"Saluda, SC James Pinson James Larry Pinson, 75, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023, at Lexington Medical Center surrounded by his wife and loved ones. Born in Greenwood County and a son of the late Earl Ray and Irene Wells Pinson, he was the husband of Betty Jo Pinson. Larry was strong in his faith and a true believer of his Lord Jesus. He worked and retired from Monsanto in Greenwood. Known by many as "Sugar Bear", Larry loved his family, friends, and his church family. Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Pinson, two sons, Jimmy Pinson of Greenwood, Tony Vereen of Saluda, three daughters, Lynn Weathers of Saluda, Pam Shaw (Thomas) of Saluda, and Angie Duran (Aaron) of Hodges, a brother, Freddie Pinson (Mary) of Piedmont, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Pinson was preceded in death by a brother, Carlisle Ray "Penny" Pinson and a sister, Kathy Bouldin. A Memorial service will be held at 3 p. m. , Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Celebration Church with Rev. Hubie Tharp, Rev. Jerry Brunson and Rev. Joseph Hallman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. "

"Dora Helen Shealy Connelly, 93, passed away December 1, 2023, at her home. Born in Newberry County and a daughter of the late Marion Horace Shealy and Toy Chapman Shealy, she was the wife of the late Alfred Brooks Connelly. Mrs. Connelly was a member of Nazareth United Methodist Church. Alongside her husband, she was the owner of Connelly Farms, where many memories were made in the strawberry patch by visitors. Mrs. Connelly thoroughly enjoyed working in her garden and yard, tending to her flowers, as well as quilting and crocheting. Survivors are her son, Sammy Connelly (Aileen) of Batesburg; grandchildren, Joshua Brooks Connelly (Alexys) of Buffalo, SC and Anna Marie Connelly of Greenwood; step-grandchildren, Meredith Miller Rikard (Brandon) of Saluda, Jocelyn Miller Snider (David) of Gilbert, Neysa Miller Quattlebaum (Fred) of Batesburg, Robert Hall Miller (Amber) of Leesville and Keegan Beron Miller (Charley Ann) of Columbia; and twelve step great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Rosa Lee Davis, Lawrence Shealy, Lena Black, Kelly Shealy, and Billy Shealy; and a step great-granddaughter, Ruby Louise Snider. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Nazareth United Methodist Church Cemetery. Saluda, SC: Joann Robinson Etheredge, 72, of 1512 Hunters Lane, the wife of Willie Lee Etheredge, departed this life on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Lexington Medical Center. She was born in Saluda County, SC, September 21, 1951, daughter of the late Joe Ben and Henrietta Smith Robinson. She received her education Batesburg School System. At an early age, she joined Ridge Branch Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Philippi Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Saluda School District where she worked in Dietary Department as a cook at Hollywood School for a number years. She leaves to cherish her memory; her devoted husband, Willie Lee Etheredge of the home; three sons, Willie J. Etheredge of Batesburg, SC, Michael Etheredge of Saluda, SC and Tyrone Etheredge of Greenwood, SC; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brothers, Joel Robinson of Gaston, SC and Reverend Theodore Robinson of Batesburg, SC; sisters, Teresa Robinson of Lexington, SC and Michelle Robinson of Batesburg, SC; sister-in-law, Shirley Gantt of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends. A Celebration of Life will be 12 p. m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Philippi Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Rabb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. "Saluda, SC Eleanor Metts Eleanor Palmer Metts (90), widow of Winford Oneal Metts, passed away peacefully November 16, 2023 at Saluda Nursing Center. Eleanor was a graduate of Hollywood High School and after raising her family, graduated from Piedmont Technical College School of Practical Nursing. She then worked at Saluda Nursing Center until her retirement. Eleanor\u0027s greatest pleasures were reading, preparing holiday meals for her family, and helping her best friend and husband of 68 years with home and church projects. She is survived by her daughters, Marlene Metts and Elizabeth White (Wayne), her daughter-in-law, Ginny Metts, son-in-law, Richard Blanset, 8 grandchildren: Jessica Faulkner (Chris), Jonathan Metts (Mary), Erin Talbert (Harvey), Steven Metts (Jessica), Michael White (Katie), Lauren Miller (Drew) Christen Hall and Meagan Johnson (Chris), 15 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, George Ray Metts, sister-in-law, Glenda Metts and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Karen Metts Blanset and son Layne Metts, and great-grandchild, John-Michael Hall. She was the last living member of her immediate family and preceded in death by her parents, David Shelton Palmer, Sr and Farrah Ellen Palmer, two sisters, Edith Nichols and Sallie Rinehart, and six brothers, Cromer, Homer(infant), Jake, Roy, Joe and David Palmer Jr. Also preceding in death were much loved extended family members, Dorothy Metts, Mildred Perry, Mollie Morgan, Robert Metts and Barbara Palmer. The family expresses their deep-felt gratitude to her at home sitters, Dory Whittle, Sylvia Helms, Yvonne Taylor, Barbara Jones, Marie DeLoache and Susan Frye for allowing her to remain at home as long as physically possible. The family also expresses their sincere gratitude to Dr. Bill Sawyer, the staff of Saluda South Family Practice and the staff of Saluda Nursing Home. "Saluda, SC James Roberts, Sr. James Wallace Roberts, Sr. , 90 passed away November 5, 2023, at Saluda Nursing Center. Born in Chester County and a son of the late Marion Douglas Roberts and Anges Elizabeth Sanders Roberts, he was the husband of Lois Mae Martin Roberts. Through the years, Mr. Roberts served as a Southern Baptist pastor at multiple churches in North Carolina and South Carolina and was also a Chaplain and Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army. He ultimately retired from the military and pastoring and settled in Saluda County seeking to live his retirement years farming. He was a graduate of Campbell University (NC) and North Carolina State University, and he received a Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He loved his family deeply and served his congregations faithfully. He enjoyed antiques, classic cars, golf, and was an avid NC State Wolfpack Fan! Most recently he was a member of Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Lois Mae Martin Roberts of Raleigh, NC, his three sons, James Wallace "Jimmy" Roberts, Jr. of Saluda, Timothy Douglas "Tim" Roberts (Dawn Edmondson Roberts) of Raleigh, NC, and David Martin "Dave" Roberts (Lorraine Williams Roberts) of Ocala, FL, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by four brothers, Marion Roberts, Jr. , Harold Roberts, Lee Roberts and Dick Roberts, and a sister, Norma Roberts. A graveside service will be held 11 a. m. , Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church with Rev. David Lyda officiating.
