James Montgomery Obituary

MONTGOMERY, James Edward, age 94, of Galax, Virginia passed away at Waddell Nursing and Rehab on Saturday October 7, 2023. James was born on June 19, 1929 in Abingdon, VA to the late R. Elmer and Thelma Marshall Montgomery of Hillsville, VA. He was also preceded in death by his niece Shiraine Browning. Montgomery was a World II and Korean veteran. He was retired from 22 years US Navy and 16 years Federal Service. He is survived by one daughter Rose Marie Duff of Leonardtown, MD and one son and daughter-in-law Michael James and Christi Ann Montgomery of Kernersville, NC; two grandsons Marc Edward Duff and James Edward Montgomery II, one granddaughter Mikaela Ann Montgomery; two great grandsons Joseph Tyler Duff and Carson Levi Packer, three great granddaughters Darian Alexis Duff, Carly Duff, and Selena Montgomery; brother and sister-in-law Robert E. and Shirley Montgomery. Funeral services will be held at the Woodlawn United Methodist Church on Wednesday October 11, 2023 at 2:00pm with Rev. Dina Clower officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military rites performed by VFW Post 1115 of Hillsville, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
