"North Greenbush- James W. Murphy, 90 passed into eternal life on May 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was the son of Charles A. and Janet B. Murphy of Cohoes. Jim was predeceased by his wife Mary (Knapp) after 63 years of marriage. He is survived by his son James E. Murphy (Kim) of East Greenbush, daughters Dolores Murphy-Demis (Mike Hanley) of Castleton-On-Hudson and Ann Taylor (Mike Cristo) of East Greenbush. Jim is also survived by his beloved grandson Ryan J. Murphy (Shannon) of Castleton-On-Hudson. Jim is further survived by his siblings Patricia Stack of Watervliet, Kathleen Fischer of Guilderland, and Stephen Murphy (Gayle) of Rochester. Jim is also the proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jim was a graduate of Albany High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corp and was "Post Honor Platoon\u0027\u0027 member in July of 1952 at Paris Island, South Carolina. Jim served in the Korean War and received the U. N. Service Medal Korea, National Service Defense Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Sharpshooter Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Jim was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon returning from Korea, he attended Siena College and graduated in 1958 with a BS in Accounting. Jim worked briefly with Bendix Aviation in New Jersey, then returned to Albany to work for the U. S. Treasury Department as an Internal Revenue Agent for over 30 years. After retiring from the IRS, Jim then worked for the NYS Senate as Sergeant-at-Arms. Jim was Past Commander for the American Legion Post 1750. Jim's main passion was his love for family and a close second was his love for his dogs. Jim was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Notre Dame College sports. He spoke fondly of his memories of going to Yankee games with his parents in the late 30's and 40's. In the late 70's and 90's, Jim was proud to be able to take his children Jim and Dolores to the World Series. Jim was a 25-year season ticket holder for Siena basketball and enjoyed taking family and friends to the games. Jim treasured his special relationship with his grandson, Ryan, and never missed an opportunity to show his love and support. Jim appreciated his special friendships with Gary Letko from the American Legion Post 1750, and Skip Curtis and Al Defranzo from the Senate. Jim's Funeral service will be Friday, May 12,2023 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave. (Father John Bradley Way), Albany NY 12206 at 10:30 am where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie, NY immediately following the Mass.
