Age - 100
November 28, 2023
"Berdass, Margo Age 100, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, passed away on November 26th, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. Daughter of Jacob and Anna Moses, Margo was born in Winzig, Germany on March 14, 1923, and emigrated to the United States in 1940. Margo was preceded in death by her loving husband Fred, courageous son and grandson Danny Berdass and Benjie Hartman, devoted sister Ruth (Max) Berns and older brother Joseph (Frances) Moses. Margo leaves a family legacy of her loving children Danny z'l (Pearl) Berdass, Jeffrey (Connie) Berdass and Nancy (Bob) Hartman, caring and loyal grandchildren David, Ellen (Joey), Josh (Ali), Michael (Jennifer), and Joey (Stefanie), and adoring great-grandchildren Evie, Kira, Myra, Annie, Ruthie, Fred, Jonah, Bess, Sasha, Emmy, and Ryder (who Nana Gogo held this past Yom Kippur). Margo's longtime companions, Rita and Selina, stood by her side every step of the way with respect and love. Margo was an Eishet Chayil - a Woman of Valor - with remarkable elegance, dignity and grace. Separated from her family in Germany, first at age 12 to attend a Jewish school in a nearby town, and then at age 17 to come to America alone. Margo became strong, resilient and positive throughout her fulfilling life. Once she made it to the United States in the early 1940s, Margo began corresponding with another young German immigrant named Fred, and when he visited St. Paul on August 2, 1943, it was love at first sight. They were engaged one week later and married in December 1943 before Fred returned to Europe as a soldier for the next 2 1/2 years. Fred and Margo were inseparable for the next 64 years of a wonderful marriage. Together they raised their family, and in 1947 founded Bermo, Inc. , a legacy that remains in the family today. Decades ago, a young nephew could not pronounce Margo, and from that day forth, she was known as Nana Gogo to everyone, friends and family alike. Nana Gogo and Fred were lifelong members of Adath Jeshurun, a community of friends who remained important throughout their lives. The great hope of Fred and Margo was that their kindness and generosity would live on in their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nana Gogo was thankful for all the blessings in her life, and on her 100th birthday last year, surrounded by her great-grandchildren, she recited the Shehecheyanu, the sacred Jewish prayer of special occasions: Baruch atah, Adonoi, Eloheinu, Melech haolam, Shehecheyanu, v-kiy-manu, v-hig-iyanu laz-man hazeh.
