Pio Venditti

Pio Venditti

Age - 90

November 27, 2023

ROTTERDAM - Pio 'Pete' Venditti, 90, of Rotterdam, died peacefully on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing Home after a short illness. Pete was born in Carnello, Italy on October 23, 1933, the second born son of the late Valentino and Adele (Polsinelli) Venditti. He came to the United States in 1935 and spent his youth in Schenectady's 'Goose Hill' neighborhood, attending city schools and graduating from Nott Terrace in 1952. Soon after graduating he joined the US Navy, spending the bulk of his four years in Washington, D. C. Upon his honorable discharge, Pete attended HVCC and graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1961 with a degree in education. Two years prior to his graduation, Pete married Patricia Vendetti and together they had four children, whom they raised in Rotterdam. Pete began his teaching career at Phillip Livingston in Albany and then continued at Bethlehem Central teaching Industrial Arts. He was loved by many of his students and coworkers, and established life-long friendships with both that continued after his retirement in 1989. He was well-versed in many of the construction trades and worked summers as an electrician during the construction of the South Mall in Albany, a project he was very proud of. Upon his retirement, he became a caretaker for his elderly parents until their passing, and then went on to do many handyman/remodeling projects well into his 80's. Pete was a generous man, always there to help family, neighbors, and even acquaintances without hesitation. Pete was a tremendous family man and enjoyed countless get-togethers with his loved ones. Throughout the years, Pete could always be found completing the latest project at any of his children's homes, as long as food was involved! He also looked forward to the Friday dinners with his family at his home, where he enjoyed making and sharing his homemade rolls. Pete and Pat traveled frequently including trips to Florida to visit family, many trips to Italy and one to England, and looked forward to the annual vacations with extended family to Rhode Island where his antics and sarcasm would be part of the entertainment. Pete was a faithful communicant of both St. Gabriel's parish in Rotterdam and St. Madeleine Sophie parish in Guilderland. Pete was predeceased by his parents Valentino and Adele Venditti, in-laws James and Catherine Vendetti, granddaughter Sarah Tegiacchi, brother Claude (Rose) Venditti, sister Mary (George) Rayner, and brother-in-law James (JoAnn) Vendetti. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia and their beloved children, Donna Venditti (Diane Monteverde), Lisa (Robert) Near, Daniel (Annette) Venditti, and Linda (Thomas) Tegiacchi. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle Tegiacchi (Mike Guardino), Rachel Tegiacchi (Jack Flood), Rebecca Tegiacchi, Carina (Daniel) Rawley, and Isabella Favale. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at Our Lady of Mercy and The Community Hospice for the care provided in his last days. Even during some of the tougher days, Pete's humor and knack for storytelling was evident to family, staff, and visitors. Arrangements will be provided by DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home in Rotterdam. At Pete's request, there will be no viewing. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Road, Schenectady, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 10:30AM.
