Tony McGiboneyJune 13, 1958 - September 8, 2023James Anthony (Tony) McGiboney gained his wings on September 8, 2023, at his home in Covington, GA. He was 65 years young. He was born and raised in Covington by Jack and Lousie McGiboney. In 1976, Tony enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he would spend the next 4 years. People who know Tony will say they almost never saw him where he was not wearing a U. S. Navy ball cap. He was very proud to have served and loved his country. While enlisted he met his future wife, Carol Ann Finley. In 1981 he married his loving wife Carol Ann McGiboney of 42 years. They were married during Carol Ann's senior year and never looked back. Shortly after marriage he began his lifelong journey of fatherhood. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his 3 children TJ McGiboney, Tonya McGiboney, and Travis (Amanda) McGiboney of Covington. He had 5 grandchildren that he loved beyond measure: Aidan McGiboney, Eva McGiboney, Brooklynn Amerson, Zion Cook, and Cade McGiboney. He was also a loving brother to his surviving sister Debra McGiboney Griffith (Rich) of Jacksonville, FL. Brother-in-law Quinn Hopkins of Smryna, and father-in-law Fred Hopkins of Covington. Tony spent most of his working life managing a warehouse for Maxell for 23 years before moving on to a couple other companies to eventually retiring in 2017. When his only daughter started playing softball, he spent some of his spare time either coaching her or cheering her on from the bleachers. One of his favorite past times was playing a round of golf. He shared his love of golf with both of his boys and he never missed any of their high school matches. After retiring, Tony loved spending his mornings sitting on his front porch drinking his coffee and watching the hummingbirds and all the other wildlife. He always said his true happy place would be a mile up the side of a mountain in a log cabin. He loved his 3 children dearly, but nothing compares to the love he had for all his grandchildren. For the longest his "bestest buddy" was Aidan McGiboney for 15 years before he was bombarded by 4 more grandchildren that he would come to love dearly. A celebration of life service will be held September 14, 2023, at Love Joy United Methodist Church (12835 Hwy 36, Covington 30014) with Pastor Gill Gainer officiating. Visitation will be from 4pm-5pm and service to follow. Friends may send flowers to the church or donations to be made to Love Joy United Methodist Church in his honor.
