James Wesley Hart, of Protection, KS, also known as Jim, Jimmy, Dad, Daddy, and Grandpa Jim went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 84 years young in the Comanche County Hospital, Coldwater, KS. Jim was born on August 10, 1939 at the family farm home in Sun City, KS to Edward E. Hart and Mildred M. Bodenhamer-Hart. Jim grew up on the farm and learned the farming trade in his youth from his father, Ed. He attended grade school and high school in Sun City, KS. He participated in sports, basketball, baseball and track. He graduated from Sun City High School in 1957 and soon after he graduated, he started his rodeo career, riding bucking bulls and broncos. On August 21st of that same year, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia L. Cook, and in March of 1958, they moved from Sun City, KS to Protection, KS to begin their lifelong legacy. Jim started working at Lane Myers barbed wire company and then was offered a farming job for Gene Ewy, so he quit working at Lane Myers and farmed by day and rodeoed evenings, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, every week. He continued to Rodeo for approximately 20 years, alongside farming, ranching with cattle, roughneck work, and a sawmill business with his son Justin Hart; also a baling and hauling hay business with his partner, Nevan Riner. Jim continued to work up until about 5 years ago when he retired. He stayed busy with his horse Jake and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his first indoor dog, Shiloh, and his many cats and spending time with his wife, Pat, up until he passed away. Jim Hart brought 100% to all he did in life. He was present and worked hard at everything he did. He loved his wife and family deeply, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a friend to anyone he met. He was a horse whisperer and just had a way with all animals. He was so gentle, caring, and kind. He was loved deeply by his wife Pat and his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed. Until we all meet again, he is present with Christ and rejoicing in heaven. Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Ed & Mildred Hart; his brother: Kent Hart; his grandson: Tyler Hart; and his brother-in-law: Bob Basnett. He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Patricia L. Hart, his 4 children: Justin Hart (Becky) of Medicine Lodge, KS, Jana Durall of Topeka, KS, Jamie Hart (Jennie) of Protection, KS and Jodi Beck (Max) of Dodge City, KS; his sister: Velma Basnett of Coldwater, KS and family; 14 grandchildren: Stacy Hart (Ashley) of Wichita, KS, Justine Klein (Chris) of Pratt, KS, Sheldon Hart (Bailey) of Gardner, KS, Holly Ferrante (Evan) of Lenexa, KS, Heidi Conley (Steven) of Topeka, KS, Heath Durall (Emily) of Olathe, KS, Tatum Swim (Caleb) of Topeka, KS, Dustin Hart (Erika) of Garden City, KS, Kira Pfannenstiel (Drew) of Ness City, KS, Haley Hart (Kolton) of Buffalo, Oklahoma. Following graveside services, the First Baptist Church will be hosting a family luncheon in the church basement. Carol Frances Burns was born on November 17th 1951 in Hardener, Kansas to Virgil and Lena (Swafford) Burns. She passed away on February 19th 2023 in Protection, Kansas. Carol was the second oldest of "The Burns Girls" as they were known around Kiowa Kansas. Carol went to school in Hazelton Kansas, for part of her Elementary years, then went to Kiowa High School and Graduated from Kiowa High School Kiowa, Kansas. Carol was a part of the Rainbow girls and 4 H as a young girl. She helped her father on the family farm by Hazelton driving a wheat truck. On October 30th 1968 she married Larry Stark at the Methodist Church in Kiowa, Kansas. To this union one daughter was born Vana Stark. Carol helped Larry and his brothers with working cattle after they got married. Carol moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1977 to go to school to be a Dental Hygienist she worked for Dr. Rohr and later she went to manicurist school and went to work for her aunt Joyce O'Conner. Carol also worked for Hickerson Furniture, All That Glitters, Zales Jewelry, Montgomery Ward Anthony Community Care Center and Harper County Health Department. In 2014 Carol moved to Protection, Kansas with her daughter to be the Grandma of the Kennel for Sam and Becky Mosshart. Carol loved working with puppies and playing with all of them, and if there was one that needed extra TLC Grandma was there day or night for that puppy. She is proceed in death by her parents Virgil and Lena Burns, Brother Dennis Burns, Brother in Laws Otto Starzyk, Terry Shepard and niece Shannon Bowmaker. Jessica Jo Gean, 49, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the family home north of Protection, KS. Born October 10, 1973 at Greensburg, KS, she was the daughter of Kenneth Gean and Janice (Huck) Gean Moore. Jessica graduated from Protection High School in Protection, KS in 1992, attended Barton County Community College, received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kansas State University in 1996, and received a Master's Degree in Education from Fort Hays State University in 2011. She was a teacher, starting her career as a 3rd Grade Teacher in Greensburg, KS from 1999-2000. She was then a Special Education Teacher at South Central Elementary School in Protection, KS from 2000-2014, a 5th Grade Teacher in Lincoln, KS from 2016-2017, and a Special Education Teacher in Bennington, KS from 2017- Present. Jessica was a resident of Lincoln, KS and attended Bennington Bible Church. She was a member of K. N. E. A. and Kiowa Creek 4-H. She enjoyed watching Jackson and Emmarie show their animals, supporting Brenna and Zach in their activities, hanging out with her little buddy Hudson, and taking road trips with Traci. She was an avid K-State Wildcat and Kansas City Chiefs fan. She loved her two cats and enjoyed playing the piano and singing. She is survived by her mother: Janice Moore of Coldwater, KS; one brother: Randyl Gean (Katresa) of Protection, KS and nephew and niece Jackson and Emmarie Gean; one sister: Erica Gean of Wichita, KS; other "sisters": Traci, Pam, Nicci, and Jaymi; and numerous other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father: Kenneth Gean; stepfather: Bucky Moore; grandparents: Vernon and Maxine Huck; and uncle: Larry Huck. Obituary Mary "Mick" Weimer, age 66, of Protection, Kansas formerly of Ellis passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, Kansas. She was born December 10, 1954 in Hays, Kansas to Fred and Theresa (Hoog) Weimer. Mick graduated from Ellis High School in 1972. She enjoyed playing guitar and had played in a rock band. She is survived by four brothers, Don Weimer (Norma) of Hays, Eugene "Woody" Weimer (Elizabeth) of McKinney, Texas, Linus "Chub" Weimer (Wanda) of Andover, Kansas and Martin Weimer (Karla) of Ellis; three sisters, Donna Hays (Alan) of Ellis, Linda Vanderwood of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Paulette Deutscher (Gary Blessing) of Great Bend, Kansas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Susan Weber.
