James Valentine Obituary

"James William Valentine, 86, of Cross City, Florida passed away May 8, 2023 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Valentine was born March 13, 1937 to the late John and Alma Valentine in Shamrock, Florida. He was a life long resident of Dixie County. Mr. Valentine graduated from Dixie County High School in 1956. He had worked as a carpenter apprentice with his dad, then at the McCleod's Ice Plant, next at Continental Turpentine and Rosin, later at Hudson Pulp and Paper, and then he opened the Cross City Machine Shop in 1974, which he operated until he retired at 83. He was a charter member of the Ramsey Bend Hunting Club and was a member of the Lydia Baptist Church. Mr. Valentine is survived by his sons Kevin Valentine (Regina) and Gregory Valentine (Dawn) both of Cross City, his daughters Elizabeth Palmer (Donald), Kimberly Tucker (Omer), and Karen Bannister (Danny) all of Cross City, his brothers Jackie Valentine (Linda) and Brantley Valentine (Jeri), his siters Betty Cannon (Hurbert) and Sue McInnis, 19 grandchildren, 29, great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene Valentine, his brother Charles Valentine, his sister Marie Donley, and his grandchildren Kevin Valentine, Jr. and Danielle Bannister. Funeral services for Mr. Valentine will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Cross City Chapel, with Pastor Jarrett Thomas and Pastor Cole Downing officiating. Interment will follow in Cross City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
