Walter T. Brownell, Jr. was born on December 1, 1932 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was the first of four children of Walter T. , Sr. and Johnivieve Patton Brownell. Walt graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1950, and attended Northwestern University, graduating in 1955 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was on a co-op (work study) program and accepted a job at McDonnell Douglas upon graduation, where he worked his entire career. One of his proudest accomplishments was designing the escape hatch for the first Gemini space capsule. He was presented a piece of the heat shield of the hatch encased in an acrylic shaped capsule for his work on the project. Walt enjoyed building model airplanes as a youth, which led to his love of flying control-line models for a great part of his life. Walt and his first wife, Alice, enjoyed going to local flying contests during the years of their marriage, but they soon had four children - Tom, Jim, Barbara, and Nancy - who took up the majority of their time. Sadly, Alice passed away in 1995. After his retirement in 1995, Walt became active once again in building planes and flying them in contests. He won several awards for show and for flight. He put a great deal of time, effort and talent into building his airplanes and truly enjoyed the detailing he put into the "pilots" he created to fly his planes! Walt was a member of the Lafayette Esquadrille Control Line Club and enjoyed spending time with the other members of the club. Eight years ago, Walt was diagnosed with dementia, which has since progressed to an advanced stage. Walt has always been a humble man, never one to speak about his accomplishments, but rather allowing them to speak for themselves. As such, we are unable to elaborate further about the very full and accomplished life of the wonderful man we are so fortunate and honored to call our father. He is survived by his four children, Thomas Patton (Tracy) Brownell of O'Fallon, MO, James Allen (Cathy) Brownell of Old Monroe, MO, Barbara Ann (Timothy) Burkemper of O'Fallon, MO, Nancy Lee (Hal) Brown of Wentzville, MO; brother, John Patton (Annette) Brownell; sister, Glynn DuPre'; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; He is preceded in death by his father, Walter T. Brownell, Sr. , mother, Johnivieve (Patton) Brownell, second wife, Bertha Brownell, first wife, Alice L. (Shores) Brownell, sister, Helen Spitzer, grandson, Scott Bradley Brownell. Jack O. Lee December 13, 1929 - November 22, 2023 Jack Orban Lee, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday November 22, 2023. Jack was born on December 13, 1929 in St. Louis MO to Orban A Lee and Wanda J (Church) Lee Grenlie. Being born on aFriday the 13th, he always said it was a lucky day for him. As a child he was often sick, but this never deterred him. A highlight of his childhood was getting to go to the 1944 Cardinals vs Browns World Series. He graduated from Cleveland High School where he made lifelong friends. He loved running cross country and ran in the state championship one year. Later he was an Elder in the Methodist Church where he met his future wife, Shirley. His sense of humor and persistence won her over and they were married for 67 years. He jokingly referred to her as his first wife even though she was his only one. The two were lifelong companions and shared countless adventures together. They were blessed with two children, Lori and Daryl. He was employed at Monsanto as an Electrical Draftsman for most of his career. He was a problem solver at heart and could invent a solution to most anything. His creativity made life easier for Daryl to be more independent after his accident. He was active in the Masons being a Past Worshipful Master of University Masonic Lodge and most recently a member of Crestwood Anchor Lodge. During this time, he was an active supporter of the DeMolay. Jack loved a good debate and could take either side of a subject to do so. This probably led him into his political involvement being a member of the Republican club as well as being elected as a Missouri State Representative. He made many friends from both sides of the political aisles that he kept in contact with for many years. He was an avid photographer, taking many beautiful photos during their travels. Jack, Shirley and Daryl cruised extensively before turning to road trips across the United States. He was also able to pursue his love of sailing. He purchased a sail boat, learned to sail and spent many weekends sailing with family and friends at Carlyle Lake. Jack was also blessed with two granddaughters, Christy and Amanda. He loved being a grandpa and attended all of their school functions, recitals, and sporting events. He shared his sense of humor, love of animals and traveling with his granddaughters. Jack will be remembered for his fun personality and loving spirit. He loved his family more than anything, and he will be greatly missed. Jack is preceded in death by his wife Shirley (Siefker) Lee, and parents Orban A Lee and Wanda J (Church) Grenlie.
