Gainesville --- Phyllis Jane Van Slyke Hunt, age 84, previously of Port St. Lucie, FL, and a former resident of Gainesville passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the home of her son, Michael Phelps, in Plymouth, NC. Phyllis was born June 7, 1939, in Warsaw a daughter of the late Wesley and Ruth Morris Van Slyke, the youngest of 5 children. Her brothers, Paul Jord, Wesley Allen, and most recently Bruce Van Slyke have all passed before her. Phyllis grew up on a farm with her family in Gainesville and attended Gainesville High School and later Letchworth Central School. In 1957, she married Robert J. Phelps, who died in 1974. For many years, Phyllis worked at SUNY Geneseo and for a time, she owned and operated a women's clothing store in Perry. Phyllis later worked for NY State at Letchworth State Park. She married Larry Hunt and after both had retired, they travelled extensively while Larry was employed by FEMA. She operated The Country House antique shop in Rock Glen before they moved to Florida. Phyllis had many close friends during her life and in her early years sang in her church choir and participated in many activities. She loved to cook, bake, entertain friends and family, and tend her flowers. Phyllis will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Hunt was proceeded in death by her husband, Larry Hunt, who died in 2008, step-son Richard P. Hunt, and by her son, Gerald Phelps, who passed earlier this year. Mourning her loss, she is survived by many loving family members including her son Michael, with whom she had been living, and daughter Lori Ann Phelps of Wiscoy; grandchildren John (Courtney) Phelps, of Rochester, Patience (Douglas) White, of Silver Springs, and Kristin (Thomas) Fulford and a great-granddaughter, Brynleigh of Rochester; her step-children Laurie (James) Buzzard of Cuba, Vickie Hunt of Bradford, PA, Susan (Robert) Bleeks of Hume, and their families; sister Judith Rutherford of Silver Springs, sister-in-law, Carolyn Van Slyke of Pike and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may gather from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N Genesee Street, Fillmore where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Town of Allen --- Richard D. Marriott of 9952 W. Hill Road passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 in Rochester General Hospital. He was born on January 6, 1939 in Fillmore, a son of the late Delwin and Marjorie Moore Marriott. On May 21, 1960 in Fillmore he married Marsha Stultz who survives. Rich was a lifelong dairy farmer and cattle hauler. He was a former 4-H leader, former member of the farm bureau, former member of the Allen Town Board and an active participant in the Allegany County Fair. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and especially talking with people and being a jokester. Surviving in addition to his wife are their children, Sue (Ken) Andrus of Towanda, PA, Bobbie (Sonny) Bennett of Montgomery, TX, Carolyn (Mike) Salter of Livonia, Ron (Joanne) Marriott of Fillmore, Doug (Cindy) Marriott of Fillmore, nine grandchildren, Aaron, Zach, Nick, Brooke, Morgan, Corinn, Cody, Ryan and Cassie, eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Linda (Robert) Dingman of Gowanda and six nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Gross. Centerville --- Wellington W. Hatch Jr. of 11036 County Road 36 passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023 in his home. He was born on May 10, 1949 in Fillmore, a son of the late Wellington and Sadie Cockle Hatch Sr. On July 27, 1973 he married Dawn Sturtevant who predeceased him in 2001. Wellington was an outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting, splitting wood and mowing his lawn. He also enjoyed traveling, playing solitaire and spending time with his family, especially his brothers. Surviving are his children, Jeremy (Sara) Hatch of Centerville, Troy (Michelle) Hatch of Centerville, Crystal (Ed) Gordon of Greer, SC, nine grandchildren, Abigail Hatch, Emily Hatch, Matthew Hatch, Rachel Hatch, Isaac Hatch, Eli Hatch, Alex Hatch, Owen Hatch, Michael Gordon, his siblings, Barbara Rutecki of Farmersville, Norman (Darcy) Hatch of Centerville, , Eugene (Linda) Hatch of Olean, Susan Morton of Vernon, AL, Ricky Hatch of Fillmore and many nieces and nephews. Perry --- With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald R Bliss of Concord, North Carolina and a former resident of Perry Ron passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on October 7, 2023, at the age of 85 after battling lung cancer for the second time He was born on July 27, 1938, in Hume, a son of the late Elwin and Dorothy Bliss He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Bliss of 58 years After graduating from Fillmore Central School in 1957, Ron enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he proudly served from 1957-1961 A few years after he got out of the Marine Corp, he met the love of his life, Judy They were married in 1965 and moved to Perry to raise their family Ron graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1967 He worked at Rochester Community Savings Bank for many years It was there where he was granted a very prestigious award for Salesman of the Year for the State of New York After the death of their daughter Lyn in 1980, they moved to East Aurora and published a newspaper called the Buffalo Bills Weekly In 1986, they decided to pick up the stakes and move to North Carolina Ron was a patriot of this country and there was no question what his political affiliation was The American flag waves proudly in their front yard at this moment We would open the blinds in his bedroom every morning, so he could enjoy that beautiful view A true testament for his love of the USA Marine Corp bumper stickers adorn their car, and an exceptionally large eagle emblem was placed on the hood as well, representing the freedoms we have today Yes, Dad loved this country! Ron was a past charter member of The Marine Corp League detachment of Cabarrus County He was an avid mountain biker, he was a huge Buffalo Bill's fan, loved ice cream and he enjoyed playing card games, especially Bridge! A bigger coffee connoisseur you will not find Dad loved his coffee and only he could fix it properly The coffee machine still turns on automatically in the kitchen, waiting for him to prepare the perfect cup of brew We will continue to let it do that, because it is a wonderful reminder of him But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his beautiful family, whom he loved dearly His smile lit up the room and we will miss that A special shout out goes to the Class of 1957 from Fillmore Central School he loved you all so much!!
