James Moorefield Obituary

James Lacy Moorefield, Jr. "Jimmy," 77, of Greensboro, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, May 12, 2023 at George Brothers Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park. Jimmy was born in Guilford County, NC to the late James, Sr. and Melba Moorefield. He served his nation in the United States Marines for 6 years. He was a long-time employee of the City of Greensboro Water Resources Department where he worked for over 50 years. He began his career as a water plant operator and finished as the water supply manager. Mr. Moorefield was a member of Willomore Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and with North Carolina Baptist Men. James was an avid history buff, and he enjoyed many visits to historical sites. He collected coins, was a fan of NASCAR, and loved trips to Sunset Beach, NC. He was a fan of all westerns, especially Gunsmoke. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Fields. Mr. Moorefield is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Moorefield; daughter, Heather Moorefield-Lang and husband Jeff; brother, David Moorefield and wife Sally; brother-in-law, Charlie Fields; also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Authoracare Collective or to Wounded Warrior Project.
