Loganville, GA

"Dr. Mack “Preston” Moore (lovingly known as “Preacher Moore”), age 91, of Loganville, Georgia, was a man of religious distinction and honor who entered this world on January 20, 1933, and completed his journey on this earth on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his adored wife of 66 years, Janet Myers Moore who went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. To the Gwinnett County community, adjacent cities, and towns, he was a beloved and esteemed man of God who was a leader, educator, visionary, and confidant. To his family, he was a provider, counselor, and a shining example of how dedication can provide you with a life of joy in serving your Lord. Dr. Moore leaves a legacy of service and dedication that will never be forgotten. He developed into a singular personality steeped in the faith of his forbearers. To cherish his memory, he leaves his devoted son & daughter-in-law, Tim & Connie Moore of Decatur, GA; devoted daughter, Jan Moore of Hoschton, GA; devoted grandson, Timothy Preston Moore, II, J.D., and his wife Mary Lauren; two great grandsons, Timothy “Tripp” Preston Moore, III and Brooks Templeton all of Kennesaw, GA; two sisters, Denise & Benny Westmoreland and Dovie Moore Heard; brother, Rev. Jim & SuzAnne Moore; sisters-in-law, Betty Rutledge, Sandra & Joe Johnson and Kay & Jackie Smith; brothers-in-law, Donald & Marie Myers, and Terry & Betty Myers all of Loganville, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of many friends & church families. Besides his beloved wife, Mrs. Janet, Dr. Moore was also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dan Dudenhoeffer; sister, Sybil Moore Chandler; brother & sister-in-law, Dr. Tolbert Moore and his wife, Nellie Mae Burton Moore; father & mother-in-law, Richard Herbert Myers, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Green Myers. Mack Preston Moore, born in Loganville, Georgia to Rev. Mack Samuel Moore and Drue Willie Grizzle Moore, was one of six children raised in the Stone Mountain area. He was educated at Stone Mountain High School and received two Honorary Doctorate degrees during his lifetime. Dr. Moore was saved in July 1947 at the age of 14 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rockdale County. He heard the call to preach from God at the age of 21 and submitted to His will. He had been on the battlefield for the Lord till the day of his homegoing. Preacher Moore and Mrs. Janet were married on December 24, 1951. They served their Lord and Savior for 66 years together in six different churches. They were called to serve Peachtree Road Baptist Church (formerly known as Old Field Baptist Church) on June 13, 1965. They served faithfully there for 45 years until they retired in June 2010. Preacher Moore then became Pastor – Emeritus and continued his work as long as his health allowed. Fifty preachers were called to pastor their own churches under his Peachtree Road ministry. After Mrs. Janet’s 2018 death, Preacher Moore was called to serve at his seventh church in 2019, Bethel Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. Retirement was really a word that he did not recognize. He preached at the funerals of many loved ones, was always there when a family needed his guidance and support. He never stopped serving his Lord. Preacher Moore brought to Peachtree Road a vision to compel God’s people to His perfect will by the direction of the Holy Spirit, and the knowledge of the Word of God. Since his arrival in 1965, he led renovation efforts at Peachtree Road inside and outside, and grew the membership ten-fold. He was blessed with a pastoral heart which made him an ideal shepherd in the church setting. His life was an example to his church members, his fellow ministers, and all who knew him, on how one should be Christ-Like. As a preacher, his ability to deliver concise, multidimensional sermons was unparalleled. In a social world of seeming chaos, Dr. Moore preached the gospel of Jesus Christ crucified and risen with the genuine hope that there was room for all humanity at the table. Preacher Moore found joy in many endeavors, from leading hundreds of revival meetings throughout the Southeast, reading his Bible, spending time with family and watching Andy Griffith. He had been at home in recent days with family and friends visiting him, which gave him immense joy. He will be deeply missed by his adoring family and the many friends that he made over the years. The family would like to extend words of gratitude to Longleaf Hospice and Personal Care, Inc. of Decatur for the exceptional care and services that were provided to Preacher Moore during his time at home. His Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; Thou hast have been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things. enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:23 The Service to Honor and Celebrate the Life of Preacher Moore will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Peachtree Road Baptist Church, 142 Old Peachtree Rd. NW, Suwanee, Georgia 30024 with Preacher Moore placed in state at the Church at 12:00 o’clock. Pastor Jay Reed, Pastor Terrell Hopkins, Pastor Tony Hutson, and Pastor Barry Goodman officiating.
