Ja Wilson

Ja Wilson

Age - 56

November 10, 2023

James "Ja" Wilson, 56, left the struggles of this world behind on Monday, November 6, 2023. Ja grew up in Boonville, IN where he was a gifted athlete, most notably on the football field. He shared his passion for the game with his players at South Spencer Middle/High School, where his career in education began. His tenure as an educator spanned twenty-five years in four different school districts. He was a teacher, a coach, an assistant principal, principal, an educational specialist and a superintendent. Ja's love for the students in his care was the hallmark of his career. Every decision he made was for "his" kids. This love for his students was only surpassed by the love he had for his family. Ja and his wife Carmen were married twenty-nine years. They went on their first date the Saturday after Carmen's senior prom. They have two daughters, Lindsey and Aimee, and if you ever met him you heard all about them. He was so proud! Ja had a big presence, but an even bigger heart. He was compassionate, stubborn when he thought he was right and so funny. One of his greatest joys was making his girls laugh. His favorite pastime was fishing and he taught both of his daughters to cast a spinning reel, bought them both a bait collection before they could read and had them "lipping" bass like little pros. Ja leaves behind his wife Carmen, daughters Lindsey and Aimee, his mother Sue Wilson, sister Angie Pemberton, sister and brother-in-law Mindi and David Jones, his mother-in-law and father-in-law George and Gayle Thorpe, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Tracy and Cori Fortune and Ryan and Dana Fisher, nieces Kylie, Jaden, Averly, Molly, Samantha, Ruby and Ramona, nephews Christopher (Paige), Kyle (Rachel), Moi and Cassidy. Ja was preceded in death by his father Jimmy Ray Wilson and his nephew Charlie Fortune. A Celebration of Ja's life will be held at Baker Chapel U. M. C, 3495 E. State Route 62, Boonville, IN 47601, on Tuesday November 14, 2023. 2:00 - 4:00 pm is a time to share memories, tell stories and remember Ja. At 4:00 p. m. there will be a memorial service to honor his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either of the following organizations.
