James Hataway Obituary

Funeral Services for Mr. James W. (Fred) Hataway will be held Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the chapel of Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Dr. Kevin Jones and Rev. Andy May officiating. Burial will follow at the V. A. Cemetery in Newton, MS. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Mr. James Winfred Hataway, age 84, of Meridian, MS passed away on Friday, May 5th, 2023 at The University of Mississippi Medical Center. Fred was a faithful member and deacon of Faith Baptist Church. He served twenty years as an officer in the Meridian Police Department, and he also retired from the Mississippi Air National Guard where he served as a security officer. After retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Doris Martin Hataway, his daughter Jan Hataway Butler (Darrell), his grandson Sam Butler, a special niece Kay Van Skiver and several nieces and nephews. James was the son of the late Colie May Hataway and Almon Lamar Hataway of Philadelphia, MS. He was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Hataway Johnson and his brother Almon Lamar Hataway, Jr. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Faith Baptist Church building fund or The Gideons International. Pallbearers will be: Jed Lane, Nathan Lane, Billy Warsaw, Bobby Jones, Joseph Coates, and Lee Shumate. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Log Rollers Sunday School Class.
