"James \u0026quot;Jim\u0026quot; D. Farmer, 76, of Damascus, VA passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN. He was a life long resident of Damascus, VA born on April 7, 1947, a son of the late Stan and Dorothy Farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lenna Jean McConnell; his father-in-law, Bud Parks; and a brother-in-law, Carl Parks. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service and was a life long farmer. In addition to farming, he enjoyed wood working and especially watching his grandkids play sports. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Janet Parks Farmer; one son, Ryan D. Farmer (Kayla) of Damascus, VA; a special niece whom he loved like a daughter, Jeanie Wilcox of Marion, VA; his three grandsons who was his pride and joy, Zane, Lucas, and Dylan Farmer; his mother-in-law, Irene Parks; four sisters-in-law, Betty Smith (Charlie), Sandy Parks (Rick), Connie Carty (Daryl), and Missy Wright (Mike); five brothers-in-law, Delmar Parks, Jimmy Parks (Linda), Buddy Parks, Kent Parks (Tina), and Chad Parks (Mary); many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Kathy Carrico and Bob Grinstead. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Garrett Funeral Home or at any other times at the Charles and Carroll Barr home place, 21944 Alvarado Road, Damascus, VA. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm Wednesday in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor David Matlock and Pastor Mike Wright officiating. Music will be under the direction of B. J. Sinclair. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Farmer Family Cemetery, 22086 Alvarado Road, Damascus, VA. Pallbearers will be Delmar Parks, Jimmy Parks, Buddy Parks, Kent Parks, Chad Parks, and Elijah Parks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Andy Wilcox, Johnny Purdue, Gene Anderson, Daryl Carty, P. G. Widener, and his special friends he worked with at the Post Office. Those who wish to attend the committal service are asked to meet at Farmer Family Cemetery by 1:45 PM Thursday.
