Emily Alice Evenson

Oct 27, 1932 - Dec 26, 2023

location-icon

Menomonie, WI

"Emily “Alice” Evenson, age 91, of Menomonie, WI passed away peacefully at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 surrounded by her family. Alice was born on October 27, 1932 in Menomonie, WI, the daughter of Earl and Emma (Maves) Markham. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Ideal Country School, St. Joe’s Catholic school, and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1950. Alice was united in marriage to Milton O. Evenson on June 29, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Menomonie. Alice and Milt raised their six children on a farm in rural Menomonie. Alice was a homemaker, occasionally working at the Kernel Restaurant when her children were small. She later worked at Hattie Maxwell’s, The Knapp House, and DET (Disabled \u0026amp; Elderly Transportation). She also sold Avon for many years, being her own best customer! Alice was very involved with the Tramway Homemakers Club, Ideal 4-H Club and her Church Circle. She loved attending her children’s activities, and never missed a softball game, musical or drama event. The Dunn County Fair was a busy time for the family as Alice helped her children with projects from sewing to showing animals and entering baked goods. When Milt and Alice were no longer able to take care of the family farm, they moved to a home next to their daughter Nancy in Menomonie Township, where they resided until Milt’s passing in 2010. Several years later Alice moved to an apartment on 9th street, where she lived by herself until nearly 90 years of age. The last year and a half of her life, she was lovingly cared for by the staff at Neighbors of Dunn County. Alice was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where she faithfully attended mass. She prayed the Rosary daily, and attended mass virtually when she wasn’t able to attend in person later in life. Alice had many interests, but especially loved reading (sometimes a book a day), playing cards and bingo, and enjoying the occasional overnight trips to several casinos. This allowed her to reconnect with friends as travel mates. Alice spent many hours mixing up baked goods and was especially known for her oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, which she was still baking at nearly 90 years of age. She was known to several of her great-grandchildren as “Grandma Cookie”. Alice loved her family and was always overjoyed with the birth of a new baby. She loved sending special cards and never missed a birthday or an anniversary. Alice was our “family lifeline”. She was our “go to” person for family information, past or present. She will be dearly missed
