Graveside Services for Mr. James Louie Netherland, 97, of Monroe, LA, will be 11:30 AM Monday, October 9, 2023, at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Ty Shirey officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe. Mr. Netherland was born June 15, 1926 and passed away on October 6, 2023. He served his country in 79th Infantry division of the United States Army. Mr. Netherland was an air conditioning repairman by trade. He enjoyed reading western books and watching westerns. In his younger days, he was an avid fisherman and rabbit hunter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Etta Netherland; daughter, Darla Netherland; brother and sister-in-law, Othel and Mary Lee Netherland; sister, Yvonne Smith; son-in-law, Jim Cook; nephews, Kenneth Netherland, Ronnie Netherland, Jeff Netherland, and Steve Smith; and daughter-in-law, Louise Netherland. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Moos Netherland; eight children, Belinda Beckley, Dewayne Netherland, Carey Netherland and wife Loretta, Dewana Richardson and husband Gary, Yvonne Cook, Kevin Roberts, Jamie Robinson and husband Steve; 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; favorite niece, Maryann Netherland Cox and a favorite nephew, Billy Ray Netherland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. Pallbearers will be Steven Robinson, Sagen Robinson, Tres Lowery, Billy Netherland, and Morris Cox Jr. The family would like to extend a special thank you the staff of Ouachita Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Ascend Hospice. Memorials may be made to Chennault Aviation & Military Museum. Visitation will be 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday, October 9, 2023, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe.

Her services will be held at Lea Joyner Memorial Methodist Church, 4390 Old Sterlington Rd. , Monroe, LA, on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 3:00 P. M, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Visitation will be from 2:00 P. M. until 3:00 P. M. at the church prior to the service. Pastor Ben McGehee and Rev. Betty Swanson will officiate. Interment will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Maxine Cottingham, and the love of her life, her son, Terry Michael Cannon. She is survived by her husband, Danny Mills; stepchildren, Heath Mills and wife Jennifer, and Heather Mills; grandchildren, Brennan Mills, Bailey Mills, Liam Mills and Lauren Telano; brother, Rusty Cottingham and wife Diane; niece, Kelley Wood (Trey); nephew, Kris Cottingham (Christianne); great nieces, Hunter Elise Bryan, Addie Wood and Violet Cottingham; great nephews, Colby Wood (Carlee), Eli Bryan and Jagger Doucet; and her beloved dog, Toby; as well as many beloved cousins and friends. Barbara’s entire career was spent in the insurance industry. Her personality was bigger than life and she never met a stranger. Betty was born March 27, 1932 to Cecil and Ovie Golden in Downsville. She met her Jesus on December 7, 2023 in Ruston surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong member of Downsville Baptist Church where she faithfully served in many roles, including treasurer, WMU Director, Pianist, Church Hostess, Church Secretary, tirelessly preparing meals on Wednesday night for the children and youth as well as a dedicated prayer warrior. She saw a need in the community of a ministry to provide food and clothing for people in need, thus Helping Hands Ministry was founded. She worked each week for 34 years at Helping Hands up until her death. She was active in many other areas, including serving on the Downsville Cemetery Committee and Cattleman's Association. She was a homemaker but she also, along with her husband, ran the family cattle and poultry farm. She loved her family and loved family gatherings. She attended every event possible that her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren were involved in. Her family brought her joy and you knew she loved each member of her family deeply. Betty is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 49 years, Robert Taylor Aswell. She is survived by her children, Harold (Laurie) Aswell of Baton Rouge, Tommy (Sharra) Aswell, Cathy (Randy) Butler and John (Serena) Aswell all of Downsville; 9 grand-children, Lauren Aswell, Anna Aswell (fiancee Joshua Horton), Andrew (Erin) Aswell, Amy (Lane) Coleman, Christopher (Ashley) Butler, Michael (Becca) Butler, Kimberly (Jonathan) King, Jordan Aswell (fiancee Cameron Zaricor), and Morgan Aswell; 9 great-grandchildren, Brooks Aswell, Jacob Coleman, Makenzie Coleman, Lucas Coleman, Mason Coleman, Lucy Butler, Ben Butler, Ella Jane Butler, Collin King and very special great-grandchild Nick. Irse Jane "Janie" Salinas, a beloved member of the West Monroe community, passed away on December 7, 2023. She was born on August 18, 1944, in Orange, TX. With a kind heart, Janie touched the lives of all who knew her. Janie dedicated herself to her career at KTVE, where she worked in the traffic department for an impressive fifteen years. Her commitment to her work and her dedication to ensuring the smooth flow of information earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Lorena Smith; her husband, Gus Salinas Jr. ; her son, James Salinas; and her sister, Jeanette Smith. While we mourn the loss of Janie, let us also remember the joy she brought into our lives. Her laughter, kindness, and welcoming nature will forever be engraved in our hearts. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire those who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Misty Stokes and Brandy Meredith and her husband, Steven; her grandchildren, Cameron Salinas, Dustin Salinas and his wife, Paige, Steven Meredith Jr. and his wife, Jessica, Baylea Meredith Pohlman and wife, Emily, Mallory Meredith and wife, Abbigail, and Brittany Stokes; her bonus grandkids, Pacey Bradberry and Skylar Bradberry; her great-grandchildren Jackson Meredith and Ellie Meredith; lots of fur babies, Leia, Zoey, Gus, and Gourdon; and numerous other relatives and friends. In her free time, Janie indulged in her favorite hobbies and interests. Crafting and making jewelry allowed her creative side to flourish, while playing games on her iPad provided her with hours of entertainment. Janie had a fondness for bread and sweets, savoring each bite. However, it was the moments spent with loved ones that brought her the utmost happiness. Janie was proud to be the previous owner of the "Original" West Monroe Coney Island alongside her husband, Gus Jr. Her dedication and hard work made the restaurant a beloved local institution. Janie brought joy to countless customers. A visitation to honor the memory of Janie will take place on December 11, 2023, from 5:00 P. M. to 7:00 P. M. at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe located at 300 McMillan Road, West Monroe, LA 71291. As we say our final goodbyes, let us celebrate the life of Irse Jane Salinas. Elzatter was born September 4, 1956, to the lovely late Lela Mae Brass and the late Jim Mathis. She was baptized under the leadership of L. M. Major at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Wisner, Louisiana. Later in years, she moved her membership to the Greater Free Gift. Elzatter started at the Haring Pride Catfish, where she worked for over twenty years. She later moved to Monroe, Louisiana, and worked over 20 years at The Kitchen Rest after she took care of a sweetie, the late Verdell Moore. She married Willie Tyler. Elzatter was preceded in death by her mother, Lela Mae Brass; father, Jim Mathis; husband, Willie Tyler; brothers, Jessie Brass, Uzia Atkins, Hemp Atkins, Thomas Langston, and Charles Williams; sisters, Josephine Brass, Mattie Atkins, and Janie Mathis; lovely son-in-law, James Shaw; and a special friend, Clyde Hughes.
