Kay Wilkinson, 88, formerly of Maysfield, Texas, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023, surrounded by family at her daughter's home in Austin. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, September 8, 2023 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron, Texas. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron, Texas. Kay was born on December 22,1934 in Henderson, Texas, rural Rusk County, to Evelyn (Holland) and Benjamin Clarence Stevens. She grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1953. Kay worked at the bank in Lake Jackson and later retired from Merchants Fast Motor Lines in Freeport, where she worked as the office manager. Over the years, no matter where Kay was living, she was always engaged with the community. After retirement, Kay especially loved serving at the First Methodist Church in Maysfield and as a weekly volunteer at the Cameron Hospital. Kay had a daughter, Deborah Kay (Horn) Hair, and two sons, Edward Earl Horn and Steven Mark Horn with her first husband, Lawrence Earl Horn. Her beloved Steven was killed in a car accident when he was twelve. Several years after she and Earl divorced, she married L. M. (Mac) Andrews and our family loved going to the annual Easter egg hunts they hosted in Sargent and Matagorda. After his passing, she married Bob Wilkinson in 1996 and shortly thereafter they moved to Maysfield where Bob grew up. They bought two acres not far from Bob's birthplace and loved hosting family get-togethers there. We all have fond memories of those times. Reading, cooking, gardening, sewing, and dancing were all some of Kay's favorite things to do. She made quilts for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. "Grannie Kay" was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a quiet, incredible person, always happiest when doing for others -- cooking someone's favorite dish, sending notes and cards, offering wise counsel. Her loving kindness and Christian example will long be remembered by everyone. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Louise Boyett, and her two sons, Steven Mark Horn and Edward Earl Horn. Her sister Linda Schaeffer of Ben Wheeler passed away a few days after her. We rejoice knowing they are all in heaven together.
