Obituary of James Howard James H. "Jim" Howard, Sr., 75, of Vermilion, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Jim was born on August 8, 1943 in Toledo, Ohio and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 32 years moving from Norwalk. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Vietnam War. While in the Navy, he was on the USS Enterprise and the Riverboats. Jim retired from Ford Motor Company in 1996 after 40 years of service. He loved fishing and his dog, Snoopy. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburg Steelers, word search puzzles, puzzles, remodeling his house, cars, playing solitaire, and spending time with his family. He is survived by children, James Howard, Jr of Hendersonville, NC, Wendy M (Tony) Worley of Hayesville, NC, Misty C Howard of Vermilion, Lisa L Howard of Sylva, NC, Jeremy S Howard of Toledo, David R Howard of Murphy, NC, and Heidi N (Warren Damcott) Howard of Vermilion; grandchildren, Ryan, Josh, Cameron, and Nicholas, and sister, Alice Steep of Wallbridge; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent "Red" and Agnes (nee Lingres) Howard. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 1:00 pm until the time of Military Honors at 2:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Military Honors will be presented by the Vermilion Veterans Council. Private burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion, Ohio.
