James (Jim) Roy Wuest passed peacefully from this life to the next on September 7, 2023. He was surrounded by loving family. His family celebrates his earthy life as heaven celebrates his eternal life. Jim was 88 years old. At the same time that heaven welcomed Jim home, he was finally reunited with his true love, Kathryn (Adamski) Wuest who passed away October 18, 2013. Jim was born September 27, 1934 in Port Huron, MI to Lake Freighter Captain Roy Wuest and the saintly Ethel (Douse) Wuest. Jim is preceded in death by his beloved wife Kathy, his parents, and his siblings: Howard, William Jerry, Tom, Daniel Wuest, and Lois Quinn. He is survived by siblings Mary Obert and Robert WuestJuly 26, 1979 he married the love of his life, Kathy Adamski. They had 34 wonderful years together. Jim has seven children and two step children. Children include James (Carol) Wuest, Lynne Wuest, Dennis Wuest, Sandy (Al) Imber, Kelleigh Wuest, Rich (Angel) Wuest, Cyndie (Jim) Worley and Step Children Tom (Candy) Nowak and Kristen (Rob) Sweeney. Jim and Kathy had 30 grand children and over 25 great grandchildren. Paul and Mary Ann Adamski are Jim's special brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Their sons/daughters-in-law/grandchildren, are Jim's special nephews and nieces. Jim's others in-law include: Terry (Ron) Barb (Jeff) and Vicki. Jim wanted us to share some of his history, favorite memories and proudest accomplishments. The Wuest family moved from Port Huron to Toledo, Ohio in 1935. Captain Roy Wuest could spend more time with his family from the Port of Toledo. Jim was the sixth of nine children. He grew up on the East Side of Toledo with his six brothers and two sisters. Jim attended St. Thomas Elementary. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1953 and went on to attend the University of Toledo for 2 years. Jim enjoyed playing many sports, including: golf, softball, racquetball, basketball, bowling and baseball. One of his proudest sports moments was getting a no hitter while playing in the Federation League. He pitched the no hitter while filling in for that position. He usually played 3rd base. He was also very proud of getting SEVEN holes in one on the golf course. While playing in a basketball league he hit 86% of his foul shots. One year in the city league he had 40 foul shots and made every one of them. Jim's CYO team won the state title in basketball in 1952 and was runner up for the national title. Jim's job history includes working at The Catholic Club for three years as a life guard, Saint Ursuline school for two years as a driver and a handyman. Jim worked in the shipyards for a year and was proud that he worked on the beams for the Mackinac Bridge. He also worked at Libby Owens Ford for two years in the production department. He worked on the lake freighters for one year. He worked at the B&O Railroad as a conductor for 10 years. For nine of those years he also worked at Jeep. He worked at Jeep for 32 years from 1959 to 1991. Jim started in the mail room and retired as upper management in the scheduling department. Jim's biggest blessing was the 34 years he shared with his beloved Kathy. He talked often of her and the life adventures they shared. They loved to travel together. They enjoyed visiting or traveling with other couples too. Jim and Kathy have taken 4 cruises, been to Las Vegas 7 times, San Francisco, Biltmore and Hurst Castles, Rocky Mountains, Black Hills, Bad Lands and more. But his favorite trips were to California to visit Yosemite National Park and to golf at Pebble Beach. He loved their many trips to the Smokey Mountains with their special friends. Jim also enjoy their 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii. Jim and Kathy shared adventures boating on the Great Lakes. They joined River View Yacht Club in 1986 and were life members. Jim was Fleet Captain in 1995. His boats included a 26' Skiffcraft, 26' Chris-Craft and a 34' cabin cruiser. They traveled all over Lake Erie and Lake Huron, including a trip to Mackinaw Island. Jim was a music lover and he and Kathy went to many concerts and shows. His favorite was the Garth Brooks Concert. James Wuest was blessed with a long and healthy life, many children and grandchildren, adventures, friends and true love. He recently developed a close relationship with God through Jesus Christ. He would ask everyone to read the book "Heaven is for Real" to get a picture of the hope of heaven and Gods' true loving nature. Visitation will be Friday, September 15, 2023 from 2:00-7:00 p. m. at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St. Toledo, Ohio 43611. River View Yacht Club will honor James with a Maritime Service at 7:00 p. m. . Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 in the funeral home with Deacon Dan Quinn, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Toledo.
