James K. "Jim" Pointer, 86, of rural Marshall, MO, died Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Progress West Hospital in O'Fallon, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a. m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to New Salem Baptist Church or the American Heart Association. Friends may sign the online register book at www. campbell-lewis. com Born June 12, 1936, in Saline County, MO, he was the son of the late Huston Homer Pointer and Katie Margaret Waters Pointer. He was a graduate of Marshall High School. On June 8, 1958, he married Carol Ann Duncan who preceded him in death on July 11, 2010. He lived in Saline County most of his life until moving to O'Fallon in 2010 to live with his daughter Kelly. He was a lifelong farmer and worked part time for USDA. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, served in Missouri Army National Guard and was a softball coach and a supporter of the community. Survivors include one daughter, Kelly Ann Hummel (John Jr. ) of O'Fallon; one son, James K. "Kenny" Pointer Jr. of rural Marshall; one grandson, John Hummel, III (Regan) of New York, NY; one brother, Lloyd Bentley (Rosie) of rural Marshall; one sister, Frances Davis (Bill) of rural Marshall; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by his stepmother, Edna Pointer; eight brothers, Homer, Henry, Joe, Bill, Roy, John and Ted Pointer and Frank Bentley; and one sister, Margaret Farnell.
