Mary Don Hultman, 91 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Lutheran Church of the Cross with Rev. David Deem officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p. m. to 2:00 p. m. Mary Don was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross. She was a librarian at the Metropolis Public Library, then worked for Dr. Miller for many years before retiring. Mary Don enjoyed reading and quilting and had formerly been involved with the Dorcas quilters group at church. Mary Don is survived by her children, Toni Tish and husband Mike of Decatur, IL and Todd Hille of Metropolis; four grandchildren, Scott Windhorst (Colleen), Michelle Haskell (Tom), Jessica Hall, and Drew Hille (Emily); three great grandchildren, Mallory Haskell, Nash Hall and Sarah Windhorst; two sisters, Shirley Grogan of California and Wanda Rybolt of Indiana; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Edna Averitt; 7 brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care they provided to Mary Don during her stay. Phyllis Reynolds, 84 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Massac Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 20, 2023 at the Zion Evangelical Church with Pastor David Krueger and Pastor Jim Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery. Phyllis was the cook at Franklin Elementary School for 27 years and a lifetime member of Zion Church. She enjoyed quilting and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. She was a loving and godly wife, mom, grandma, sister and aunt who will be missed. Phyllis is survived by her sons, Dwight Reynolds and Tim Reynolds and wife Terri Jo; two grandchildren, Courtney Bremer and husband Jason and Jordan Reynolds; two great grandchildren, Reed Bremer and Leighton Bremer; one sister, Wilma Ford; one brother, Kenneth Teckenbrock; many nieces and nephews. James M. Barnett, age 95 years, passed away Friday evening, November 3, 2023, at 7:45 PM at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, Illinois. Prior to his residency at Southgate, Myrl lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah & Jimmy Sullins, near Vienna from January 2019 - December 2022. He was a former resident of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Myrl, as he was known to his family and friends, was born December 6, 1927 in Holcut, Tishomingo County, Mississippi to the Jesse J. Barnett and the Ruby A. Crane Barnett. Myrl was united in marriage to Myra D. Strall on August 11, 1973. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2019. Myrl is survived by: his son - Danny Barnett (Kathleen) of Spring Grove, IL; his daughter - Deborah Sullins (Jimmy) of Vienna, IL; grandchildren - Lisa Parker (Paul) of Fox Lake, IL, Kelley Brooks (Adam) of Cary, IL, and Samantha Duczak (Jeff) of Kenosha, WI; great grandchildren - Sydney Varner of Chicago, IL, Madeline Parker of Chicago, IL, Miles Brooks of Cary, IL, Marlow Brooks of Cary, IL, Maggie Duczak of Kenosha, WI, and Violet Duczak of Kenosha, WI; 3 sisters - Pat Pounders (Gayre), Pam Owen (Bill), and Donna Pitts (Halbert); 2 brothers-in-law - Bobby Moon (Billy Sue) and Billy Moon (Pam); 1 sister-in-law - Cheryl Shumay (Wayne) along with a host of many nieces, nephews, and loved ones. In addition to his parents and wife, Myrl was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey J. Barnett, three sisters - Dorothy Grimes, Shirley Manasco, Ann Killingsworth; a brother - Corky Barnett; and a nephew by marriage, Chad Moon. Myrl enjoyed the great outdoors/fishing and most of all his family and the large family gatherings each year on Smith Lake. This was always a very happy time for him when everyone came together in family spirit and love. Myrl was employed as an assembler by American Motors Corporation in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He retired from that business. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 12 Noon to 1 PM at Kilgore Green Funeral Home in Jasper, Alabama. Services will follow at 1 PM. Pastor Andy Barnett will officiate. All relatives and friends are welcome to join the family at the eternal resting place of James "Myrl" Barnett and his beloved wife, Myra D. Barnett. Gale "Whitey" Hunerkoch, age 85 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 5:19 am on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A funeral service with military rites will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Rev. David Deem officiating. Gale was born on September 19, 1938 in Massac County, IL, to Harold and Evelyn (Dummeier) Hunerkoch. He married Ellen "Corky" Padalik on August 13, 1965. Gale was a dedicated family man always working hard to provided for his family. He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #306 in Metropolis and served for many years on the honor guard providing military honors to his comrades. Gale is survived by his children, Chrissy Mayer (Mindy), Valerie Hunerkoch, Lori Hunerkoch (Delores Powell), and Angie Hunerkoch; grandchildren, Jessica Buurman (Rich), Timothy Dorobiala, Noel Rutar, Shelby Ashley (Dalton), Laisha Mayer, Zion Mayer, Chris Powell, and Jon Powell; great grandchildren, Meagan, Stokelyn, Lidia, and J. J. ; sister, Margie Obermark; brother, Earl Hunerkoch (Dixie); many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Gale was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Alvin Horstman; wife of 57 years, Ellen "Corky" Hunerkoch; brother, Wayne Hunerkoch.
