Graveside Service will be held 10:00 a. m. Friday, June 24, 2022 in Willow Point Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p. m. on Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Rev. Sonny Smith will officiate. Pallbearers are to include Andrew Ponder, Trevor Armstrong, Shane Stegall, Steven Stegall, Adam Thetford, Tommy "Johnny" Denton, James Armstrong and Patrick Armstrong. Born October 29th, 1943 in Bryan, Texas to Norris Stegall and Jackie (Clayton) Stegall. A graduate of Crosbyton High School, Texas Tech University, Western Michigan University and Johns Hopkins University. He married Patricia Drake in 1969 and together they raised 4 daughters. Jim taught school for 20 years and served in the US Army before returning to Bridgeport to run C&S Dairy. He served as the Wise County representative to the North Texas Work Force Development Council for 27 years. Most recently Jim worked with the Paradise Economic Development Board and the Bridgeport Historical Society. He was a lifelong circus fan and model train enthusiast. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Monette Stegall, and stepfathers Ralph Chivers and Marshall Johnson; his brother, Kelly Stegall and stepbrothers Jim Bob, Bill and Tom Chivers; his daughter Kathleen; and his grandson, Philip Ponder. Jim is lovingly survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia "Pat" Stegall, his daughters Laura Armstrong and husband Trevor of Fort Worth, Mary Stegall of Washington and Nora Ponder and husband Andrew of Houston; his grandchildren, Abigail, Madelynn, Eleanor, Constance, Josephine Ponder, James and Patrick Armstrong, his numerous foster grandchildren; his sister, Nova Reed; his brothers, Mark and Joe Stegall; his sisters-in-law, Beverly Deaton and Gail Drake; and numerous extended family and friends.
