Sakoya was affectionately known as "Kory" or "Koya" (especially by her nephew Zane) and mommy by her mom Woman. She received her childhood education through the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated form NAF Academy. . . . . Class of 2021. Sakoya loved fashion, especially dressing up or "getting cute" as she would say. She loved her hair, nails and lashes done at all times. Sakoya loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Sakoya was kind and very passionate about her family, especially close and dear to her heart, like her sister Drea (Sis), nephew Zane (Stink-Butt), and of course her mom, Woman. Sakoya also loved her older cousins and hanging out with them. Although she was a few years younger, she did not let that stop her from joining them on a "Girls' Night Out" of dancing, laughing, and having a good time. Sakoya was employed at Walgreen's for the last 2 years as a Cashier Sales Associate (CSA), and was recently promoted to a Team Lead CSA. She loved working and would not be caught taking a day off unless it was absolutely necessary. Sakoya was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Frank Lathan; two grandfathers, Samuel Williams and Kenneth Lathan; two uncles, James M. Williams and Gary K. Williams; two cousins, Tammy T. Norvell Brinton

Norvell Brinton

Age - 83

December 1, 2023

Norvell Pearson Brinton, 83, passed away peacefully in the company of loved ones on November 29th, 2023, after a brief bout of pneumonia. Norvell was born in Baltimore on October 16, 1940 to Edward Buck Brinton and Virginia "Dinnie" Chapman Brinton (nee Ward), the first of three children. In 1958 she graduated from Roland Park Country School and made her debut at The Cotillion in Baltimore. She then attended Hollins College before marrying the late Bradley Nichols Keyes (LCDR, USN - ret. )Like most "Navy Wives" of that time, Norvell maintained a household and raised their three children (all boys - !) almost single-handedly, across multiple states, while her husband served his country, including a tour in Vietnam. She did this by mixing style, aplomb, humor, and tremendous love with the challenges, frustrations, and loneliness that accompanied women in her position. Despite years of earnest counseling, they divorced in 1975. Norvell then joined the workforce at Cofer's, Inc. in Norfolk, Virginia, first in their shipping department, and later as a junior interior designer. Her second marriage took her and her children to Wellesley Hills, MA, where she was deeply involved with the Junior League's annual Show House. She continued that involvement after moving to Falls Church, earning several pages in one year's issue of House Beautiful. After that marriage ended in divorce, she returned to Baltimore and met Jamie, with whom she enjoyed the final, and most joyful, years of her life. Norvell was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice. She loved singing, and joined the choir of the local Episcopal church wherever she found herself. She loved interior design, horseback riding, painting, going to the beach, flowers (both admiring and arranging), her children and grandchildren, and her dear childhood friends who "closed the circle" of her life after she returned to Baltimore. She is survived by her loving husband, John M. "Jamie" Myers; her children, Bradley Brinton Pratt Keyes (Carla), Randolph Chapman Keyes, and Pearson Nichols Keyes; her brothers, E. Buck Brinton, Jr. (Karen) and Randolph Ward Brinton (Hillary); her grandchildren, Deborah Pratt Keyes, Elijah Pratt Keyes, and Sophia Isabella Keyes; and her former husband, Douglas Marvin Johnston, Jr. (CAPT, USN - ret. ). She is preceded in death by the father of her children, Bradley Nichols Keyes; and by her dear friend, Chris Thomas. A service of thanksgiving for her life will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, December 2, at the Stella Maris Chapel in Timonium, MD. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Stella Maris (g[email protected]) or the Alzheimer's Association (alz. org).Show more

Norita Halvorsen

Norita Halvorsen

Age - 83

December 1, 2023

Norita Julia Halvorsen1940-2023Norita Julia Halvorsen, 83, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the beloved wife of Harold Halvorsen+, mother of Erik, Kirsten, and Karina, mother-in-law of Julie, John, and Doug, and proud grandmother/"Bestemor" of Haley, Jane, William, Abigail, Caroline, Aidan, and Anna. Norita "Reet" could tell a story like no one else. She had a quick wit and genuine interest in people, never forgot a birthday, insisted on playing Kool & the Gang's Celebration at every graduation, baby shower, any happy occasion, bought balloons for said occasions, could spot a bargain from a mile away (as a rule, she'd buy two of everything), kept a gift closet so she was always prepared to mark someone's milestone, could read three newspapers at once (and cut out hundreds of articles to mail to family and friends), watched every episode of Law and Order, Hill Street Blues, and M*A*S*H, loved show tunes, found time to volunteer for the PTA and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church preschool while raising three kids and working full-time, and lived by her favorite Rudyard Kipling line: Walk with kings [but never] lose the common touch. Born February 23, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, to Dr. Joseph Randazzo and Alice O. Randazzo of Floral Park, New York, Norita was named for her parents' heritage: "Nor" for Norway and "ita" for Italy. She was a fierce protector of her younger sister, Beatrice. Norita graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and attended Queens College Nursing Science program, where she met many lifelong friends. After earning her RN, she received a scholarship to New York University, graduating with a master's degree in nursing in 1964. Norita enjoyed a 30-plus-year career as a professor of medical-surgical nursing at Nassau Community College on Long Island. She loved teaching, and many of her students kept in touch with her through the years. On a rainy night in July 1963, Norita went to a dance at the Garden City Hotel on Long Island. A handsome, reserved engineer with a slight accent asked her to dance. It turned out Harold "Hal" was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and had grown up in Norway. Norita had recently studied public health at the University of Oslo International Summer School, so the two had a lot to talk about. They were married June 6, 1964. They raised their family in Huntington, New York, where they lived for nearly 50 years. Reet and Hal had a wonderful retirement. They traveled the world, enjoyed hundreds of lunches, dinners, and cups of coffee with old friends, and never missed a grandchild's milestone. They moved to Northern Virginia in 2016 to be close to family. They were the best of friends until Hal passed away in 2020. Norita moved to Roland Park Place in Baltimore in April 2023. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Norita is survived by her niece Candice DeRousse. The family will hold a celebration of life in 2024 in Huntington (date to be determined). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (Norita was a cancer survivor) or Roland Park Place (rolandparkplace. org).Show more
