Beverly Ann Samuelson, 96, of East Grand Rapids Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home on February 20, 2024. In her final months, Beverly was surrounded by her devoted and loving family, reflecting the care she extended to others all her life. She was born in Eugene Oregon on March 25, 1927. From age two, she grew up in Lisbon, North Dakota. She attended nursing school in Fargo, North Dakota. Her first nursing job was at the Des Moines Veteran’s hospital where she met her loving husband, Harold E. Samuelson, at a Christmas party in 1948, they married 9 months later on September 15, 1949. In the span of twelve years they had five children. The family lived in East Grand Rapids in the same house from 1955 until the time of her death 69 years later. Central to the family was East Minster Presbyterian Church, a few blocks from their home which they attended from 1955 until 2023. At the age of 45, the love of her life, Harold, died of pancreatic cancer leaving her a widow with five children to raise on her own. In preparing for her death, Beverly wanted others know, “God has been good to me all my life. Through all my earthly struggles God has always been there for me.” She met Jesus when she was five years old at church in her Sunday School. Jesus was her guide and companion through a difficult childhood. Her family lost the farm when she was twelve in The Great Depression, they moved in town which allowed her to become more involved in church. She said that experiencing the presence of God, the love of Jesus Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit carried and comforted her all her life. She wanted people to know that “I have the most loving and supportive family one could have. What a blessing they have been to me.” She leaves behind her five children and their spouses, Chris (Carol), Carol (Roger Gerlach), Susan (Richard Blue), Paul (Elma) and James (Jeanine) along with twelve amazing grandchildren, Scott Samuelson (Sarah Kyle), Amanda Samuelson (Michael Gustaveson), Megan Samuelson (Thomas Haines), Emily Gerlach, Jenna Gerlach, Lauren Blue Schifferdecker (John), Philip Blue (Colleen Shields), Nathaniel Samuelson, Hannah Samuelson, Elizabeth Samuelson, Eric Samuelson, Katie Samuelson Lyons (Justin), and 9 great grandchildren, Irene, William, Alli, Hal, John, Benjamin, Matilda, Barrett and Vivienne.There will be a memorial service at: Cross Way Community Church, 3950 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI. Theodore 'Ted' Paul Pasma, 91, a resident of Beacon Hill at Eastgate in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 6, 2024. Ted was born on July 6, 1932, the youngest son of Fannie and Andrew Pasma. A graduate of Central High School, he received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan and a Masters in Music from the University of Michigan, before beginning a long successful career in music education. In college, he used to hitchhike on Tuesdays and Sundays from Kalamazoo to Grand Rapids to direct a church choir. Ted will most be remembered for his abundant kindness, generosity, faith, and humor. Ted served in the United States Army for two years as an Assistant Chaplain in Germany and Colorado where in 1956, he met and married Ethel Elliott. Directing his first choir at age 19, Ted was destined for 50+ years of choral and vocal music accomplishments. He taught music and choral education at Ottawa Hills High School and Grand Rapids Community College. Other vocal music accomplishments include Grand Rapids Symphonic choir, Calvin College Alumni choir, Immanuel Reformed Church, Christ Church and Thornapple Covenant Church. Beginning in 1964, Ted and Ethel served for eight consecutive summers as Assistant Director at Gull Lake Ministries. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ethel Pasma. Ted is survived by his 5 children, Douglas (Vicki) Pasma, Stephen (Lynda) Pasma, Laurel (Tom deceased) Fowler, Rhonda (Doug) Datema, David (Becky) Pasma. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren, Brenton (Ally) Fowler, Corrine (Austin) Mead, Jenna (Ian) Wood, Chad Pasma, Nathan (Kaitlyn) Datema, Bryce (Hannah) Fowler, Sara (John) Mackall, Kendall (Matt) Winters, Drew Pasma, Tori Fowler, Kate (Josh) Sun, Jessica Pasma and Kaelyn Pasma and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Eunice Raar, sisterin-law Lois Pasma, many nieces and nephews, and an incredibly special friend, Joyce Kok. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Beacon Hill Foundation or Thornapple Covenant Church. The celebration memorial service will be at 11am on Saturday March 2, 2024, at Thornapple Covenant Church, 6595 Cascade Rd SE. Visitation will be at Zaagman Funeral Home, 2800 Burton St. SE, Friday March 1, 2024, from 6pm-8pm. Additional visitation will be Saturday March 2, from 10am-10:45am at Thornapple Covenant Church before the memorial service.

Charles D. “Charlie” Plath Charles David “Charlie” Plath age 72, of Sheridan, Michigan, passed away Monday, February 5, 2023 at Corewell Health-Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. The son of Donald Richard & Helen Elizabeth (Spicer) Plath, he was born on March 19, 1951 in Carson City, Michigan. On March 7, 1970 he married Valerie Kay Moore and together they raised three children and enjoyed nearly 54 years of marriage. A proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Charlie worked for Total Petroleum and other trucking companies for nearly 35 years, finally “retiring” so he could then focus on turning his hobby of woodworking and small construction projects to yet another career. You would be hard pressed to find a finer, more meticulous craftsman. Charlie also worked together with his wife, Valerie, on many projects from home renovations and building their own homes to rescuing and restoring furniture pieces. Charlie’s craftsmanship was well known and highly sought after. He was always the first to lend a helping hand and enjoyed teaching others the many skills he had mastered. In his spare time, Charlie loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed fishing, camping, going for drives, classic car shows and laughing with and loving his grandchildren. Charlie fought ALS with quiet strength and courage. That is also the way he lived his life. He loved his family above all else and worked hard to set the example for his children and grandchildren on how to live a life of substance and joy. In the words of Charlie’s granddaughter – “You are the foundation that our family was built on; strong, loving, patient, and always kind. I will never forget the way that you selflessly loved our family.” He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tommy Plath; and a brother-in-law, Richard Bohen. Surviving are his wife, Valerie Plath of Sheridan; their children, Stacy Bragg, Ken & Hattie Plath, Nate & Edna Plath, grandchildren, JennaKae, Lucas, Trystan, Tavin, Tatym, Olivia, Emmett, Oliver, Owen and Violet; two sisters and three brothers; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Charlie’s life from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Timbers Event Center, 7033 S. Sheridan Road (M-66), Sheridan, Michigan 48884. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and final interment will be in Evergreen Township Cemetery near Sheridan. She was born in Grand Rapids on September 23, 1940 to the late Jack and Anne McCarthy.Arlene was a lifelong resident of East Grand Rapids, graduating in 1958. She worked for J’Poppas and 7-11 and then managed the delivery department at Molesta Floral prior to retiring. She loved East Grand Rapids Pioneer Football, collecting owls, playing Bingo, and riding motorcycles in her younger years.She was survived by her children, Kayleen (Brian) Fischer, Collene Holcomb, Kendell (Shelly) Shangle, JaLean Smith, Jo-Lean Smith (Jeff), and Denise (Russ) Wheeler. He married the love of his life, Lori Hubbard, on Aug. 28, 1970. After graduating from Aquinas College, Jim began his career as a swim coach and science teacher, before moving to IT and working for companies including Texas Instruments, Sun Microsystems and Netscape. When he wasn't at work, Jim could usually be found with a golf club or guitar in his hand. A love of music was a constant in his life. While at Catholic Central High School in the '60s, he and friends formed a folk group that continued to get together to laugh, rehearse and perform, including this August at their class's 60th reunion. Jim also rarely missed a Thursday golf outing with his golfing crew; both the sport and the companionship were so important to him. Jim will be remembered by all who knew him for his warmth, grace, and enjoyment of life. He was a patient and kind soul who could talk with anyone, and could calm the roughest storms. Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his wife, Lori; daughter Sarah (Oscar Palacios) and son Jonathan (Danett) Stewart; grandchildren Connor Stewart and Elena, Christopher, and Lucia Rey Palacios; brother Msgr. Terrence Stewart, and sister Mary Stewart (Greg Reese). He was predeceased by his parents and his grandson Thomas Stewart. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 4, from 6-8 p. m. at the Arsulowicz Brothers East Mortuary, 937 Michigan St. NE, Grand Rapids A Vigil. Service will be held Monday at 7:30 pm at the funeral home . A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Holy Family Church, 425 S. State St. , Sparta. The family will welcome visitors on Tuesday prior to the service from 10-11 a. m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leelanau Conservancy or the Lake Leelanau Lake Association. "

Linda was born on October 25, 1954, in Greenville, the daughter of Frank W. and Lena M. (Graham) Yeasley. Linda graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1974. For many years Linda worked at Electrolux and later at Kalfax. She was a past member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Linda had a big love of family and will be greatly missed. She is loved and survived by her children Christy Lynn( William) Howey and Jason Michael Johnson, both of Hubbardston; her grandchildren, Sierra K. Hamilton, Greyson Johnson, her brother Gary Yeasley and a brother-in-law Larry Braman both of Belding. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joan Braman, and brothers Frank R. Elaine Marie Kamradt, age 61 of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Elaine was born on April 13, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan, and is now reunited with her father and mother, Mitchell and Alice Battel. Elaine is survived by her husband of 29 years, Kevin Kamradt. Elaine and Kevin raised two children, Nathan and Evelyn, who will miss her dearly. Elaine was a perpetually happy, kind and compassionate wife, mother and friend who never missed the opportunity to help others. She was always the nicest and most welcoming person in any room. As all of her family, friends and colleagues know, she was the life of every party and always made those around her feel special and included. She found great joy in being with her family, creating traditions and watching her children grow into the adults they are today. Elaine excelled in all areas of her life, personal, academic and professional, taking great pride in watching her children graduate from her and Kevin's alma mater, the University of Michigan. For more than 3 decades, Elaine grew a loyal network of customers and colleagues at International Paper. Outside of work, you could find Elaine doing what she loved most, playing cribbage and euchre with family, having a glass of wine with friends, or planning her next adventure. Elaine's mission in life was to make those around her feel loved, and she succeeded. Those she left behind will carry on that mission, including her husband Kevin; son Nathan (27); daughter Evelyn (24); siblings Maureen (Ken) Hampton, Michael (Sandi) Battel, David Battel, Patricia (Norman) Hogikyan, Catherine Birkbeck; father and mother in-law Charlie and Sue Kamradt; Kevin's sister Camille (Frank) Peltz; and all of her nieces, extended family and friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 4, from 2-4 and 6-8pm atZaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546).
