James Michael "Pappy" Grimsley, age 74, of New Canton, IL, passed away December 4, 2023 at home with his loving wife, Jackie by his side. He was born in Barry, IL on May 29, 1949 to William Ray Grimsley Sr. and Bernice (Morrow) Grimsley. He married Jacquiline L. Badgley on September 21, 2006, and she survives. Michael proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp as a staff sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1974. He came from a family of men who served their country. His father, Bill Grimsley Sr. and uncle, Gerald Grimsley, served in World War II, and his brother, Bill Grimsley Jr. in Vietnam. He married Brenda Stone and to their union, four children were born, Nicole, Shelly, Ray, and Brandon. He later married Jackie and enjoyed many loving years with her. He enjoyed being a manager at Top Gun in Hannibal in his later years. Mike had many titles in his life, but the best one was "Grandpa". Pappy enjoyed riding dirt bikes, racing, and had a love for horses. He enjoyed the rescue horses that came in and later went to loving homes. He and Jackie also helped many people by taking them in as well. Mike enjoyed keeping his yard looking good, riding in the side-by-side with his friend, Gary, and playing Farkle with friends, John and Judy. Mike is survived by; his wife of 17 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" Grimsley; children, Nicole (Chad) Triplett of New Mexico, Shelly Young (David) of Quincy, IL, Ray (Joyce) Grimsley of Hull, IL, Brandon (Tina) Grimsley of Hannibal, MO, Mike Brown (Jenny) of Quincy, IL, and Adam Brown (Marsha) of Hannibal, MO. ; grandchildren, Kaleb, Emily, Jake, Celeste, Amelia, Sidney, Isla, Nikki, Tiffany, and Drew; great grandchildren, Nevada and Zepplin; brother, Bill Grimsley of Kinderhook, IL; sisters, Eileen Bernard of New Canton, IL, Sherril Turner (Darrel) of Shelbina, MO, and Dena Moyer of Kinderhook, IL; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins survive. He was preceded in death by; his parents, Bill and Bernice; sister, Karen Jean; aunt, Kathy Reynolds; uncle, Richard Morrow; nephews, Jacob Harrison and Ryan Moyer; step daughter, Lisa Brown; sisters in law, Crista Grimsley and Frances Dieker; and close friend, Randy Newland. Visitation will be Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM. He was born October 28, 1944 in Buckingham County, a son of the late John Daniel and Annie Warsing Wood. Franklin is survived by his loving wife, Betty C. Wood; his sons, Franklin D. Wood, Jr. Michael D. Wood and his wife Angie, Bruce A. Wood; daughter in law, Melissa Wood; stepchildren, Gary Pollard, Sherry Pepper, Penny C. Lewis and her husband, Randy; Tammy Bailey and her husband, Mike, Shane Cordell and his wife, Anna; grandchildren, Madison Wood, Dylan Wood, Brandon Wood, Stephanie Ragland, Summer Lynn Hull, Cody Allen Wood, Robin Wood, Zak Bailey, Ben Bailey, Dustin Cordell, Layland Cordell, and Tobin Cordell; great-grandchildren, Isabella Wood, Emma Mayo, Mattie Ragland, Tripp Ragland, Layne Cox, Weston Wood, and Wayne Wood. Maxine "JoAnn" Walker, aged 84, of New Canton, IL, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023. She was born in New Canton, IL, to Walter and Rebecca Pearl Myers Foster on December 7, 1938. She married Junior Dale Walker on May 6, 1957 in Hannibal, MO. and he survives. JoAnn grew up in the New Canton Bottoms and graduated from West Pike High School in 1957. After graduation, she married Junior and began raising their family. Throughout her life, besides being the best housewife, she worked for Motorola, at the convenience store in New Canton, and also worked in telephone sales. JoAnn was very involved in the New Canton Harvest Festival and served on its board for many years. She was also a trustee for New Canton township. She was a member of the Rockport Christian Church and served as its treasurer for many years. JoAnn was a seamstress and also made leather goods such as purses and belts. She loved flowers, her favorite being roses. She liked gardening, especially watching the hummingbirds and hearing her collection of windchimes as she worked outside. She enjoyed collecting glass bells, Christmas villages, and potted plants. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. JoAnn was a hard-worker and a very loving person. She took care of everyone- raising many others besides her own children. She was very patient, easy going and never met a stranger. She loved her family more than anything and will be dearly missed by them. She is survived by; her loving husband of over 66 years, Junior Dale Walker; sons, Jim (Kay) Walker of New Canton, IL, Steve (Linda) Walker of New Canton, IL, Doug Walker of New Canton, IL, Chuck (Beth) Walker of New Canton, IL, Jerry (Sara) Walker of Quincy, IL, and Joe Walker of New Canton, IL; daughter, Julie (George) Bainter of Barry, IL; 23 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; brother Richard (Amy) Foster of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. Norman Dwight Christian, 78, of New Canton passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Dwight was born May 26, 1944 in Richmond, a son of the late George Norman and Viola Hudgins Christian. Dwight was part owner of G. N. Christian & Son construction for 60 plus years. He was an avid fox hunter and a longtime member of Hard Luck Hunt Club. He volunteered with the Arvonia Fire Department for many years and at one time held the position of Chief. Dwight was a member and Trustee of Arvonia Church. Dwight is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda Green Christian; two sons, George Norman Christian(Stephanie Blanks Christian) and David Ware Christian (Ramona Dunn Christian); grandchildren, Marci Christian Lowrance (Isaac) and Connor David Christian (Macey); two great-grandchildren, John David Lowrance and Teagan Grace Lowrance; brother George Randolph "Randy" Christian (Gail) and brother-in-laws, Earnest J. "Slim" Christian. and Aubrey Clyde "A. C. " Lightfoot (Becky); multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Donna L. Niffen, age 83, of Pittsfield, formerly of New Canton, IL passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 at her home. She was born on October 29, 1939 in Louisiana, MO to Raymond and Nellie Gadberry Pine. She married Walter 'Cork' Niffen on November 1, 1957 in Bowling Green, MO and he preceded her in death on April 27, 2004. Donna graduated from Louisiana High School. She went on to get married and begin a family, staying home to raise their children. She worked various jobs over the years including Motorola, Stark Brothers, and Brown Shoe Factory among other factories. She also worked in the cafeteria at West Pike School and at Atlas Cafe. When she wasn't working, Donna and Cork enjoyed spending time at the river cabins with friends and going to auctions, horse shows, and rodeos. Donna was of the Baptist faith and had been attending Baylis Baptist Church. She was very family oriented and loved babysitting her grandchildren and making a big family dinner on Sundays. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities and sporting events. Donna will be remembered for being a good mother and for her strong work ethic, she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son, Randy (Hope) Niffen of Pleasant Hill, IL; daughters, Rita (Tom) Merryman of Kinderhook, IL and Regina Brehm of Pittsfield, IL; seven grandchildren, Steven Niffen of Pleasant Hill, Alicia Niffen of Pleasant Hill, Cole (Sarah) Merryman of Barry, Brent (Jessica) Merryman of Barry, Marissa (Corey) Lawson of Barry, Blaine Stephens of Pittsfield and Tim (Mary) Brehm of Pittsfield; seventeen great grandchildren, Austin, Alec, Dawson, Autumn, Gage, Madilyn, and Chase Niffen, Kinsley, Landrie, Blair, and Harper Merryman, Riley, Kayden, Myles, and Camdyn Lawson, Elijah Obert, and Nova Stephens; and several special friends including Lola Meuth, Katherine Smith, and Twila Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Nellie Pine; her husband of 46 years, Walter Niffen; son-in-law, Tim Brehm, Sr. ; and great grandson, Emryck Lawson. Bonnie Jean Dolbeare, age 85, of New Canton, IL passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL surrounded by family. She was born on May 14, 1937 in Barry, IL to Harry and Norma Allen Tittsworth. She married Clarence 'Bud' Dolbeare on January 17, 1953 in Hannibal, MO and he preceded her in death on May 18, 2014. Bonnie grew up and spent her entire life in New Canton and was a stay at home mother raising her children and taking care of the house. She attended the New Canton United Methodist Church. Bonnie loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, and attended all of their activities they were involved in. She and her husband used to enjoy going out to eat and shopping and in later years, she still enjoyed taking trips to town every Saturday. Bonnie loved animals and planting flowers. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and embroidering. She was always very thoughtful and considerate of others, and her family loved spoiling her like crazy. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her two sons, Todd (Kathy) Dolbeare of Rockport, IL and Timothy Dolbeare of New Canton, IL; two grandchildren, Zachery (Rachael) Dolbeare of Swansea, IL and Shelby Dolbeare of Pittsfield, IL; and former daughter-in-law, Toni Dolbeare of New Canton, IL. Wallace Thomas Plattner, age 84 of New Canton, IL passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022, in Jacksonville, IL. He was born January 23, 1937, in Quincy, IL to Walter Mayo and Janet Elizabeth Wells Plattner. Tom married Sara Sally Dolbeare February 10, 1979, in St. Charles, MO and she preceded him in death December 24, 2016. Tom was a 1955 graduate of Pittsfield High School and later attended Illinois College and Chicago Embalming School. Tom joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed overseas in Okinawa receiving his honorable discharge August 1958. He was a competitive guy and displayed this trait playing football at Illinois College. Tom was a 4th generation Funeral Director working for his father and later as the owner of Plattner Funeral; he built the new building out west of town in 1973. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid golfer. He was a former member of Old Orchard Country Club and member of Rotary Club. Tom also loved his many dogs over the years. Robert L. Garner, age 88 of New Canton, IL passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022, at his home. He was born August 26, 1934 in Shelby, Nebraska to Loren Clare and Elnora Cook Garner. Robert married Sandra K. Fielding August 31, 1974 in New Philadelphia, OH and she survives. Bob grew up in Shelby, Nebraska and his family moved to Rockport, IL where he graduated from Pittsfield High School Class of 1952. After high school he went on to serve his country in the United States Navy for four years, receiving an honorable discharge. While in the Navy he was stationed at Camp Lejeune and served as a medic corpsman during the Korean War stateside. At a young age he became a tool and die machinist working for Firestone/Electric Wheel/Titan. After retiring, he went to work for Owen Brown for several years. He was a member of Barry American Legion Post #222 and a past machinist union member. Bob was an avid hunter, traveling to Colorado several times to hunt elk; he also enjoyed hunting coon, deer and squirrel locally. In quiet times, he could often be found reading Western novels. He and Sandy enjoyed traveling and visited the Grand Canyon, Colorado and Florida and always made time for a stop at "the boat". Bob never met a stranger and was well liked by everyone, even though he could be a bit of an ornery jokester. He was the best story teller, often telling the same story twice with different endings! Bob loved his family, especially his grandchildren and will be deeply missed by all. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 48 years; son, John (Ellen) Archambo of New Canton, IL; daughters, Ellen Raye (Gordon) Likes of Camp Point, IL and Lee Ann Lynch of Barry, IL; five grandchildren, Matthew Likes, Michael (Kerri) Likes, Adam Archambo, Caleb Archambo and Noah Lynch; four great grandchildren, Akera Likes, Ariana Likes, Mason Lynch and Maverick Lynch; sister, Sharon Burgdorff; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Garner and Leota Garner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Elnora Garner; brothers, Lloyd Garner and James Garner; two sisters in infancy, Iris Garner and Anita Garner.
