"Funeral services for James "Jimmy" Oltmann, 78 of Serbin, are scheduled for 10:00 a. m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. The service will be live streamed on the St. Paul Lutheran Church website. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 7:00 a. m. until 8:00 p. m. and on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 7:00 a. m. until 8:00 a. m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Wednesday evening from 4:00 p. m. until 6:00 p. m. James Ray Oltmann was born in San Francisco, California on November 21, 1944 to Ben and Ruby (Patschke) Oltmann. He was baptized on January 10, 1945 in San Francisco by Rev. F. A. Jacobson. Jimmy was confirmed on March 30, 1958 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas by Rev. Arthur Arndt. His confirmation verse was Colossians 3:2, "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. " On July 22, 1967, he was united in marriage to Janet Dunk at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, Texas by Rev. H. O. Hartfield. Jimmy received his Honorable Discharge from the Army National Guard on August 11, 1971 having obtained the rank of Sergeant. He worked numerous construction jobs before establishing a fence building business. He retired from the Lee County Water Supply Corporation as a field supervisor after 20 years. Jimmy was a founding member of the South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department and served as fire chief for 5 years. He served on the Lee Memorial Hospital Board and the Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District. As an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, he served on numerous boards and sang in the choir for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and working with this tractor. He was a hands-on guy who could often be found fixing things and working on projects. Jimmy passed away the evening of Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Ruby Oltmann; his parents-in-law. Henry and Ruby Dunk, and his sister-in-law, Joyce Bise. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Janet Oltmann of Serbin; his three sons, Curtis Oltmann \u0026amp; his wife, Carie of Serbin, Clint Oltmann \u0026amp; his wife, Stacey of Northrup, and Colby Oltmann of Northrup; five grandchildren, Kaleb, Kassi, and Kalisa Oltmann of Serbin and Everlee and Hallee Oltmann of Northrup; two sisters, Judy Kalbas \u0026amp; her husband, Larry of Paige and Lois Kalbas \u0026amp; her husband, John of Paige; two brothers-in-law, Jerrell Dunk \u0026amp; his wife, Oranell of Giddings and Troy Bise of Serbin, as well as several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Kalbas, Joseph Kalbas, Jordan Kalbas, Seth Kalbas, Jarrett Bise, and Kaleb Oltmann. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the charity of one's choice.
