"Family and friends of James \u0026quot;Jim\u0026quot; Ervin Manville, 80 years old, are mourning his passing on October 5, 2023. Jim was brought into this life on April 23, 1943, in Munising, Michigan. He dedicated thirty-plus years to the Michigan Army National Guard and the State of Michigan through employment at Newberry Regional Mental Health Center. After the closure of the center, Jim retired and enjoyed time with his family, hunting, gardening, beekeeping, and time spent on the \u0026quot;farm. \u0026quot; Jim is survived by his wife, Katherine; sons, Ron and Alan (Andrea); stepdaughters, Yvonne and Josette; brothers, Daniel and David (Terri); five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lu and \u0026quot;Buck\u0026quot; Manville; sisters. Pauline (Junior) Huffman and Patty Ann Ames; brother, Jack (Cindy) Manville, and stepdaughter, Yvette Rousseau. The family would like to thank Dr. R. Rao and the staff at Gibson Family Health Center as well as the staff of Northwoods Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care. A special thanks goes to Bob and Gladys Rigdon, who selflessly gave their time to assist in Jim\u0027s care. Per Jim\u0027s wishes, his remains are being cremated, and a memorial service for Jim will be held in the future. "Andrew "Andy" Brian Bailey, age 51, of Hessel, Michigan, passed away on October 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on August 3, 1972, to Kenneth and Inez (McCoy) Bailey. From an early age, Andy embodied the values of hard work, honesty, and respect for others. These principles shaped his character and guided him throughout his life. He had many accomplishments including receiving a Refrigeration License through Delta College, earning an Electrical Journeyman's License, Master License, and a Contractor License, as well as owned and operated his own electrical contracting business. He married Debbie Milbrandt and had two beautiful and smart children and built his dream house with his dad. . . . He was not only a hard worker but always willing to help and give back to his family, friends, and his community. He would literally have given anyone the shirt off his back. Even after death he was an organ donor saving several lives. Andy was also a dedicated husband and father who provided unwavering support, always striving to ensure they had the best in life. His sacrifices were a reflection of his boundless love for his family, and his presence will be deeply missed. Andy had a deep connection with nature, finding peace and joy in the beauty of the outdoors. He loved being in the woods either hunting, cutting wood, four wheeling, fishing at remote lakes, and just hanging out with Maggie, Copper, and Bella (his fur babies). Andy is survived by his wife of 22 years, Debbie Bailey; son, Drew Bailey; daughter, Brooke Bailey; parents, Kenneth and Inez Bailey of Hessel; sisters, Karen (Roland) Lipponen of Brimley, Michigan, and April (Edward) Olson of Moran, Michigan; nephews, Jeff Bailey, Arron Bailey, Hunter Lipponen, and Caleb Lipponen; in laws, Donna (Penny) Milbrandt of Hemlock, Michigan and Clifford (Ruth) Milbrandt of Hemlock. John Leblanc

"John Steven LeBlanc, 67, began his journey to the spirit world on October 28, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan. He was the seventh of eleven children born to Arthur "Brother" LeBlanc and Marvine "Beanie" (Teeple) LeBlanc on June 14, 1956, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. John resided in the AFC home - Elliott House in St. Ignace, Michigan since 2013 and he has been under the love and care of his friend and special Angel, Kathy Peterson, and her family (Corey, Chelsea and John Ross) since 1991. There are no words to express the love and gratitude the LeBlanc family has for these terrific people. For those who knew John, they know of his infectious smile, voracious and eager appetite for home cooking and delight whenever he was able to visit with family and friends. John was especially good at conjuring up an old tune or jingle and finding humor and laughter in a shared story or memory. John was a proud member of the Bay Mills Indian Community, and he cherished those moments when he would stop in for a visit or an extended stay. John leaves behind many that loved him, especially his family at the Elliott House, Meagan Wiartalla and her group of saints, Kathy, Lisa, Mary, Matt, Natasha, Sherri and Tiffany. John also leaves behind siblings, Jeanette LeBlanc of Brimley, Michael (Jeanette) LeBlanc of Bay Mills, Matthew (Margaret) LeBlanc of Bay Mills, Kelly Bedell of Bay Mills and Howard LeBlanc of Bay Mills; and sister-in-law Kathleen LeBlanc of Bay Mills. Many nephews, including, Joseph LeBlanc and Richard (Shelly Deuman-LeBlanc) LeBlanc of Bay Mills, Andrew (Michelle) LeBlanc of Bay Mills, Lance Teeple of Sault Ste. Marie, Jason (Latara) LeBlanc of Bay Mills, Daniel LeBlanc of Sault, MI, Leonard LeBlanc (Loretta Trudeau) of Bay Mills, Trevor LeBlanc (Ashley Kreiser) of Bay Mills and a niece, Allison LeBlanc of Brimley, including several great nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Art and Marvine, siblings, Gale, Lisa, Paul, Andrew and Arthur and sister-in-law Jean Boyer and brother-in-law Robin Bedell both of Bay Mills. Funeral services will be held at the Bay Mills Cultural Center on Wednesday, November 1st with viewing at 10am, pipe ceremony at 11:00am with a luncheon to follow. "Otto Keith Erickson, age 88, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on October 27, 2023, at home. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie on November 27, 1934, to parents Otto William and Flora Bell (Mitchell) Erickson. Keith grew up on the west side of Sault Ste. Marie graduated with the class of 1953 from Sault High School. He enlisted with the United States Coast Guard following graduation. He married his high school sweetheart, Joanne (Nash) shortly before his discharge. The couple started their family and Keith went to work for Northern Electric and then later Soo Coin before starting his own business, Erickson Appliance \u0026amp; Furniture Center For the next fifty-two years, Keith operated the business with the help of Joanne and his sons before passing the torch to his son, Thomas, to continue the family business. Keith was an active member of the Brimley Baptist Church and served as a past Deacon. He was dedicated to his faith and Joanne and he often spent time in their church. Keith was an incredibly hardworking man and paved a legacy for himself. He will lovingly be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to always have a good time He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be greatly missed. Keith is survived by his sons, David (Jeri Lee) Erickson, Donald (Kelly) Erickson, and Thomas (Becky) Erickson; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Beer, as well as many nieces and nephews. "Betty Jean (Cryderman) Tominac, age 88, of Goetzville, Michigan, died at Hearthside Assisted Living in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on October 25, 2023. She was born in Dafter, Michigan, on November 16, 1934, to Basil Edmund and Mary Margaret (McLean) Cryderman. Betty grew up in Dafter with her seven siblings. She attended Sault High School and graduated with the class of 1953 She married John Emil Tominac on August 27, 1955, at the St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Goetzville, and they settled in Raber, Michigan, to start their family. Betty worked as a housekeeper cleaning cabins around the UP and also did waitressing at the Village Inn Restaurant in Pickford, Michigan, before becoming a full-time caregiver for John. Betty was a member of the Raber AMVETS Auxiliary in Raber, Michigan. Betty was known for her caring and hardworking personality. She loved creating beautiful things and enjoyed quilting and sewing, always sewing all the kids' clothes when they were young. She also enjoyed playing bingo, line dancing, and baking delicious pies, especially her lemon pies. Betty is survived by her daughters, Karen (Kevin) Ledy of Pataskala, Ohio, and Marie (Mike) Fierek of Goetzville; son, James (Terry) Tominac of Raber; grandchildren, Jason (Deborah) Ledy, Johna (Shawn) Walter, Tim Morgan, Jessie (Brian) Tominac, Kyle (Melissa) Tominac, Katie (Ethan) Castagne, Marah (Chase) Fierek, and Morgan Fierek; great-grandchildren, Dominic (Ashley), Marcus, Lillia, Kevin, Nathan, Julie, Franklin, Dawson, Mackenzie, Marshall, Sawyer, Wade, Quinn, Cy, and Hazen; great-great-grandchild, Cade; brothers, Paul (Shirley) Cryderman, Jim (Carol) Cryderman, and sister-in-law, Irene Cryderman Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Basil and Mary; husband, John; grandchild, Jenny Ledy Morgan; brothers, Bill (Pat) Cryderman, Newt (Julie) Cryderman, and Joe Cryderman; and sisters, Sadie (Ken) Sibbald and Dorothy (Ed) Hoffman. Elizabeth Huffman

"Elizabeth "Betty" Huffman was born on February 23, 1945, to Elizabeth "Betty" Miller and Harold Gugin. She was first raised in the St. Ignace area and then later, in Hessel Michigan where she met and later married James Huffman in 1962. After marriage they built their home and raised their children. Betty worked as a waitress at several different restaurants between Hessel and Cedarville, with the latest being Hessel Bay Inn. She also went to work for the Les Cheneaux Community School doing what she loved the most, feeding everyone, as a cook in the school cafeteria where she retired just shy of 18 years. She was a Sault Tribe Elder and enjoyed volunteering to help their group in many ways, whether it was selling raffle tickets, running concessions at pow-wows or making/baking numerous things to sell at their bake sales. In her spare time, she enjoyed going on trips with the elder group, attending concerts, going on long car rides with her husband, catching every Bingo game she could and playing in a cribbage league. The thing Betty cherished the most in life was spending time with her family. From gathering all their young grandkids and taking them camping and then in later years turning into yearly shopping trips. Making sure to get together for every Holiday, birthday, and even for no reason at all, other to just be together enjoying each other's company. Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim Huffman; Her children, James (Valerie) Huffman and Lisa (Ray Elkins) Colegrove; Her grandchildren, Rachel (Brandon) Laforte, Jennifer Huffman, Danielle (Noah) Lindberg, Olivia Huffman, Tiffany (Raymond) Drake, Brandon Warner, Alyssa Gravelle, James Huffman, Elizabeth Colegrove, Loreena Huffman; Great grandchildren, Evan Lindberg, Evelynn Drake, Emery Drake, Emersyn Huffman, Kaylee Fisher, Hunter Heacock, with one more on the way; As well as her brother, George Gugin. "Richard Earl Mitchell, age 77, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died October 15, 2023, at Medilodge in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was born February 10, 1946, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to the late Earl and Irene (Fortin) Mitchell. Richard resided in Sault Ste Marie his entire life. He had many friends and enjoyed his many years working at Northern Transitions. Richard had many hobbies that included riding his bicycle, walks to the Soo Locks, preparing his famous pancake breakfasts, and going on occasional outings with his brother. Richard is survived by his sister, Shirley Bugg of Newberry, Michigan; brothers, Merlin Mitchell of Flint, Michigan, and Harold (Sally) Mitchell of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marlene; brothers, Donald Mitchell and Gerald Mitchell; sister-in-law, Annette Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Vercil Bugg. "Walter Dale McMillan, age 75, died October 18, 2023 at home. He was born in Eckerman, Michigan, to parents Judd and Lois McMillan on May 9, 1948. Walter enjoyed farming, especially working with horses and goats. He liked helping people and was always ready to tell them about the Gospel. One of his favorite pastimes was tinkering with old tractors. He met his wife Betty Jo (Joann) at the Grace Brethren Church and they were married on February 24, 1977. They had one child, Stefanie. He loved his family and was a proud Papa to his two granddaughters. Walter is survived by his wife, Betty Jo (Joann); daughter, Stefanie (John) Clark; granddaughters, Morgan and Peyton; siblings, Ron (Nellie) McMillan, Gerald (Carol) McMillan, Milton (Alma) McMillan, Carol Drukenmiller, Rick (Judi) McMillan, Audrey (Pat) McCarry, Tarry (Kathy) McMillan, Debbie (Brad) Gross, and Doris Heigel, along with many nieces and nephews. "Muriel Anne Roeske finished her journey in this life on June 5, 2023 in Pleasant Hill, Iowa at 94 years of age. Muriel and her husband, Clyde Roeske were longtime residents of Rogers City. She was a daughter of George and Anne (Cartwright) MacDonald of Hessel and is survived by six of her siblings, Kenneth, Norma, Margaret, Kathryn, Judith, and Paul; four children. Mary Lynn, Connie, David, and Timothy; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, a son-in-law, and many extended family and friends. A Memorial Service is planned for 2:00 p. m. Monday, October 9th at the Beck Funeral Home in Rogers City with visiting beginning at 1:00 p. m. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Memorial Park Cemetery in Rogers City. "Marlene Ellen (Eisinger) Kennedy, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023, at the age of 84 in Pickford, Michigan. She was born on October 18, 1938, in Filion, Michigan, to Norman and Irene Eisinger. Marlene is survived by her devoted husband Stanley O. Kennedy, Sr. ; her loving children Carole L. Kennedy, Rebecca F. Kennedy, and Stanley O. Kennedy, Jr. (wife Maureen O'Brien); her beloved grandchildren Roxy M. Chaney, Amanda (husband Derek) J. Runyan, Oakman A. (wife Naomi) Kennedy, Margaret E. Kennedy, and Victoria G. Kennedy; and her cherished great grandchildren Skyy A. Runyan, Rex K. Runyan, and Callaway Belle Kennedy. Marlene is also survived by her older brothers Ronald Eisinger and Robert Eisinger. Marlene was preceded in death by her dear father, mother, and brothers Edward, Floyd, and Donald Eisinger. A particularly proud moment in Marlene's life involved her return to school. In 2007 she graduated summa cum laude from Lake Superior State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology. Marlene's working career spanned four decades; and in that time, she held many noteworthy positions. However, if you asked her which stuck out most in her mind, it would be her hospital administrative assistant roles with St. Bernadine\u0027s Hospital in San Bernardino, California, and St. Mary\u0027s Medical Center in Long Beach, California. Her dedication and contributions to the healthcare field were commendable; and her career culminated in her attaining the position of Fund Development Officer for the St. Mary's Medical Center Foundation. Outside of her professional life, Marlene was an active member of the Pickford Lions Club, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Club, and the Pickford Presbyterian Women's Association all in Pickford. She cherished the camaraderie and friendships she formed through these organizations. Marlene\u0027s vibrant personality was well-known to those around her. She had a quick wit, infectious laughter, and a genuine ability to speak her mind. Her family and friends will always remember her warm smile and loving nature. We are eternally grateful to Claudia Fhlug, from Kincheloe, Michigan, who was a long-time caregiver for Marlene and became a part of our family. We also want to express our appreciation to the staff at the Pennington Home in Pickford. A Celebration of Life to honor Marlene\u0027s memory will be held at a later date, as the family is currently making arrangements. "Catherine "Cathy" Ann (Fouts-Edington) Thorne, age 81, of Pickford, Michigan, passed away at the Pennington Home in Pickford on October 3, 2023. She was born on April 7, 1942, in Owosso, Michigan, to Charles Henry Herbert and Margaret Ann (Bell) Fouts. Cathy grew up in Morrice, Michigan, and graduated from Morrice High School with the class of 1960. She moved to Pickford in 1972 and worked at the Pickford Schools for 30 years as a teacher's aide. She also coached the Pickford High School Girl's Track for 22 years. She married Melvin George Thorne on August 8, 1986, at the United Methodist Church in Pickford. Cathy was very active in the Pickford Schools and community. She will always be remembered for her humor, quick wit, and smiling face. She loved her family and was always there caring and helping them. Cathy is survived by her husband, Melvin; sons, John (Susan) Edington of Pickford, Todd (Debra) Edington of Barbeau, Michigan; daughters, Sharon (Marty) LaJoie of Sault Ste.
