Parkinson’s for many years. She was born May 6, 1938 in Madison WI, the daughter of Herbert and Cassie (Titus) Wesenberg. She graduated from Madison West High School in 1956 and went directly on to the Milwaukee Accredited School of Beauty Culture. After schooling was complete, she took a position as a beautician in Madison for the next five years.After a long courtship Dee married William C. Foss on August 15,1959 in Verona, WI. While in Madison, their first son was born. Shortly after their second son was born, the family moved to Janesville, WI. There she took teaching courses, which enabled her to work part time in a neighborhood nursery school. When her third child was in high school, she resumed, on a part time basis, her job as a beautician. During her years in Janesville she served her church, First Lutheran, in many different ways. Being involved as a Sunday school teacher, and holding leadership roles in both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, she was a great influence for her children. She was the ultimate homemaker; sewing, cooking, cleaning, taking care of flowers and always on the move. She enjoyed summer family vacations to many states, but her favorite site was the family cabin, built by her father, in Vilas County where she could enjoy the great outdoors.Dee is survived by her husband of 64 years, William; three children, Randall (Ruth) Foss of Appleton, Steven (Jill) of Plymouth MN, and Karen Asmus (Glenda) of Janesville; seven precious grandchildren; three great grandchildren, sister, Donna Frisinger.Preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Dale; brother-in-law, Russell Frisinger.Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. on Monday March 4, 2024 at First Lutheran Church, 612 N. She was born May 18, 1952, in Aberdeen, SD, to the late Albert F. and Elizabeth (Wisneske) Dummer. On July 27, 1968, she married William Abraham in Janesville, WI. Judy enjoyed her seasonal career with Swiss Colony helping fulfill all the holiday orders for families.Judy enjoyed playing Facebook games, baking-especially with her mom, shopping, trips to Vegas, and of course her ultimate favorite playing bingo. Walter L. Krohn, age 92, passed away on February 23, 2024 at home. Walter was born in Birchwood, WI January 27, 1932, the son of Frank and Loella Krohn. Walter married Adrianne Graves on June 27, 1957, together they spent 66 years together before her passing on April 1, 2023.Walter retired from General Motors in 1987, after 37 years. Walter enjoyed time with his family, he and Adrianne liked to travel with their daughter Valerie. Walter had a good sense of humor and his favorite vice was scratch off lottery tickets.He is survived by his daughter, Val Radloff, grandson, Chad Radloff; granddaughter, Amber Radloff; many nieces, nephews and dear friend to many.Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Loella Krohn, his wife of 66 years, Adrianne, siblings, Evelyn Hefty, Toby Krohn, Clara Rublowski, Marie Olmstead, Annie Matts, Vera Baker, and Franki Krohn.A private graveside service will be held at Milton Lawns Memorial Park.

Eugene F. “Gene” Rux, 95, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital Janesville, surrounded by his family. Gene was born on June 18, 1928 to Fred and Emma (Tomashaska) Rux in Eagle Township, Richland County, WI. He entered the United States Army in 1946 and was stationed in Germany while serving in WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1948. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Foley on July 26, 1952 in Loreto, WI. Together they raised two children, Brad and Judy. They moved to LaCrosse, WI in 1959 where he drove truck for Gateway Transportation. In 1973 they moved to Janesville, WI where Gene retired from TNT Holland Trucking in 1989. Upon retirement he worked for Fairview Florist delivering flowers and was later employed by Fagan Chevrolet as a shuttle driver for several years.Gene loved life. Spending time with family was very important to him. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. They always brought a big smile to his face. They all loved and adored “Papa”.Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. He especially loved his times in LaCrosse fishing with his buddies. LaCrosse was truly “God’s Country” in his mind. He was always ready to go back to visit. He was a big Green Bay Packer fan. He, along with his son, grandson, and son-in-law ushered at Lambeau Field during home games for many years.Gene is survived by his children, Brad (Kathy) Rux and Judy (Jeff) Erdmann; grandchildren, Jason (Candice) Rux, Sarah Rux, Josh (Brittany) Erdmann, and Kaitlin (Jeff) Simmons; great-grandchildren, Brayleigh and Braxton Rux, Ella Erdmann, Cameron Simmons, and another great-grandson on the way; twin sister Betty Unbehaun; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Emma, wife, Betty, siblings, Myron, Earl, Bernice, Merlin, Madalene, Gerald “Speck”, and Richard “Dick”.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church Janesville with visitation from 10:00am until 11:00am, Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, Burial with military honors will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Muscoda, WI at a later date.Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.The family would like to thank the staff at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for their care and kindness given to Gene.Gene’s love of family and friends and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.We will miss him every day. Marjorie M. Reed passed away peacefully and comfortably on Tuesday February 20, 2024, at Agrace Hospice in Janesville, WI. She was born on April 28, 1927, in Chicago, IL to Raymond and Anna “Louret” Madden. As a child her family traveled as her dad was the owner of RT Madden Construction Company. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School. She graduated in 1947 from UW-Milwaukee Teachers College. She went to UW-Whitewater and graduated with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. She married James William Reed on August 29, 1953.Marjorie loved teaching at Washington Elementary School in Janesville. The children knew her as Mrs. M. Reed for 23 years. After retirement she enjoyed teaching “Getting Ready for Kindergarten” in summer school. She taught Sunday school at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and volunteered in helping with funeral dinners. When she wasn’t teaching, she loved playing bridge and 500 Club. She enjoyed playing bingo with her dear friend Vivian from Huntington. She was involved in many clubs including St. Elizabeth Auxiliary, Catholic Women’s club, Questers, Retired Teachers, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and American Business Women’s Association, and The Serra Club where she wrote birthday cards and holiday cards to all the priests in the Madison Diocese. Marjorie was loved and adored by not only her family, but the community.She is survived by her daughters Ann Reed-Lehr, Janet McLean (Storer), Mary Kay (Jim) Moreno, Sally (David) Churchill and Margaret (Dan) Zitzer. She adored her 17 grandchildren Elizabeth Lehr, Tim (Lindsay) Lehr, Kevin (Caitlin) Lehr, Greg Lehr, and Mitchell (Savannah) Lehr. Ned (Mary Ann) Storer and Adam (Stephanie) Storer. James (Quinn) Moreno, Michael (Meghan) Moreno, Christopher (Rachelle) Moreno, Jacob (Nicole) Moreno, and Luke Moreno. Richard Churchill, Wanda (Jon) Austin, and Marie Churchill. Katherine Zitzer and Henry Zitzer. She enjoyed time with her 9 great-grandsons and 10 great-grand daughters.She was preceded in death by her husband James Reed, twin daughters Marie and Lucille Reed, parents, brothers, John R. Madden, Sr., Rodger Madden, Sisters Kathleen Madden and Mary Elizabeth Schumacher, sisters-in-law Ruth, and Mary Ann Madden. Aunt Marguerite and Aunt “Big” Mary Madden, Cousin, Harold Madden, Jr., and son-in-law Dave McLean.Family and friends of Marjorie are respectfully invited to attend the visitation from 4-7:30 pm followed by a Rosary Prayer Service from 7:30-8:00 pm on Thursday, February 29, 2024, which will be held at Schneider Funeral Directors, 1800 East Racine Street, Janesville, WI 53547 and a Catholic mass at 10:30 am (visitation from 9:30 - 10:30 prior to the funeral mass) on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Nativity of Mary Parish, 313 E.
